  1. Bosch FR 6 LDC are an OEM fitment
  2. I finally managed to remove the plug. I hope the attached photo may help other owners, as it is not obvious how to do it. I have marked up the picture. You press hard on the section enclosed in the 'red box'. The latch hinges along the yellow line. When you get it right you will feel and hear the latch releasing, you can then remove the plug. It does help to push the plug down as you press on the latch.
  3. This post may help right hand drive owners who, when following the instructions on changing the pollen filter (996 Tutorial), take off the plastic panel to find that they appear not to have a filter! The filter is on the passenger side of the car. The photos in the DIY tutorial show a left hand drive car, where the filter is also on the passenger side. Below is a pictiure of where it is. FYI the part that I replaced was 997.571.219.00, but the new part I fitted was 996.572.219.01.
  4. I may be being stupid but I cannot figure out how to remove the MAF plug. There looks to be some latches, but I can't see how to release them. Anyone done this who can help?
  5. Hi all, I am about to change the Oil Pressure Sensor(996.606.203.02)on my '04 GT3. Just a question about the procedure. Do I need to drain and/or bleed anything, or is it just a matter of unbolting the old part and bolting on the new one. Any tips gratefully received. Regards to all Mike
  6. Thanks for the responses and suggestions. I tried the key in ignition On/Off, but no result. However what did work was pressing the key remote button that opens the front lid. The alarm stopped, the front lid popped and the alarm horn chirped (correct spelling?). The battery is now on charge. Lesson learned - always read the manual but don't expect it to be totally correct, then ask the experts (Renntech) and together we get the answer. Thanks again, and perhaps this answer will help other owners with the same problem. :renntech:
  7. Due to the bad weather here in the UK, I have not used my car ('03 GT3) for a few weeks, and inevitably the battery is flat. My fault entirely. When I came to lift the front lid to attach the charger, I followed the instructions in the Drivers Manual (see attached scan), however it was not possible to stop the alarm horn sounding and neither did the lid switch work, I assume because the alarm horn had not been silenced. Can anyone advise what may be going on, and offer a solution.
  8. I have a UK spec '04 GT3, obviously right hand drive. The electric windows operate differently on each side of the car. 'One touch' operation is available on the drivers side window but not on the passenger side. This is very inconvienient becuase I frequently travel in Europe by myself and use the passenger side window to pay tolls etc. Do any of the clever car programming people here know whether it is possble to change the settings to enable 'one touch' on the passenger side window on my car. I approached my local Porsche dealer but they say it is not possible (or probably they can't be bothered).
  9. Are the add cruise instructions in the Boxster DIY section applicable to a 04 996 GT3?
  10. Today decided to change the discs on my S. Everything went resonably well until got to the point of pulling off the discs/rotors. They wouldn't budge. They appear to have rusted onto the hub plate. When I did this on my GT3 the discs easily pulled off by hand. Any thoughts, help or hints would be appreciated.
  11. Bit of a techie question about brake wear sensors (Cayenne S). I had a look at the sensors and it is connected with two wires. Does this mean it is a loop and the loop is broken by the wearing pad? If this is how they work I assume that they need replacing when the brake pad warning light comes on. Most brake wear sensors I have seen are single wire and detect by shorting to the rotor/disc. This means that if you don't want them it is possoble to tie them out of the way and no warning will show. I presume that tieing back an 'activated' Cayenne sensor will continue to show a brake pad fault. Last query. Is it possible to know which sensor has activated the warning light, without dismantling the brakes. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or knowledge Mike
  12. Hi all, Anyone know the minimum thickness advised on rotor/discs on Cayenne S '04 Thnks Mike
  13. Hi all, There is mention earlier in this thread about ABS and brake bleeding. Does this mean that the ABS on 996's causes a problem during brake bleeding, or have I interpreted this thread item incorrectly?
  14. Does anyone know the equivalent Bilstein part numbers for a 04 GT3? I belive the Porsche part numbers are Front 996 343 041 95 Rear 996 333 051 95
  15. Thanks everyone for their input. Did the oil change this morning, didn't have the small O-ring so reused the old one. Will change it next time. The most important thing to have is the oil filter wrench, the chain type general purpose ones are no good. Get either the factory tool or an equivalent. In the UK there is a part branded 'Laser' which is available thru Halfords. The part description is Oil Filter Wrench 76mm 3/8"D Cup Type with 14 flutes, cost £4.99. You need a 3/8" socket set wrench to turn it. If you only have a 1/2" socket set, get a 1/2" to 3/8" adaptor as well.
  16. Tanks for your reply Geza. However I was talking about the small O-ring, not the big one that comes with the replacement filter.
  17. In the excellent Oil and Filter instructions, in the diy section, there is mention of a small O-ring to change. I have spoken with two owners who change their own oil and they did not mention this part. Anyone know whether it essential to change this part? or is it just belt and braces. Thanks in advance, Mike
