  1. After searching and reading, including this excellent pcm2 diy post http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7068, I'm a bit confused. I have an '03 coupe with the cdr23 which means MOST but would kinda like to have navigation. Seeing as MOST complicates (ie increases the cost of) aftermarket solutions, I thought that perhaps the factory nav would be compatible with the factory MOST system and might be an acceptable compromise. After reading through the above diy, however, and its mention of retrofitting to pcm2 (analog pre-cursor to MOST?) - I'm not so sure. Am I missing something obvious and the author of the diy accomplished the very same thing and his parts list .... would be my shopping list? oh, bugger - just found this thread: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...l=pcm2+retrofit so yep - that diy is exactly what I would need
  2. Lower center of gravity, I like it. Knew you guys would have a nice, clear explanation for me. Thank you!
  3. Nick,so would it be fair to say that P sticks with the boxer because they started that way and have committed themselves to constant improvement instead of a re-examination of alternate layouts? Does the boxer configuration actually lend itself to higher hp modifications than an inline or V configuration? Hm - 5w50 for Charlotte, good to know. Thanks for the tip :)
  4. So, I've been wondering - why exactly did Porsche choose to go with boxer, flat 6 engines? I've looked around the net but so much ... well, you know, you're on the internet. I thought this the appropriate forum to look for a technical explanation as to why my 996 has a flat 6 instead of maybe an inline 6 or a V. Is there some inherent advantage to this layout? Has modern technology in other engines removed or reduced that advantage? Some time back they made that decision and have stuck with it. I'm a fan but just curious and have already tried 'search' ;) http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3551 but didn't find any good information. If nothing else, love the way it sounds but don't figure the Porsche racing heritage was destined to provide me with a fabulous sound system. krista ps - why do the lifters make that chattering noise? (the explanation given to me when I asked about the growling, chatty sound my engine makes) pps - if that was a bad explanation 'chatty', it's my poor choice of words as I'm assured that my engine is healthy
  5. I have the Ruf pedals as well. Nobody sees them but me - guess they're a guilty little pleasure :D
  6. Is that black piece 'in front of' the hood - is that the piece which you made out of abs? Or do you have an aftermarket hood?
  7. wow - that bumper looks really good, especially in that speed yellow!
  8. Keep us posted on your track events! What brand of navigation was added to the car? It looks very nice.
  9. Well, I found a deal on a set of the sport tips but they only 'almost' fit on my GHL exhaust pipes. The exhaust pipe is about the same diameter as the inner tube on the tips but the pipes are 'shaped' at the end, like my current tips, and won't just slide on to the pipes. You can see the exhaust pipe opening through the tips here: I would think that the pipe could be reshaped to fit or something. Would a muffler shop be able to do this?
  10. Anyone know about them? I saw a picture posted over on Rennlist and wondered about them. Google hasn't been much help though there were some Boxster references but nothing that would help me to track down the wheels in the picture or see what other wheels they make.
  11. Let me know if you need a place to host the pics .... I want to see the pictures :D
  12. ug. Never mind - just found this in the cool new review section.
  13. I have removed my spare tire and shed a few pounds up front. Now, there is a spear-like bolt on which the tire was mounted remaining and I would like to remove it. Are there any instructions on accessing the thing before I start pulling back carpet and who knows what to get at the thing? I would like to have some idea of what to expect or look for before diving in. thanks in advance, kristap
  14. Poursha - thanks for the tip on powerbulb. You posted exactly what I wanted for my '03. Double thanks for the part #s! kristap
  15. Having just watched an installer re-wire the spoiler switch to one in the console for me, I'm kicking myself for not having done it myself. It's really that easy. I'd recommend wiring it to the console rather than going with something that may protrude in the footwell. It seems to my limited imagination that something which could be foot-activated down there could get in the way. Hm. I dunno - maybe a large push button on the dead pedal would work though? The switch is an easy touch and I figure if the car needs the extra downforce, the spoiler has already been deployed. Though I think that it does look cooler when deployed. Please let me know if you put something together with pictures please :) krista
  16. HenryV - which bulbs did you use? That is the bulb I'm looking for. I've found the Porsche oem bulb type (2825 using this bulb resource) but haven't been able to find the Philips equivalent. The GMCPauls site has bulbs but isn't any help in tracking down the equivalent bulb either. thanks, krista
  17. I was just about to look up the ohms on the Bose speakers on the doors - thanks for saving me a trip to the search engine :) It sounds like the stereo/sound enhancements I had been contemplating are going to get pushed back down on my list of tweaks, at least until there is a serious road trip on the horizon. I really don't like the way car manufacturers are using this proprietary bose crap (my NSX had similar stereo issues) and compelling wholesale replacement. However, am glad to hear that it is possible to swap out the speakers & make a marked improvement in the sound quality. thanks! kristap
  18. I'm in the market for some speed bleeders - so I can bleed the brakes on my '02 C2 by myself without the need for a helper. Any recommendations or should I stick with the helper? thanks, kristap
  19. Thanks Bavarian for helping to clear this up for me. Can't say that I'm happy about it as I was hoping to improve the sound inside the car for my passengers to enjoy. But heck - they just add extra weight and I have been looking at the GHL exhaust .... Thanks for your help! kristap
  20. Been looking through the forums, becoming despondent about the ease of improving my audio system, and I'm not even sure which audio system I have. My car is an '03 Coupe which I thought means that it has the MOST system and judging from numerous other audio posts/questions this is consistent with the label on the front of my stereo 'CDR23'. However, the option code for my audio system is #680 'Bose "High End Sound" according to my dealers window sticker. But I thought that the MOST system was a Becker product? All that I now know for sure is that there is a CDR23 on the front of my system, there are door speaker pods, and the window sticker includes option #680. I checked the Tequipment page looking for audio options and the high performance audio option, which is the exact wording on my window sticker, says "Not compatible with the Bose®, DSP audio system or MOST Bus System." ahhhhhhhh! What does that mean? Do I have the MOST system or not and am I doomed to only 2 audio choices: turn it off or replace the whole thing? thanks & merry xmas to all! kristap
  21. There seems to be a lot of chatter lately, both here & on Rennlist, concerning alternative 996 front bumpers. I've been trying to follow as my '03 came with a front bumper in need of some bodyshop work. (grrrr.... other story). Anyway, I figure if I'm going to pay someone $300 (or whatever) to repaint my front bumper, I'll hold off a bit and look to see what other options are out there. Maybe something a little more aggressive without becoming a GT3 wanna-be. So, one member (programmatore) mentions LA Porsche as a source of Pcar parts in addition to Carnewal & Mashaw & many others.... Sorry, getting to the point now: at the LA Porsche site, 911pcar.com, is this page: In particular some attractive, to me, pictures labelled as "GT3 Type II Euro style front bumper cover". I figure it's different enough from standard GT3s to avoid any poser stigma yet nicely aggressive. But this is the only mention that I have so far been able to find of this bumper and I don't know anything about this vendor (not a supporter of renntech?). Searching for GT3 bumpers hasn't yielded anything either. Are these, in fact, properly labelled at Euro GT-3 bumpers or are they something else? thanks for your time, krista
  22. doh! Sorry 'bout that - I really did search before posting but maybe mispelled 'carpet'?
  23. Any good ideas on keeping the carpet in place? I notice that mine seems to slip around pretty easily. krista 2003 996 Coupe
  24. Funny, a friend was just telling me how awesome these guys are. Enfig for ipod - stereo interfaces. Was just about to start looking myself for a solution for my 996 when I saw your post. I'm afraid I don't know much about Porsche stereos and what inputs are available but someone else might be able to jump in & help determine if this solution will work for you. krista 2003 996 Coupe
