  1. If you have made a dilligent search and it sounds like you have, then the tires are just unavailable for whatever reason which may mean you'll probably have to replace them all with 4 of a kind of a different brand or model. Whatever you do don't mix and match tires. Its a pisser to have to buy 4 new tires...but the option of running with two tires needing replacement or two different sets of tires with two different handling characteristics isn't real good esp. with a Porsche. My advice, check every tire store in your area...you may hit one that has the two rears you need. In fact keep checking stores outside your area as well. IF you can't find Michelims like you want then I would suggest Bridgestone SO2A's...IMHO, a fantastic high perfromance tire. Good luck...
  2. Loren and Richard... Thank you both. Pulled the small dash cover which holds the switches. The connect to the interval control knob had come loose. Pushed it back on...works fine. Jim
  3. Hi Richard... Good to hear from you again...hope the taxes got filed on time!!! I'll check out the connections as well... Thx... Jim
  4. Loren MY99 C2 996 My intermittant wiper finction is inop. When stalk is moved to position 3 the wiper makes 1 complete sweep and comes to a full rest in the wiper park position. No further sweep even after adjustments with the interval control thumb wheel in eaither directions are made. Wipers stay parked. Wipers work fine in position 1 slow and position 2 fast. Any ideas? Thx... Jim
  5. When you get the leak fixed...throw an engine protection plate on there. Cheap insurance for a 100 bucks. I'm trying to convince Lee to do one as well... Jim
  6. I thought it was a cam cover leak...guess I was wrong...
  7. It might be your clock spring connector to the airbag that may have come loose. You might want to check with Loren to see if he has a schematic. Removing a steering wheel for me was a complicated affair. One thing...check to see if you hear the sound when the engine is off. While the car is in the garage move the steering wheel back and forth. If you hear then, I'd say one of the metal connects has come loose. When was the last time you had any work done on the front stut mounts. When pieces of that assembly go bad, you can hear funny sounds in the steering wheel area. I also think there is a tech bulletin on that particular problem. Take a look
  8. Dell... How much did you pay for the kit? How much for the install?
  9. I wouldn't trash it. Offer it out to someone at a reduced price maybe with no warranty...
  10. I have never been satisfied with BF Goodrich tires. I had them on a few other non-porsche cars but not the model that you speak of. I just purchased Bridgestone S2A's (N4) about a month ago and they are great. I got the price off of Tirerack's website and went down to my local Firestone Tire Center and they met the price (He said all Firestone dealers will meet Tirerack prices)...they ordered them up and I had them on the car a week later. Whichever tire you decide on -- get the added warranty protection which is about $12.00 a tire. It's cheap insurance for $250.00 tires! BTW Make sure the installer torques the wheel bolts to 96 ft pounds...watch him do it...then after about 200 miles take it back and re-torque them again.
  11. Hey Dell... That's a Litronics headlight relay for the Boxster (probably can also be used on the 996 because they have the same lights)... Jim
  12. Hi Dell... Glad you mentioned the red cap mod. It is perhaps the least expensive way to increase horsepower that not many people know about. Thx... Jim :jump:
  13. [ http://www.autopartsauthority.com/ Enter make and model year in the drop down. Jim
  14. What do you mean by 'dead full'? where on the indicator does the oil register---at the line where the upper arrow points or the 1 space above the line which the arrow points to. Does it show 'dead full' after its been driven and then re-started again after its been sitting for about 30 mins or so?
  15. I have the dreaded rattle from the sunroof. The reason for this could be that you are missing the edge guard. When this is missing the roof can hit the sliding roof frame and make some noise. Check out TSB 6028 on this site. It will give you some info. Looks like the fix is pretty quick if the edge guard is missing. Jim
  16. Never listen to an insurance adjuster. Never let them direct you or tell you what they think the best course of action is. As the owner of the car and the one who has incurred loss due to the negligence of another, you have certain rights. Depending on which state you reside in, you most certainly have the right to select whom you want to repair your car. To that end...go to you Porsche dealer and have them give you a the name of the repair shops in the area that they use...ask all the questions about the potential repair of your car of at least two Porsche delearships if you can, but most certainly one then talk to the recommended repair shops and ask for references you can call about their work on P/cars... The important thing here is that you have to be the one in charge...NEVER let the insurance company call the shots. If they give you a bad time...get a lawyer to intervene and don't settle for anything less than perfect repair work. After the repairs are done take the car back to your Porsche delearship and have them go over it...all this needs to be paid by the insurance company... Good luck...
  17. I know it is a personal choice...but what I think is most peculiar is the fact that so many p/car owners baby the heck out of their cars and I'll bet if somebody said they could protect their paint by weekly applications of Shinola, somebody out there would take them seriously and an entire cottage industry of Shinola Shiners would develop. You gotta admit, we, as a bunch of car nuts, are a peculiar breed! I wish I could remember the source of what I read some years ago when Ferry Porsche was asked by the PCA to one of their parades back east. When asked what he thought of all the beautifully maintained and restored P/cars Ferry responded that he thought it was sad that these 'beautiful' cars wern't driven. You are correct. Some have RMS failures some dont. The truth of the matter is, regardless of the care we take of these wonderful cars, they, like us fail over time, some leak, some rattle, some just die... Jim
  18. Hi Berny... Now that is interesting. I think what it means is that you are about to have another RMS replaced...or that you are parking on a hill somewhere in England where the druids used to dance... Jim
