  1. I bought mine from local porsche junkyard for $100, but I painted with black. For size, it is correct size but there are some non-OEM which does look small. Ask seller for measurement and see if it's small or right size. It should be exact 30" long.
  2. Where is convertible top drive lid microswitch? According to service manual, compartment lid microswitch should be in center of the motor. But I see no such switches. Any idea? Little confuse with locating microswitches. :help: Also I have no idea what these things are, looks like switch of some sort of.. but can't figure it out. :lightbulb:
  3. So, I don't have to take transmission out to replace the cable? Thanks Tool Pants, you rule. :king:
  4. Last week I was driving and got off from the freeway, so I decide to put top back on (SmartTop equiped) and driving 20mph as top was closing in to end position I hear weak motor sound from the back.. top indicator lights stay on then, "Bang!" I heard something broke off as top hit the windshield. What the "f***"??? Sure enough.. cable broke off (driver side) and one of the push bar ball cap for passenger side broke off. I got home and looked at my boxster service manual and looks like I have to remove driver side convertible transmission to replace broken cable. but how? service manual I got from the Amazon.Com doesn't really say how and convertible top repair section is very WEAK! Any idea? how to remove transmission and make adjustment? Anyhow, I ordered parts from Sunset imports, "Thanks again, Jeff !!!" :help: Any help will be appreciate and if anyone who want to observe or give me help/hand/beer? as I am going to repair this with my buddy. I am planning to tape entire session and put it on DVD for future reference. May be sell it as anyone who wants it ($19.99 fair enough?) :welcome:
  5. Your best bet is check with your local upholstry store, bring your parts to them have them install. But if you are willing to do it your self, I wish you very best. :clapping:
  6. You could hide all the cables under dashboard which you can pull down and hide cables.
  7. I received telephone power cable from becker fewdays ago; also I had to purchase two cigarette adapters for this modification. Basically no permanent damage to factory harness using becker cable and cigarette adapter to provide additional 12v for my XM radio and cell phone power adapter without using factory installed cigarette port. Now I don’t have to worry about battery is drain out from factory cigarette port. Turn ignition off, all others will go off like regular car. Yappy!
  8. You might want to try this. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?&...ID=1915&CID=198

  10. I don't get it.. why would any one want to install Mac mini on Boxster where there is no room for it. Specially right under steering wheel ??? It would make sense, if it was installed with GT3 console delete and install Mac mini in where center console was. But that's just my opinion. Have a fun... :D
  11. Yes, it's basically engine swap and old one goes back to Porsche (with discounted price). For rebuilding engine would cost almost same as brand new and according to Porsche and my independent repair shop guys told me Porsche is simply replacing engine at discount price due to high failure of boxster engines.. so they reduced price and simply swapping out instead of repair.
  12. Replacement parts and labor came out as $10000 plus some other minor replacements are needed, such as clutch replacement while engine and transmission is already out.. it was do it now or cost more later on.. :) After clutch and other minor replacement plus major engine replacement, total is $13000 I am gonna skip many meals from now on.. :(
  13. Car is currently on 65k and I only had it for 11 month. I am thinking about sueing Porsche for such low mileage and engine is already a problem isn't right for any consumer.
  14. Holy crap.. yeah, it looks like it.. if something happens to that.. my repair guy has be buy me new header.. lol
  15. Old engine is going back to germany, probably rebuild by porsche and resell?
  16. Back in November, my engine was making strange sound and turned out to be rod bearing failure. Entire motor had to be replace (or rebuilding would cost same as brand new motor) and when it was deliver to my service shop, I got chance to take pictures of both old and new engine before new motor was install.
  17. Here is link to past forum.. it happened to me and I took some pictures. It's basically 90 degree twist and pull... open it up and clean up grease and dust.. put it back and again.. 90 degree twist to put it back in original position... works great. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=5659&hl=
  18. For white smoke, I had my air filter change and Oil seperator replace. That's what 2 seperate dealer suggested and I took it to my Porsche repair shop replace oil seperator. I did change air filter my self and everything works fine now.
  19. Call Jeff at Sunset Imports 1-800-346-0182 or email him.. "Jeff Clark" <JeffClark@sunsetimports.com> Good Luck
  20. Cool. thanks. that did work just fine.. twist 90 degrees and pull it out.. cleaned it and work like charm. :drive: Thanks again.. and no thanks to dealer.. ripp off. :soapbox: total time of repair... 25 min.. compare to 4 hour estimated by dealer.. hell no. :clapping:
  21. Oh great.. can I do it my self?, I drop off my car to my local Torrance Porsche dealer and they want to charge me $220 for parts and installation.. WHAT!!!! it's simple switch install and $220 for it? Forget it. I will do it my self. My faith to local dealer is down to trashcan. :soapbox:
  22. Okay, I took pictures of right above brake pedal and I can only assume that little yellow thing is where as you've describe as 90 degree and twist? here are some of photos (4). let me know if I am looking at wrong item.
  23. I was driving saturday morning and guy next to me as he pull over told me I have no brake lights. What the hell? "Thanks Buddy." Luckly I haven't pulled over by any cop yet, but now I am worry if I am on the freeway what if guy behind me can't see me slowing down? Yeah, no good.. I checked fuse (b-roll, 7)and light bulbs and they are all good.. Any idea? I found article here relate to 996 section and talking about Brake Pedal Switch might need to be replace. If that is same case here, how do I do it and where to look for? Thanks everyone. :drive:
