  1. You are correct Chris - I should have checked before I posted. It only disables the internal monitoring if you lock this way.
  2. If you use the emergency locking procedure - turn the key to the lock position and back three times in succession - it should lock the car, but disable the alarm. The procedure is described in the owners manual. Having said that, if your alarm is going off with the car unlocked it's anyone's guess if this will work. Worth a try though.
  3. I was under the impression that the GPS antenna for PCM is located under the plastic cover which houses the alarm LED in the centre of the dashboard. As you may have found out, the antenna supplied with the AVIC is thicker than the PCM one, and I'm not sure it will fit under the cover. I asked the installer who fitted my AVIC to put it in the original position, but he put it on top of the dash on the passenger side near the screen. I didn't notice it for a day or two, but wasn't too unhappy about it, so assumed that was why he put it there. I can't help with the compatibility issue I'm afraid.

  5. 14 FR-7 LDU, but there are a couple of other options shown on the Beru site. http://www.beru.com/english/produkte/produ...p;action=step04 You should be able to fit them straight from the box.
  6. Play in the anti-roll bar drop links is a common fault on the 996 and 986. I have replaced all four of mine.

  10. Hi Jules This was taken from the 996 OBDII Manual for DME 5.2.2, relating to P0300-P1319 misfire fault codes. I think it would also apply to your car as it is the same version. I just checked the 986 Manual, but it doesn't have that part in it. I'll email you the info - I just thought it may be useful for determining what Segment A and B mean, which I kind of assume relate to the adaption (learning) of the flywheel position sensor - just my guess.
  11. Jules Just found this in the DME manual: 2 Read out learning progress of sensor wheel adaptation. 1. Connect Porsche System Tester 2. 2. Select vehicle type 996, DME, Actual values. 3. Select Segment A, Segment B, Learning progress of sensor wheel adaptation. When the values of segments A and B are around zero, e.g. 0.0003, adaptation is complete. The value of learning progress must then be smaller than 0.0005. If the value of learning progress remains at 1.0000, the flywheel is defective. If the values of segments A and B are also at 1.000, then adaptation has not yet been performed. In this case, perform a test drive with three deceleration phases in the speed range from 3000 to 1400 rpm. Hope it helps. Hopefully someone will be able to comment on the actual values.

  13. 996 505 311 04 G2X is the correct number (G2X=Primer Coated. A search on the PET for 996 505 111 02 shows "Part Number Unknown". It doesn't show up in the price search here either. If it were 311 02 it might be an older version.

I think your booklet is wrong, as the correct codes are: P1123: Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Area 1 (Cylinders 1 - 3) - Lean Threshold P1125: Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Area 1 (Cylinders 4 - 6) - Lean Threshold What's the mileage, and is it the original MAF? I would try a new MAF. I don't know anything about the Evo intake, but if it is an oiled type they tend to screw up MAFs if you over-oil.

  16. I had a very similar problem with my 996, which turned out to be a bad microswitch in the door lock assembly on the driver's side. The 996 only has a lock on the driver's side by the way, so I couldn't tell you what happened at the passenger door! A fault like this should flag up a fault code in the C/L control module, which would be shown in a PST2 test. There are 5 microswitches in the door lock, and two in the handle. I would say that the handle switches are working OK from what you have described, which leaves the door lock switches. If you have access to a PST2 I would get it checked out first. I think you might want to look at the system from a different angle. The key operates the lock signal switch - the alarm control module powers the motor to lock the door - the locking mechamism triggers the 'locked' microswitch - the control module takes power off the motor. If the control module doesn't get the 'locked' signal it thinks something is wrong, so unlocks. The emergency locking signal to the control module is three pulses from the lock signal switch. This will power the lock motor regardless of the other input signals.
  17. I always wave - some idiot will probably take a flash as a sign they can pull out (common over here in the UK). When I had my 993 almost all 993 & earlier cars waved back, but 996 owners mostly didn't. Now I find that quite a few 996 (and earlier) owners wave back, but seldom 987 or 997 drivers. I guess that tells you that now that 996s are more affordable, they are being bought by more Porsche enthisiasts. That's my take on it anyway. Get a wave from a Cayenne? Forget it.
  18. Denis - You could get the surround for PCM which has a double-DIN opening and would be suitable for the AVIC. That would save you having to make a filler trim for the top like I did. Unless you really want cupholders too.......
  19. What Joe didn't tell you is that his car is UK spec, so most likely does not have the telephone plug (unless he has a phone connected).

  22. I thought it was as a result of me upgrading to IE7 - that's when it started happening to me.
  23. I had P1123 and P1125 for a long time on my car (UK Spec, so no CEL). I tried the remedies in the manual: fuel pressure, EVAP canister purge valve, etc, but what fixed it was a new MAF.
