  1. Radio Shack sells a adjustable DB meter around #35 bucks as I remember.
  2. I used a standard L type allen with a qwick shock on it with a hammer and it finally broke loose. Remember righty tighty lefty loosy! Easy to forget when under car.
  3. yeah, I thought of putting one or both of the cars on a lft. But that seems to be too much of a hassle: You pull it on the lift just right then you get out and press a button and it goes up, then you very carefully put another car right under it. The beauty of the attic idea is that you have one big lift that you can just pull onto and you raise it up. Then you drive it further into the attic wherever you want to park it. I've thought about it and I realize that it wouldn't work. It would probably be easier and less expensive to dig a basement under my house and use a lift to get cars into the basement. Anybody ever heard of digging a basement under a house that is already built? (Ha!) Anything is possible with enough money, but maybe just extending a covered area the 3rd car would be exposed but covered.

Well here I go again "new seal" I luckily still have my engine out but just bolted up my clutch and tranny, the last updated seal I think I put in 6 months ago was for a 2002 996 which was newer then the version I originally had for the 3.4. I inspected the new seal going in and I did think that it did not have enough elasticity (mating lip) to offset any crankshaft or case half issues that some have speculated. What are they doing here adding a bandade or do they feel the seal is the problem?

  6. I can not find these parts in my manual are! One looks like a filter and the other one just upstream looks like a check valve?

I agree with 1999Porsche911 on the oil, I'm parcial to fossil oil Castrol 20-50 here in Arizona where the climate is extreme and have used in my BMW and others however, in my Range Rover 20-50 was causing my lifters to be noisey on startup, so switched to 10-30 and it solved the problem. Personelly I opt for heavier oil in higher temp climates for the protection and a quiter sounding engine. My knowldge is limited with the synthetic oils, but would think the principle would be the same.

No, my system is being built from scratch (for the 3.4) with some improvements like different diverter valve then Bosch, fans (on timer)on the front aftercooler radiator (gets HOT!! here in phoenix), S Vs SC trim charger still thinking on that one etc. Evidently the gear ratio on the SC trim vortech spins up alittle faster then the S trims do, some have suffered lagging at 5000-5500 RPM's todd says that it's the vario cam but still not convinced more research is needed. Have you noticed the lag in yours? Again thanks for your feedback.

I apologize for my mislabeling of the MAF/Throttlebody and taking the time on the drawing, so there are (2) connections made to the inlet side of the SC (1) from the Crank vent and (2) from the bybass valve as in the picture. Also couple other Q's 1. Oil for the SC is picked up from leftside eng or the rightside at the oil pressure switch. Note pictures. 2. Fuel injectors size eludes me, some say they are they 38# some say #42 could you clarify.
  11. Thanks - 1999Porsche911, having trouble posting a reply to the 6spd forum. So is the crankcase vent is tee-d going to the MAF to the inlet? And the DIV is vented to the inlet also like in picture? Any pics helpful!
  12. If anyone can correct me please do, slight confusion! 1. I was wondering why EVO SC kits plumb the BOV from the high side after the intecooler back to the high side before the intercooler? 2. They also run a bypass line going from after the MAF back to the intake side of the SC. My understanding is that the BOV should be routed back to the intake side (low pressure) of the SC and not sure why they run the other line (Vaccum maybe)?. Please correct me on the plumbing.

My engine 996 3.4 and does not have cats, pipes and mufflers and am having trouble making up my mind, need feedback, here is a picture of the system from hong kong with everything in picture except the tips, $1750 shipped. They use resonators not catalytic converters (cats) so this system would not pass emissions (or would they?) but, I can have aftermarket Cats installed instead for $500 here in phx from GHL (including cats). Second: There is a set of german stock porsche cats and mufflers forsale I can buy for around $800 They would sound boring (to quite) but they have the cat pipes and I could by new mufflers GHL for them but that is around $1000. One of my questions is I do have the stock exhaust headers on the engine and they look well made and efficient, is there much to gain from aftermarket headers? Two - I do have problems with quality from china but they do make them for there TT race version and look nice also , anyone needs a pictures of them let me know. Price difference: China=$2350 (with mods) ghl/german $1800 (missing headers) thanx
  14. Is it leaking from the Crankshaft halves or INS? The crankshaft are new type also. You would have to get the number from them to compare. The new bolts I installed for the INS (Intermediate shaft seal) are: #900-385-275-09 INS Housing. I have just removed them on mine (2001) and don't understand why there changing the bolts since the seal is what prevents the oil from getting to the bolts. If it's leaking from the INS make sure that you are using the new housing with the new sealing ring (orange color). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Whoops! My mistake I looked closer and the INS bolts do need to be sealed.

Thanks for the images - my engine is a 2001 and flywheel is off, I do have the shop manual and I did'nt see any adjustments for the protruding screw (what is it's purpose) on the housing just the torque of the lock nut during assembly so this has got me confused. They note these tools also, however I can see where some ingenuity and a common screwdriver and wrench will work on just the housing. My manual calls for TDC and the loosing of the cam chains etc. However I had heard that simply positioning the eng on TDC #1 Cyl is all that was required to remove the INS housing which the seal is on any truth to this?
  19. I am looking for the IMS new housing number and seal number along with any info on removing and installing the INS.
  20. Hoping someone can help me here? 1. I am replacing the intermediate shaft seal on my 2001 3.4 996 and the manual shows loosing the lock nut, but was wondering if just the 3 bolts can be removed without having to do that, since not I'm sure what the proper adjustment is to reinstall using the locknut. 2. The RMS seems ok-59,000 miles, but am replacing since I'm in there and am wondering if the new RMS maybe installed into the same seal groove, at the present the seal is still in and looks to be slightly in 1/16 in from flush. Is a setting tool nessecary? Any help appreciated
