  1. Here's the thing, the 3.4 boxter s is only 0.3 slower to 60 mph than a 997 cabrio. Is it getting to the stage when unless you really must have a 911 or you need a car with rear seats a Boxster or Cayman is a better bet?
  2. Just been back to my opc and it was a coding problem. Had the hood control unit replaced and they have to programme the unit to tell it what year the car it is fitted to is. I would say that the problems with my car all started when my opc decided to re-code my car whilst in for a service. I would strongly advise anyone taking their car for service to ask the dealer not to mess about with the coding on the car.
  3. Sounds like a problem with the hood control unit. I had a similar problem, took my car in for a service and the Porsche dealer decided to re-code the car as when you opened the door the mileage etc didn't come on, not that I asked them to. After that the hood would only raise and lower on the remote. They said the hood control unit was faulty but denied they messed it up when they re-coded the car, they blamed the smart top I had fitted which frankly I don't believe. I would start with replacing the hood control unit, its the one behind the rear seats that the smart top plugs into. After they replaced the unit the hood would only raise and lower on the button with the handbrake on, not something it used to do, however they have re-coded the car today and now everything is fine. Haven't re-fitted my smart top yet but can't see why this should be a problem after all even when the hood was only working on the remote all the smart top features where fine. Incidentally, Porsche used to do 2 different hood control units, one for 02 and before cars and one for 03 onwards cars. They now only do one version and when fitted the car has to be coded to tell it what year car it is on so it has the right functions for the car of that year. Hope you might find this helpful.
  4. Spoke to my Porsche dealer this morning and they have a simliar car to mine there and it does the roof in motion. They are liasing with the Porsche technical bods. Apparently there used to be two roof control units with different part numbers, however now there is only one. Will let you know what happens.
  5. Can anyone help me, I have a 996 Cabrio Manufactured in April 2003. I have recently had the hood control unit replaced by my Porsche dealer and the car recoded. Can anyone tell me if you need to have the handbrake on to operate the hood in your cars of a simliar year. I know this might sound strange but I had a smart top fitted before and I cannot actually recall how the roof worked without the smart top. The issue is that the handbook of the car makes no mention of the handbrake having to be on and also says the hood can be lowered at upto 25mph and I am therefore unsure if my dealer as either put the wrong roof control unit on or programmed it with the wrong software. Thanks.
  6. Hi there, Can anyone help me with instructions on how to remove the front bumper on a face lift 996? Thanks.
  7. Did mine over the weekend using double sided tape which seem fine. Cut the tape into strips and put it on so that when you put the ring on the gauge it sticks to the outside edge of the gauge. The trick here is to start from the outside gauges and work in. Hope thats helpful.
  8. Does anyone think it would be a benefit to fit a strut brace to my 996 Cabrio?
  9. I would add to the heads up for the fabspeed mufflers. I have them on my 996 Cabrio and they sound great. When you just cruising on a light throttle there pretty quite but as soon as you nail it the sound is fantastic and I'm sure the throttle response its better. Check out www.fabspeed.com for the video clips, don't listen to the one of the 997 with the bypass pipes, it sounds far to nice!
  10. Have any of your guys got any pictures of the rain sensors installed. I had a factory fit one on my BMW and it was great, however the ones I've seen for the 996 seem big ugly bits of plastci.
  11. Very bright, hope I don't get rear ended by someone whose be blinded by it. Think the previous owner dropped it but apparently there very fragile.
  12. Just fitted an LED high level brake light to my 996 Cabrio and the stock on seems to have gone into self destruct mode also not helped by the previous owner to me.
  13. I have an there £ 350.00 plus Vat to buy so you can understand why I am trying to source a used or aftermarket copy.
  14. Try calling your Porsche Centre, PARTS Department then request sat nav discs. They will probably have them in stock. :o Or PCGB 01189303911 <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  15. What the hell, if its still under warranty I'd get it done. Porsche can afford it My OPC has just discovered that my RMC is leaking during a recent service. Its done 25000 miles and is only 22 months old. Will also get the clutch changed if it shows sign of wear as they'll have the gearbox out to do the RMS any.
  16. If you just get a click when you try to start it I recon its probably the starter motor. Whats happening is that the solanoid that fires the starter shaft out to engage to through the engine over is not working properly.
  17. Anyone out there in the UK got the latest version of the sat nav discs for the PCM2. You'll know if there the latest ones as they will have the date 08.2004 on.
  18. Just to say how blinding your car looks in yellow. The only thing that worry's me about buying a yellow car here in the UK is trying to get rid of it if I ever wanted to sell it.
  19. Anybody out there used this product and if so what did you think. How much did you have to put in?
