  1. I have a couple of one button key heads for a 996. Had to replace mine when the electronics went out. Let me know if you still need one.
  2. Your right the FCC can not regulate light beams. The regular street cop can not enforce federal statutes anyway. The vehicle code is what makes the jammers illegal in California and is enforceable by any street cop. "28150(a) No vehicle shall be equipped with any device that is designed for, or is capable of, jamming, scrambling, neutralizing, disabling, or otherwise interfering with radar, laser, or any other electronic device used by a law enforcement agency to measure the speed of moving objects." They added the section in 1999 as a reaction to all the devices being sold. Just like they added the section for signal light pre-emption devices after they realized they were being sold to the public. ;)
  3. The only use a laser detector is, is to tell you that you just got a ticket. You may want to be aware that there are also laser jammers for sale. Pricey, legal and effetive. I would only agree with some of that statement. Laser detectors will most likely tell you to start slowing down so you can stop when the red light comes on. They are pricey, effective, but illegal. At least in California, all devices for jamming electronic speed enforcement devices are illegal. I think a show of hands might show a very effective radar detector. How many users have received a ticket while using a Valentine? Blade is right, CHP currently uses radar. All of their cars and motorcycles are equipped with moving radar. The problems for the cop comes to getting a target when the freeway is 8 lanes wide (both directions, it doesn't show the direction of the target), the beam covers all the lanes, and there is no target that is clearly pulling away from the group. That is why most of them limit the use to smaller highways (such as 395). I think a good radar detector (such as the Valentine) and keeping your view well ahead of you looking for the other team will keep you from meeting the wrong end of the pen. (Most radar violations are caught at less than 500 feet)
  4. I had the same problem about a year ago. Turned out to be my battery was dying slowly. The frequency of the alarm going off increased as the battery got older and the voltage fluctuated more often. Figured it out when the starter labored to turn the engine over after driving several miles and tried to restart. Replaced the battery and have not had a problem since. :clapping:
  5. Before you go smashing windows (pricey!!), there is a way to get into the window. Use a wooden wedge to pry the window far enough away from the seal. You take the flat part of the wedge against the seal and slowly (carefully) push it further in to create about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch of clearance to get a tool into the car. The wedges are also available in plastic from slim jim manufacturers. If you can find a dealer or tow service that has the air bag, they work best. It is a small flat bag with an air bulb connected to it. You slide the bag between the glass and the seal then use the bulb to blow it up causing an opening. Then you use a long sturdy bendable piece of metal rod with tape on the end to protect your interior. You can get a long one to try to tap the lock/unlock button on the dash or just pull back on the interior door handle. I still can't figure out why your key does not work in the keyhole
  6. If you can not say how fast you were going, how can you say you were in fact not speeding? I am not attacking you, but instead giving you the view the commissioner will have. I see cases like this every week, and about 98% of the defendants walk out of court losing. Jim is correct, do not say anything other than necessary when pulled over. Even the most innocent statemnets can be used against you from a traffic stop. The statement from the trooper about first estimating your speed might be related to law. I don't know about TX but in CA the electronic device (IE radar or laser) is only used to confirm the initial estimation. The electronic evidence can not hold without a valid estimation.
  7. I would agree with Richard. You have a chance of the Officer not showing if he forgets or has another appointment, but other than that you will more likely just waste your day going to court. Don't waste your time or money on all of the online "beat a ticket" defenses. They are all covered in a properly issued citation.
  8. If you have not had the A/C serviced in a while, you might need to evacuate it and put a fresh charge of freon. R134's heat transfer abilities are affected by moisture in the system. The service should take care of your problems.
  9. If you haven't paid the dealer yet, I would check to see if you have independent starter and alternator rebuilders in your area. We have them here in the US and they can usually get parts for teh alternators that are not available to the consumer. They will only change the parts you need and charge you accordingly. They will not remove the item from your car though. Napa online lists the rebuilt Bosch alternator for your car at $404US... Just food for thought
