  1. Hi Carmos, many thanks for the info. So it is 246 hp at the wheels vs 225 hp when the car is standard? I am in the UK actually so would need to find someone willing to do the same in London (or near). Is the noise much changed now?
  2. posted the above on boxta.net but wanted more advice... What will it change: sound? performance? will i get a light on the dashboard? Has someone done it???
  3. yes pls.... (+ let us know on the noise too => boomy or ok?)
  4. did you update only the headers? Or the while exhaust system: headers + cats + sport exhaust? What is the result? Sound? Performance?
  5. do Tubi exhausts also sound <great> on non-ferrari cars? A f355 tubi equiped is (to me) the best sounding car in the world. If i have the prospect of having my boxster s sounding even slightly like this, i am ready to sign up for one RIGHT NOW!
  6. never actually heard anyone who tried DMS on a boxster s... if anyone has, i' d be curious to hear about it.
  7. hi jinijazz, yes i thought it was the name of the option for the inside (sport seats with back painted in silver + various bits in the same color inside). and special material on the dash board... i am now looking to give my 'baby' a slightly deeper sound (sport exhaust)... :) and drive it a bit more: only 8k miles since new feb 2002........
  8. sport design? wheels yes and even the inside has the sport design option.
  9. i posted the picture under another thread but thought maybe i may show it off a bit more........ you guys like it?
  10. Hi Clubhead, Yes i have seen your set-up + pictures of your exhausts etc... Is your exhaust ref. 94330S ?? Dansk have lots of different models and i am not sure they all have the same sound / perf?? Is the 'sport' noise bearable at cruising speeds? I hear that many 'sport' set-up are a real pain in the arse at cruising speed.... Also i am very surprised to hear that you do not like the sound that much... it seems almost impossible to me as when i hear a 996 with sport exhaust i cannot see this engine ever sounding bad!!! The only car i can see sounding better is a modena 360 with tubistyle exhaust!!! Maybe i am wrong... The other thing i am a bit warry of is to find a proper guy to work on the car. i do not want porsche dealers to do it as they would charge more than the parts! The guy i may use to do the work is an independant specialist in London... he charges £58 oer hour and says he needs less than an hour to fit just the rear box... Does not look like rocket science to do this 'exhaust' jobby + the guy seems to know what he is talking about... he is curently working on my vespa... if he does well, i may give him the porsche! Eric. ps: that porsche mechanic mentioned that Dansk sell the dashboard exhaust switch for the boxster.... do you know anything about that?? (appart from the factory OE equipement...)
  11. Hi Clubhead, i must say i follow your posts with great attention as i have been looking for a while now to follow the same route as you: 1/ sport exhaust, and maybe sports cat and headers. 2/ Then induction and chip (or remapping)...maybe.. I know i will get the sport exhaust from Dansk: the sport exhaust which retains the OE looks! (see www.jpgroup.dk and look for reference 94330S). Now i am not too sure about the headers and sport cat as they triple the price!!! A porsche mechanic (Tower Bridge London) told me today that the standard headers have allready a pretty good flow. So i might as well keep them (usd 1000 saved...). But the same guy mentioned that the OE cats are quite restrictive so sportcats could be on my list. I am a bit adventurous as i have never heard a boxster S with sport exhaust but having recently heard a F360 modena at the petrol station with tubistyle exhaust... i know i want my car to sound better and louder! Regarding your issue, i' d advise you to get your money back on the chip. Then either try another make (say superchips??). Or try a specialist in porsche electronics. In the UK, DMS are meant to make miracles... at least they do on 996 turbos (see reports on EVO mag). Another alternative would be to have a proper remapping done with the car on a dyno as opposed to a 'pret-a-porter' chip. So you would have a mapping tailormade to your car and its settings.... My input may not be of a great use to you as i am sure you may have explored that route anyway. But please, PLEASE, keep us posted! Best regards, Eric. ps: i am off to try to post some pictures of my car now (if i can find how to do it!).
  12. NoElise, BE CAREFULL TO WHAT THE audio guys tell you! You can have BOTH the use of the Dension adaptor (ipod) + still have the use of the CD changer CDC3... But for this you will need some competent guys tp work on your car: They must fit a switch that will be located in a discret place inside the car (so you do not impair the original car appearance for resell) which will enable you to use either the cd player or the ipod.. Insist clearly on this as it is possible to do it... although some audio car guys will try to convince you of the opposite. Regards, Eric.
  13. Orient Express.... thanks so much i did not know about the Dension. I have booked myself to the shop for saturday. Only though point is London price fully fitted to the boxster is: GBP 250 + vat means GBP 293.75 in total. Means USD 566.5 at current exchange rate... ouch!
  14. Orient Express, i have a feb 2002 boxster s with PCM 1...(not sure it is made by becker).... can i do something with this set-up?? (not too keen on using a dummy casette thingy)
  15. if yes how do you connect it to the stereo? (i do not like wires).. *Itrip? *XtremeMac AirPlay FM Transmitter? Apparently there are lots of contradictory reviews on these depending on the place where you live, the car you have etc... Would be curious to hear of any experience in the boxster.
  16. adsach => thanks! this is a bit more reassuring. percymon => i' d still be surprised if you' d have a rms failure on your car, and then 3 weeks later another one and Porsche would wash their hands from it! UK or not UK, insurance or not insurance. I think i remember a guy on pistonheads being in this situation (out of warranty + rms failing again): initially he was not covered, but after writing a letter to Porsche UK, they covered the whole issue.... PS: the insurance sold in the UK is a 'European Warranty' ... correct?..... so how is it that it costs GBP 750in the UK and EUR 850 in Europe (eg: GBP 550).... same product... 40% more expensive in the UK.... (ps: i got items on my car fixed under European warranty in London)....
  17. thanks LVDell.... i' d really like to be reassured by your words... But my car is a fairly late model (feb02) and had a very low mileage (11t km which is about 7t miles) when it happened. It is a car that was always very well looked after.... garaged etc...
  18. All, The OPC had RMS replaced last year (June 2004) on my car UNDER WARRANTY. My car is a Boxster S feb 2002 and is now OUT of warranty. I know that RMS is quite a common issue and i am wondering: Is the work carried over by Porsche 1 year guaranted anyway?? ie: i currently do not have official porsche warranty anymore, but if RMS fails again this year, would porsche repear that free of charge?? I ask this as i am planing to do an oil service this year but am wondering if i should do it prior june 2005, so that if they discover RMS failure then, they cannot argue i have to pay for it....... Any opinion greatly appreciated... Eric. ps: my car had 11000 km at last year service and will have approx 13000km this year and..... YES... i am becoming a 'RMS paranoiac' too!
  19. My own 2 pence supporting the above informations: temperature in the engine bay is a crucial point!! i used to have lotus elises (now boxster s) and many of the guys in clubs upgrade to cone airfilters such K&N 57i similar to the EVO item mentioned here. The big problem is that the cone alone does not work! It actually decreases the performance of the car a lot! (sometime by as much as 10%). Why? Because the cone needs to be enclosed in a cold airbox linked to the side of the car to suck up fresh air! Then the fact that the cone is less restrictive starts to make sense... All in all, many Lotus Elise owners reversed to orginal set-up as it was finaly much better for the performance and less damaging for the engine... I personaly tried several options and found that 'closed cones' linked to the side air intake of the car were the best option (makes such as B&M worked a treat.
  20. i am a bit surprised no one can comment on Cargraphic? i was under the impression that they were the likes of Ruf, Gemballa etc...? They seem serious too and their parts well enginereed? Not even a comment on their exhausts??
  21. Does anyone have any experience on the Cargraphic upgrade for the boxster S? http://www.cargraphic.co.uk/tuning/porsche...ingporsche.html 986S Power kit 986S 3.2l consists of: BMC sport air filter BMC14001 Sport backbox set CARP86SETR Sport catalyst CARP86SKAT Extractor manifold set CARP86SFK DME control unit exchange MOTP86S / MOTP86SUSA 201kW (273hp) 6250rpm 330Nm 4700rpm i find it quite interesting but would not like to loose too much in drivability etc... Maybe the exaust alone?
  22. Hello everyone, I am new to this board and hear lots of good things... so thought i would pay a visit. I need a clarification once in for all on a subject that i have been asking around for but always had vague answers. Here are a few points: *my boxster S is a feb 2002 LHD soft rear window (i am french but leave in London uk). *i would like to fit a Factory sport exhaust. *do not like the sport Factory exhaust normally aimed at my car: the one with the bypass pipes appearing underneath the car' s rear spoiler. *So i would like to fit the 2003 - 04 Factory exhaust. Here are my questions: 1/ What are the exact part numbers for this 2003 - 04 Factory exhaust? (the east London dealer claims he can' t find it in his list). 2/ will it fit my 2002 car? 3/ Is this set-up approved by the factory (will my car still be under warranty). 4/ Does it come with the switch on the dash board? 5/ Does that switch work on a 2002 car? 6/ How much should i expect to spend on such an upgrade? 7/ Will i approach the 'bark' sound of a 996 sport exhaust. I am really looking for clear answer to these questions so i can go back to my OPC (and eventually show him how incompetent he is! :) ) If i can do it, i will run there to get it done, i am craving for 'music'!! :) Best regards, Eric.
