  1. I just used Shawn's procedure to deal with foam bits from the A/C vents on my '99 996 C2. I covered the door with felt, easily sourced from a fabric store, and spray adhesive. I covered both sides of the door, then trimmed the double thickness of felt about ¼ inch +/- bigger than the door. I reassembled the door and tested it for fit before putting everything else back together and it seemed to operate OK without jamming. Looking through my junk I found a plastic cap that had once covered an inlet fitting on something new, perhaps a fuel pump or A/C compressor, that fit perfectly over the top bushing carrier that was ground off. (just had to slice down with my dermal between the round carrier molding and the heater core molding). I also note that when I separated the link arm from the servo, the link arm with bushing attached literally fell out. Perhaps someone has had it apart before.
  2. My 1999 996 C2 (69k miles) has developed an Idle issue. When I let up on the accelerator to shift or stop for a light (AC on), the RPM drops to 400-600 RPMs before stabilizing at the normal 950 RPM or so. The engine may even stall. Any ideas what might be causing this and how to repair? Thanks for any help.
  3. My car is a ‘99 996 C2, with 58k miles (my first 911, previously a 924 guy) (daily driver only). I want to do the 60k service on my car myself to get to know my car. I love to work on my cars but always follow procedures in shop manuals so I have downloaded about 8k pages of a shop manual from somewhere in Europe (so I have to convert some things from metric, I’m in the US) Can anyone help with these questions? I have the procedure to drain and refill the coolant. My owner’s manual says it is “permanent” but I don’t have 100% of the maintenance history and I think 11 years is long enough. I can get Porsche coolant from AutoHausAz.com for $30 per gallon w/free shipping. Is there a brand of coolant available locally that is equivalent and maybe doesn’t have extra cost of “Porsche” on the label? My Porsche PET shows a lot of hoses in the cooling system. Normally I would change 11 year old hoses but since there are so many, I am going to inspect first. Any advice on hoses that may be more problematic? Does anyone have the procedure to R & R the spark plugs? I haven’t found the procedure in my PDF Manual other than torque values. Disregard some of this paragraph as I found some info on this forum :) I see on this forum that it is easier to get to the plugs through the wheel wells. I plan to get the Bosch type OE plugs from AutoHausAz unless anyone has a better idea. Any advice on the Spark Plug Socket Connector? Reuse, replace, or replace only as necessary? The limited maintenance record I do have shows a dealer did a Major & Emission Control Maintenance at 30K miles in 2004 so I am assuming that is the last time the spark plugs were out. Are the Socket Connectors part of the coil? Why is anti-seize not recommended on the plugs? I will also replace the Serpentine Belt, fuel & air filters, flush the brake fluid, and change the transmission oil. I will also be doing a lot of inspecting under the car. Any other suggestions or things to look for? Has anyone had any experience with a PC based OBDII scan tool, by Durametric Diagnostic Tool for Porsche (1996 - present), Enthusiast Package available form pelicanparts.com? Is it worth the almost $300 cost? Thanks for any advice!
  4. There should be a cable under the right front wheel well. You have to remove the plastic liner so you might need to jack it up to remove a few screws. Their is also a cable to open the rear lid behind the left tail light ... (if you can get it out with the lid closed)
  5. Can you share the names of the two products available locally please? Do you have a favorite brand of anti-freeze? I'm getting ready to do a 60k service myself on my '99 996 C2 including all fluids. My car is daily driver in So Florida only. Thanks for any advice.
