  1. But mine is special ;) my mom told me so. So there! Operating word is "recall", and I am way past 40 and can't recall what I had for breakfast. You guys are, of course, right. I think, I recall flipping it down to get better visibility, but not needed to open/close.
  2. Correct, exhaust from the manifold to the tips? Just mufflers? Looking for different sound? You can spend thousands for a full exhaust, down to $200 for a welded bypass pipe to the stock mufflers.
  3. yes, but you have to flip it down I recall.
  4. My 99 Tip was great, but being a cabrio and since I was going to the track so much, I was affraid of the hammering of the Tip on track as a future problem, my local dealer agreed so I changed to a 6 speed. But the Tip was great in traffic, and if I wanted to be frisky, downshifting with the hands on the wheel was great.
  5. IMO, I would stick with the Porsche dealer even though it may not be PCNA warranty. But I have a good rapport with my local dealer service department, and trust that if they sell the warranty they won't try to screw you later. I had bad experiences with aftermarket ones. And I do think a Porsche will benefit from the extended warranty, one small hiccup and the warranty cost will seem like no big deal. Unlike our Honda minivan, that extended warranty is as useful as a wings on a pig, succer doesn't break no matter how hard the wife and kids try!!
  6. Check this out, wondering if it can built and be marketable. http://www.google.com/patents?id=lMF-AAAAE...and+%22#PPA2,M1
  7. Found it, the part number and instruction for the switch on the hand brake. Do this first as it is simple and cheap. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...emergency+brake
  8. I had Warranties4wheels too in my older '99. Good luck when it comes time to use it. They are brokers who will sell the warranty to a third party. I would not recommend.
  9. Agree with Chuck, my last Sears jack lasted 10 months before leaking. By the time I got around to checking warranty it was past the 12 month period and I was SOL. My previous Sears jack lasted 10 years, made in the US and I had it since 1995. I have a Costco job now, inexpensive and works like a charm. But I am intrigued by the design, if it does work, would solve the potential problem of lifting the rear of the car via the engine. Which can cause failure of the engine mounts. If I understand it right, the jack stands are incorporated into the jack, and the jack actually lifts the stand extension. Then you can lock the jack stand in place, remove the jack, and move to the next corner. Not a bad idea, wish I had thought of it.
  10. If you pull on the emergency brake and the emergency brake light does not light up on the dash, you may have a faulty switch to start. They do go bad due to corrossion and it is a cheap part at the dealer. That would be the first thing to do. Try a search here for "emergency hand brake" or a combinations of those words and it will show up with pictures on how to do it, easy job.
  11. I would suggest you take it to a dealer and ask for a diagnostic on it. Since you whacked the car, chances are the bracket that holds the motor is broken. If that is the case, will be about $400 (I had the same issue) and your description is similar symptoms. But you can also try to disconnect the battery for 10 mins and reconnect it, make sure you know your radio code. Does the emergency brake light stay on when you actuate the top?
  12. Didn't know that. Pete, you have a source in the US for them? Google just came up with European or Asian sites. I have only seen the "red box" which are the cheap ones. I would still keep a set on my tool bin that I take to the track, in case I need to swap a quick set to drive home with. I am tryin BHP front ones next weekend at CMP. Have not seen nor heard a lot about them on the forums.
  13. There is a terminal with a plastic cover and a "+" on it. Connect the positive on that and the negative to a grounded body part. Do you have the owners manual? It is all in there. If you don't, download it from the "quick menu" above, it is there with the location.
  14. Last time that happened to me on my 99, it was out of sequence locks. I cured it by using the key on the door, and lock and unlock twice to bring all back to normal. Since your battery is out, can you open the engine lid? If so, jump the car with a battery from the contact there (keep the battery connected), and unlock with the key on the door. Should be fine after that
  15. Those prices seem high to me. Check out Pelican Parts for Mintex, I think they are $37 and $47 per set, rear and fronts. I always keep a fresh set and take to the track as spares since they are so cheap. If you use on the street, they are fine, on track they will last you one day or about 250 miles or hard driving. Ask me how I know..... :drive: www.pelicanparts.com
  16. Go to www.youtube.com , and type in "Porsche sound" in the search bar, you will get quite a few and you can listen to see if any of them is to your liking.
  17. Has anyone done a DIY on a clutch replacement? 3.8 hours doesn't sound like a difficult job. I could not find anything in our site, and tried Google search. The only article was at Pelican parts, for an older 911. Thanks Izzy
  18. They have to charge more if their insurance droped them for their antics... Sorry, cheap shot
  19. Use the Search function, gentlemen, you will find all you need in the DIY or other sections. This is the convertible while moving bit: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...ertible++moving
  20. That is an interesting hole. If you where in Miami, would be a logical round ricochet from a drive-by.
  21. Caguy, forgot the cold air intake. Probably your best bet is to do a search for "mod" in the 996 forum. That way you can see more than one person's opinion. Also may see some pics of what the mods look like and how difficult to do. The best part is that this cars are almost put together like a Mr. Potato Head, so it is not too hard to change them. Have fun driving.
  22. My opinion, I like this order: 1. Mufflers - anything but OEM standard (PSE, GHL, BB, Fabspeeds, etc) 2. V1 hardwire (can't live without the arrows) 3. Speed wire sensor cut off for Cabrios (to operate the top while moving) 4. Remote extension (big convinience) 4.5 Get the clear side markers (cheap and easy) 5. Spacers, 17mm rear and 7mm fronts ("wider is better", and looks a lot better) 6. Eibach Springs (or coil overs if you want to spend more) 7. Red calipers (bling factor) And get some Rejex, I have tracked and power washed the car, plus regular washes. That stuff is STILL on the car. Anything else would be history by now.
  23. Before, I would try something pretty inexpensive, change the fluid (75W90 Mobil 1) on the transmission. There is a DIY in this site, it is very easy to do and can make a big difference on shifting. I change mine yearly as I run on tracks a bit.
  24. http://industryfigure.com/berkeley/Porsche...s/valentine.htm http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...mp;hl=valentine Easy to do, pay nothing. The V1 comes from factory with all you need
