  1. Yes. Just that Pelican part called it differently.
  2. Hi, I am driving a 1999 C4 Conv. Recently read a solution from the " Difficult to start " forum about resolving the issue by replacing trhe purge valve from the engine bay. I've done some resarch online but still not 100% . The description should be " Regeneration Valve from Throttle Body for Fuel Vapor System ". The one located above the alternator according to the forum. Part numbers that I found and uncertain are: 996 110 129 52 M100 ? 996 110 129 06 M100 ? 996 110 129 05 M100 ? thanks in advance, Simon
  3. I have similar problem. Spoiler light is on at all time. Whenever it goes up or down, it makes the " click, click ..." sound until 3 min or so. I suspect that it was the limit switch sensor problem, but not sure where it is and part number? Do I have to buy the whole harness? OR just replace the switches? thanks in advance, Simon
  4. Just wonder if the P/N is 996 110 129 52 M100?
  5. Same problem here. Mine sharing the part number?
  6. There are only 2 nuts holding the cylinders. You can gain access from the top or by removing the side panels inside the car. Just make sure all the hydraulic hoses connects to where they belongs or ... . You will need a hexagon key to unscrew the oil reservior in order to fill up the oil. Very little room there.
  7. This is harder than replacing the Hydraulic cylinder. I would suggest to remove the door panel first before doing any purchase. Here is a link at ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-911-Carrera-996-Boxster-986-Door-Lock-Cylinder-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aPorscheQQitemZ250687244727QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories You have to remove the inner door panel first. Steps includes removing several screws that hold the handle, pile out the a few plastic one that goes around the door. Then, disconnect the door cable and side airbag connector. Once you take the panel off, you can get reach to 2 nuts that hold the door handles. You will then be able to judge why the door mechism is working or not. In my case, I turn the key, but the lever was not moving. Removed the 2 nuts and take the door lock assembly out. The picture was after disassembling the door lock. It took me about 5-6 hours to do that, on and off. If I do that again, my guess would be about 2hours max.
  8. Just follow the same procedure. You will see the cylinder once you disassemble to that point.
  9. My P car has the same year and model as yours. Same problem appeared as few months back just like what you have described Remote fob died and no resistance on door lock. Search thru. internet, no solution found. So I took the door panel off, removed the handle , disassembled the lock mechanism, and found a broken part . Spend $35 on ebay with a used lock and replaced that single part. Here is what it looks like.
  10. I have replaced both sides of the cylinder with the instruction the Loren provided. It took about 1.5hours only. In additional to that, it will be easier to approach the cylinders if you remove the inside panel. For the hydraulic oil, I bought it off from the dealer. You will need to refill it twice. The system will bleed out all air automatic. About 90% of the bottle will be consummed.
  11. Just do it yourself. Oil is the most expensive part, I used 9L of Luby Moly 0W40 which costed me about $100. + oil filter and drain plug, roughly about $120. Good thing about DIY is that I can let the oil drain as long as it takes ~ 40 min or so. I doubt any garage can wait that long to clear out the old oil .
  12. Good to gather more data from the board. I am planning to take the bumper off and press wash it this weekend.
  13. It was hydraulic oil from the convertible cylinder. I had the same problem and replace both cylinders. It was an easy DIY project, about an hour if you have the parts. Simon
  14. Thanks for the write-up. I had fixed mine on the weekend with a cut down #5 screw extractor.
  15. Can't you just replace the ball joint instead of the control arm? http://www.vertexauto.com/showitem.aspx?&id=279386&name=Porsche%20Controll%20Arm%20Ball%20Joint%20996%20%26%20Boxster
  16. I have the exact problem on my 996 C4. Not 100% sure but suspect is the rubber from the strut top mount. See Picture below. A piece of rubber came off.
  17. Problem fixed ! After removing the door panel and took out the key lock mechanism, I found 2 pieces of small metals. Disassembled the key lock cyclinder and found the broken part. Ordered an used one from ebay and reinstall it. The door can lock and unlock without a problem now. If you have similar issue ( key lock no resistance ), very likely is the same broken part in the picture attached. The linkage seems pretty strong to me. Hope this help other members.
  18. Finally, I have removed the door panel and able to take a good look at the lock. Linkage seems fine. It is the lock cylinder. There was a piece of broken metal off from the cylinder. My options are: - Replace it with a used lock and keep 2 sets of keys. - Replace both Door lock and ignition lock. $$$ - Forget it. Just use the remote. Apparently, the remote is not working. - Buy a used lock cylinder and swap the broken part. ( This is the min, $ solution, and only 1 key require.. Problem is, I have no idea how to disassemble the cylinder. I can't find any instruction from anywhere at all. ) Any other suggestion? Door lock disassemble instruction ?
  19. Hi,

I had the same problem last year, and fixed replaced it with 2 used one. It is a very easy DIY, about 1.5-2hr. You have the option to rebuild, about $350, buy used or new. The best option of course is to buy a new one, which cost about $700 or so. Again, it is a common problem and not that difficult to fix. Good luck.

  20. +1. You cannot remove the door lock assembly from the outside. The door panel has to come off to gain access. Regards, Maurice. Thanks for the reply. I'll try it during my X'mas holiday.
  21. ... and it ran better and happier than in summer time. It was -8F in Toronto. The oil temperature was lower than in summer time, just below 180F. The front squeaking noise ( from the sway bar or drop linkage bushing I guessed ) was completely gone. Engine seemed rev happier. Any of you have the simliar experience?
  22. Key goes in the door lock with no resistant, and can't open the door. Read several threads about this, and it probably caused by " missing linkage or lever ". My question is : do I have to remove the whole panel to get reach of the lever or just the door handle assembly from outside? Difficult DIY?
  23. I have the exact problem. Remote key didn't work and door level was disconnected. I called the Tow truck and hope that they can open the door. no luck. I ended up tow the car home and open the door by myself with a custom steel bar. The steel bar was 1/8" x 6' long. I cut 2 slot and make a hook shape to one end. Then use newspaper to make a gap on the driver side door and slide the steel bar in to the passager side handle inside the cabin. You alarm will go on because of the motion sensor. Once you reach the passenager side door handle, pull twice and it should unlock that door. The rest is easy. I am still struggling to fix the Door lever and my remote is still not working even though battery was changed and lights are good. It would be helpful if anyone can give me any piece of advise. After reading several forum, I am pretty sure is a fault remote control. Sunset is selling for $129. and not sure how much dealership will be charging.
  24. You don't need to remove the cats. An O2 crows foot and the proper extensions will get the job done. You do need to remove the air box. Interesting. I did think about removing it from the top. Lots of obstacle especially from the Driver side.
  25. Read some posts about replacing the o2 sensor. It was suggested to remove the cat. first. Has anyone did it without removing the cat.? I can reach in with a 22mm fix wrench, but not strong enough. Got the sensor socket, but no enough room. Any good suggestion? thx, Simon
