  1. Then what part would correspond with the part number: 996 347 804 64 ? The regular leather three-spoke tip steering wheel?
  2. Then what is the part corresponding to the number: 996 347 804 64 ? (FYI I have the Tip transmission). Thx!
  3. Hi Loren, Could you please tell me the part number for the thicker leather steering wheel (3 - spoke, in black) that was available as an option on the 996? Thanks in advance. Ron.
  4. Looks like someone did a hardwire install of a radar detector. Not a bad job, but the box on the back window is definitely homemade. The dial on the front center console is probably a volume or gain control. I hazard to say the switch on the lower center console (by the ashtray) is the on/off switch. I would suggest trying to find the power source cable. It may have been disconnected, or perhaps the radar detector is dead. Can you remove it in such a way that you don't damage anything?
  5. Go for the red one. It's gorgeous. Problem with black or basalt black, you'll go nut washing it and with the surface scratch swirls. Besides Porsches always look best in a colour IMHO.
  6. I suggest you go to an auto upholstery shop, as I did when I built a false bottom for the front trunk of my Carrera (to cover the 740 watt Boston 5 channel amp). They ended up gluing the carpet to the platform I had built (using a special heat-tolerant glue for carpet and fabric installations) and you would be hard pressed to see the difference in the carpets. A good shop (specializing in auto interior restorations) would have access to a wide range of carpet colors for matching purposes. Good luck!
  7. I suggest you go to www.carnewal.com. Under interior, P96, you will find the upper center console piece (the horseshoe) in aluminum finish. I too have upgraded many parts of my interior to the aluminum finish (rear center console, door pulls, side and center air vents, aluminum dash trim strip. Hope this helps! Ron.
  8. Ok. Here's a picture of the crimp in the exhaust pipe. It appears necessary for the pipe to clear the other section of the exhaust (pipe from the cat to the muffler). Does this crimp adversely affect the flow of exhaust (increase of back pressure) to the detriment of performance, or am I worrying about nothing?
  9. I do think the exhaust sounds a little more aggressive. Perhaps the crimp "tunes" the flow sound???
  10. I will post one this afternoon. However I did come across a photo here once and for the life of me could not find it again in spite of my persistent searches through the forums.
  11. Hi Loren and all, I had the chrome 4-pipe sport exhaust tips installed on my 2002 Carrera C2 last week and they look great. However as you may know, the pipe leading into the chrome tip has a crimp in it at the bend. Although this crimp looks like a flaw or damage from shipping, it is indeed "designed" this way. My question (and I have searched the forums without luck) is this: the crimp appears to restrict the airflow over the stainless steel oval tips that I had removed, which doesn't make sense (why would Porsche engineers want to restrict exhaust flow at that point????). Do you know what the purpose is of these crimps to the pipes? Do they negatively affect performance (my impression is that the car has to work harder now for the same performance)? :( Your input would be greatly appreciated! Ron.
  12. I have the PS2's on both my Carrera Coupe and on my wife's 2001 Audi A4 quattro. In my humble opinion they are the best tires I have ever had, hands down. Excellent traction on both wet and dry roads. Tires need to be warmed up prior to "spirited" driving for maximum adhesion, as is typical of performance tires. Prior to the PS2 I had the Pirelli Assymetrico Rossos on the Porsche. They totally sucked and wore out too quickly.
  13. A good start would be to replace the speakers with something decent, like Boston Accoustics Pro series. You maintain the look as the speaker housings and grills are maintained. If that isn't enough, then upgrade the amp to something better, like a Boston Accoustics 5 channel amp. The head unit in the dash is kept so the final install looks totally stock. Speakers are a great first step and you should notice a significant improvement.
  14. You may have to order the whole ashtray assembly. and it's not cheap. :(
  15. I have the chin spoiler on my 02 Carrera C2 with the stock suspension. Two things should be noted: 1) Be prepared to scrape the bottom of the chin spoiler when driving over speed bumps and in and out of driveways. The angle at which you enter a driveway or a speed bump becomes critical. :( As well, curb stops in parking lots are chin spoiler killers :cursing: 2) Order an extra set of plastic clips for the inevitable of tearing off the lower spoiler. Having said all this, I would still put it on even as I consider going to the ROW M030 suspension!!!! It's just a cost of Porsche ownership I guess.
  16. Makes sense to me. Any recalls for any of these different vendors' exhausts? ;)
  17. So the "01" to "04" parts numbers are more for designating different parts manufacturers?
  18. It seems that Porsche has 5 variants of the PSE for the 996, designated by the last two digits in the part number. The "00" series was for the 3.4 litre engine, and had smaller bypass pipes. However, are there any differences in the other four, "01" through "04", and what would those differences be? Are they significant as to sound, performance and reliability? Thanks in advance.
  19. How much extra is the wiring harness? Any idea what the whole kit would cost?
  20. About a year ago. Here's the link, though. They have them for both the tip transmission and manual transmission. http://rennline.com/product.php/sid/8/aid/...rsche/prodid/78 Cheers!
  21. I am wondering what the best price is right now for the PSE with the manual override switch (and associated parts). Any recommendations for price and retailer? Thanks in advance!
  22. I have the Rennline aluminum pedals (not the ones with the rubber dimples, but the others as there is no slipping on these) and am very pleased with the fit and finish. My dealer installed them in about an hour. There have been no fitment issues whatsoever.
