  1. I had the same problem - the temperature display looked fine but no air coming through the vents. It also affected my headlights as they wouldn't come on fully but were dimmed. My problem was the ignition switch. If I gently "clicked" it back just far enough not to turn off the car everything worked fine. The other possibility that I can think of is the fuse for the blower. I'd check the fuses as the first step in troubleshooting the problem. Pull, inspect and properly re-seat the fuse. You should have a paper in the fuse box cover that details which fuse to inspect.
  2. The link looks like it shows a standard option available in Boxsters. My MY '03 Boxster S has the same Bose box as part of the stereo option when I bought the car new. It does add a good sounding bass to the stereo system but isn't very powerful IMHO since I *always* had the bass set to "9" or max on my system. After searching around for a while - I found two after-market options. One installed where the Bose Bassbox goes and the other in the passenger footwell. Since I already had the bassbox, I decided to go with the one in the passenger footwell and have been super pleased with the result. The bass is worlds better than the bassbox ever produced. I then ended-up upgrading the bassbox by removing the cheap Bose speakers and installing after-market kicker subs. That improved the sound of the bassbox orders of magnitude - to the point where I could probably eliminate the passenger footwell enclosure. My understanding for the after-market bassbox is people have been pleased with the product and I assume it comes pre-loaded with decent subwoofers or you can add a decent subs yourself. Would I pay $700 for the Bose bassbox - no way! I'd look at either one of the after-market solutions - way more cost effective and the sound is much better. The other thing to consider about the Bose bassbox is your current stereo setup. If you're running a stock setup, I don't think the Bose bassbox will simply "Plug in" to your existing setup. I had a CDR23 head unit with an amp with a specific output for the Bose subwoofer option. Looking at the link you provided; they mention wiring not necessarily being available to plug the bassbox into (Copied from the site's item description --> NOTE: The Bose unit does not have any wiring loom which will reach to the front of the car, we recommend that it is fitted & wired at a hifi /stereo fitting centre. Porsche retrofit products do not come with any instructions as Porsche recommend all products are fitted by trained or experienced mechanic. ) and that makes me wonder... Yes, you can add the wiring but what are you hooking it up to? Does your system have a subwoofer output on the current amplifier? If you didn't get the bose option (which I'm assuming you didn't since you're looking at the bassbox as an add-on) then this is a relevant question to add. You're going to be into this well over the $700 you're talking about. Check out this post:
  3. 300,000 Miles? A picture is worth a thousand words - the only question is which words? Probably more questions than anything...
  4. I'm not sure what year your car is but that could be *why* Best Buy told you it wouldn't fit. Crutchfield might give you the same result depending on your year. My MY'03 (CDR 23) showed as compatible on Crutchfield but when I received the kit it didn't work since I had the Bose option and it uses fiber optic connectors between the amp and stereo. When I called them, they told my their database only showed fiber optic in the MY'04 so turned out to be a slight problem. Bottom line is you can still use any stereo and just bypass the fiber optic if yours is so equipped. The other thing to remember is the stereo wiring. The fiber optic doesn't have speaker wire at the head unit so will involve splicing into the stock wiring and (if you're adding an amp) running additional wiring from the trunk into the cabin. You may also have lower impedance speakers so need to ensure your stereo will properly support them. (Most stereos are made for 4Ohm speakers where the Boxster uses much lower.)
  5. I think this is a common problem with all of these cars. The digital / analog speedometer is slightly higher than actual speed. I brought this up to my dealer back in '04 for my Boxster and was told by the service manager that anything within 5MPH is considered to be in specification for the vehicle.
  6. Yes it will fit but the architecture is completely different so will not work without serious modification so would advise against doing this. Among the problems you'd have getting this to work; the biggest issue would be the fiber optic bus and system interface.
  7. I ended up just using the cover that came with the stereo and it worked fine. I wasn't sure about how it would look but once installed was happy with the appearance.
  8. Seriously - it's as if you need an attorney to ever collect on a third party warranty. They stay in business for profit and a claim translates to a loss. I had Western for another vehicle and was turned down for a small claim. That said,I would be super cautious trying to get piece of mind for something that will give you serious grief in the long run... I wrote analytic software and had several warranty companies as clients. Between what to insure, claim rates and other factors, automobiles and electronics were the most lucrative segments they targeted.

Top down of course!!! ;) Finally a break in the rain and some sunny skies..

  11. Agreed - I noticed this morning my idle was around 850 RPM's when it was shaking. Gently touched the gas to get it to 900 RPM's and the shake stopped and idle was smoother. Was thinking maybe going with a mod to see if that would correct it but not sure since I recall you had yours modded already. Haven't had a chance to look-up what the exact idle speed should be but could be this is why not everyone experiences it.
  12. A while ago I was getting a CEL with P0300 / P0306 indicating a misfire on cylinder #6 of my car. The problem surfaced when the car was first started (cold) within the first 0 - 60 seconds during warm-up. I ended-up removing the #6 spark plug and checked the coil pack. There was a slight electrode gap problem with the #6 plug that was corrected to specification. Everything was re-installed and the problem seemed to have gone away. The other day I started the car and within 15 - 20 seconds, the CEL came on. The reader shows P0300 again with P0306 and this time P0305 in a pending state. I'm not sure the exercise I went through the last time actually fixed the problem as it seems to have re-surfaced. Any thoughts on what else to check? I cleared the code and have driven it 4 times since then with no CEL's appearing at all. I notice when the car is first started, the engine seems a little "rough" obviously idle is a little higher until it warms up but kind of makes a quick "cough" when cold. I can take a video and post it if that be useful. The problem only occurs when the car has been sitting (overnight) and isn't warmed-up. '04 996 TT 33K Miles
  13. Mine shakes too - I posted a topic about this (don't recall which site / forum) but all responses said the shake is normal and that their's shook as well. I wrote it off at that point thinking I might be too critical but will be interesting to see if you find anything specific about the shaking. I can say for sure my seat bolts are tight so that's not the problem in my case. The seat back is what I see shaking - essentially back and forth from front to rear in terms of direction. Really noticeable when the seat is devoid of a passenger.
  14. Hi buddy, if its got bose it will have a subwoofer behind rear seats which you cant miss, under the front hood it will have 2 bose amps, if still unsure take door panel off and remove speaker, also dealer will be able to tell you if it was fitted new, option code for bose was 680, check in your service book to see if it is stamped with the code 680, also follow this link for all option codes http://www.964uk.com...ion%20Codes.pdf hope this helps regards Tim 2 bose amps under the front hood? I have bose in two of my cars but only had 1 amp in each. Both cars had the MOST fiber optic system, one with CDR-23 and the other with a PCM. Also, the cabriolet doesn't have a sub behind the seat rather in the passenger footwell.
  15. I'd be interested if I don't lose the capability of the top operation while moving. Sometimes I want to put the top up/down in slow traffic situations and having a stick shift makes this a bit challenging.
  16. Hi Darrin - The bass box is located in the passenger footwell along the center console (at least for the Bose option) and has a small downward firing sub in a ported enclosure. It's held in place by two torx screws.
  17. This is really interesting. I've never seen a conversion where the car feels "right" or doesn't have several quirks and am not sure if this is just because they weren't done correctly to begin with or what. Looks good on paper though - or at least on the forum. Can't argue with the economic factor or reliability of the Chevy engine either - those things are pretty bulletproof. I have to agree a solid conversion would be worth $$$'s so will be interesting to see where this goes... I love the innovation!!!
  18. The CDR23 uses a fiber optic bus so I'd rule that one out. You could probably do the CDR-220 but you won't get charging for your iPod or be able to control it through the deck. You'd be much better off going with an after market stereo that has iPod, Bluetooth, etc. built-in. It's not that difficult and there's a number of threads with details on how to do this.
  19. I second Loren's after market recommendation. Having replaced two stereos I can say you'll find the features and functionality a huge improvement over the stock offerings you'd get.
  20. Ha ha ha - that's too funny! I've changed the oil on many vehicles in my life time but find I have less time so haven't done it in a while. I was actually a little "scared" to even touch it after the conversation since I thought it would be too much for me. Thanks to everyone who chimed in on this - maybe I'll get my 10 year old to help me at the next oil change. I just have to re-iterate how impressed I've been with the Boxster in terms of reliability and overall quality. This car has been THE most bulletproof of any car I've had. (I still have the original battery and have had the car since late '02!!!) It's still one of my favorite cars to drive too; only taking a close second place to the newest addition 911TT...
  21. I'm pushing 85K on my '03 Boxster S - never had an issue with it other than the headlamp switch; which I replaced on my own before I knew the forum was here with easy to follow instructions. Mine is a tiptronic and I appreciate that now that I've added a 6-speed TT to the fleet. My mechanic told me he doesn't do oil changes on the Boxster because they're just too hard. Found another mechanic to take care of that car. Off topic - I see you're from Midland MI - I played lot's of hockey there several years ago...
