    Just picked up car from dealer for it's 100k mile check up (99868 mi). 1. Two new keys and heads - $717 parts 2. Program both keys -$72.50 labor 3. Brake fluid flush - $130.50 labor $46.42 parts 4. Replace motor mount - $362.50 labor $212.58 parts 5. 4 wheel alignment - $325 labor 6. Clean rim barrels - $72.50 labor 7. Fix driver door latch switch - $362.50 labor $137 parts 8. New interstate battery - $101.50 labor $202.60 parts 9. Test drive my car to diagnose drivability issues - $101.50 labor 10. Oil change with wiper - $91 labor $139.90 parts 11. Transmission service - $464 labor $239.02 parts 12. Replace spark plugs - $145 labor $132.72 parts 13. Shop towels - $50 14. Serpentine belt - $0 still good. Car drives great. I've had the car for 3 years and had changed the oil myself but otherwise no other service the last 40,000 miles. This was a good reset for me and plan to do all the work myself from now on. $4k is a pretty steep service charge.

    My Boxster S is at the dealer for routine maintenance and new keys: Towing to the dealer - $200 2 new keys programmed - $900 New driver lock mechanism - $620 Alignment - $325 Brake fluid flush - $180 Tiptronic service - $550 New motor mount - $625 Ouch... Better run good when I get her back.

    My only lingering question.... Why did the transmission Coolant Valve split in half? Hmmmmm.

    I am mechanically inclined but the car was 125 miles from home.

    The auto shop called the Porsche dealer and was told the tranny did not have to come down to replace the transmission Coolant Valve. They charged me actual labor units and not book labor units. Book said 11 hours labor and they ended up charging me 6 hours labor. The mechanic had bloody arms from reaching for the valve. Seemed like a major pita. Thanked him for not dropping the motor and transmission. Drove the Boxster S home like I stole it and conclude that the repair was good.

    Auto shop says I have a transmission Coolant Valve that is split in half. It's only $100 for the part but the service manually says the engine and transmission has to be lowered to get to it. $1400 with labor added. I asked how he knew it was split in half and he said he could see it when he distilled water is poured into the system. I said to him that if he could see it then he should be able to get to it.

    What was the issue? Transmission Coolant Valve?

    Drove her hard today through Vulture Mine road and I then up Yarnell Hill where I had a sudden loss of coolant. AAA towed the car to the closest Import Auto shop.

    If your 2005 Boxster was not an S model then an older S model would give you the same feel as your 05. I would recommend an 03 S model or newer. 03 is when they went to a glass top instead of plastic. Also mine is a Tiptronic which tends to have less IMS problems.

    Bought new tires from tirerack dot com for the first time. They had discontinued Pirelli PZeros at a ridiculous price. 265/35/19 = $189 each 235/35/19 = $199 each Delivery = $57 for all four tires. Had it shipped directly to a recommended tire shop in phoenix and drove in to have it installed. Installation price was fixed at $24.99 per tire. Not a bad experience. The tires I bought were 2006 model Pirelli PZERO N2. Great tire so far. Used to have Bridgestone Potenza Re050. Nervous about the 2006 model thing but I don't see much more that 2 years use out of them if I'm lucky and the price was right.

    Just had a local independent shop in Phoenix replace all pads and all rotors on my Boxster S. Here is the cost: Front Rotors - Zimmerman Coated - $155 each = $310 Rear Rotors - Zimmerman Coated - $147 each = $294 Front OEM Pads - Genuine OEM - $189 pair Rear OEM Pads - Genuine OEM - $149 pair 4 brake sensors - $50 set of four Labor - $300 $1374 out the door. Seems high but since I have 19" wheels I can admire their work quite easily and they did a great job. Nice to see the car have nice shiny brand new brake parts all around. Now for some new tires.....

    I bought my 2003 986 S with a Vertex HID kit. The right headlight started to go out when I came to a stop and required me to turn the headlights off and on and fixed the problem. Now the right headlight won't turn on. It tries to fire but stays off. What's the simplest fix? I want to remove the kit and replace with OEM bulbs. How hard is that to to? I am looking for reliability instead of the HID look. Please help.

    That does not look like what I need replaced. The pictured item for the part number listed looks like it is underneath the front hood. I'm looking for the piece between the hood and windshield directly under the wipers. Item 5 is that piece - it has the windshield washer nozzles in it too? Thanks. I'll order the cowl. I can't find "996.672.931.00 Gasket -- US MSRP $10.32" at pelicanparts.com or anywhere else for that matter. Do I really need it?

    Changed the oil for the first time on my 2003 Boxster S. I used Mobil 1 15w-50 to help with the Phoenix summers. Engine is noticeably quieter and smoother. I let the engine drain for an hour to ensure all of the oil is out. I then added 9 quarts and the dipstick read 1/2 and the digital read 3 bars down. I added another .4 quart and the dipstick is full and the digital is full. I think I'm good but 9.4 quarts seems like a lot. I'll see how she does and will adjust on my next oil change. I'm really liking the Mobil 1 15w-50.

    I am looking for the part number for the plastic trim piece between the hood and windshield. This is the trim piece that the windshield wiper sits on top off. I searched this and other forums as well as looking at the actual 986 parts list pdf and can't find the part number for it. Please help
