  1. 2002 C2 manual: Problem: when parked outside in freezing temperatures, oil leaks from the lower oil pump connector, item 7 in diagram below. When parked in a warm environment, it remains dry.   2. My 2011 Cayenne S has possible sunroof drain leaks. I wanna remove the headliner and address the tubes. Any instructions on taking down the headliner? FYI, I have cleaned out the drains in the wheel arches. Also drained the water in the frame under the sills. No more sloshing sound. Thanks. Roch
  3. I have a 2002 Boxster that enjoys dumping the entire contents of the engine coolant on a regular basis. The entire coolant tank seems to be dumped from the emergency overflow whenever this happens. No warning lights appear on the dash either before or after this occurs. The dump happens only when I turn the engine off after driving. After turning the engine off I hear rapid running liquid coming out of the back of the car, and can see the coolant fluid flooding over the pavement. It completely empties the tank and takes about 30 seconds. There does not appear to be a leak in the system. The first time it happened I called roadside assistance they pressure tested the tank without issue. I subsequently took it to a garage which also pressure tested the tank and did not find an issue. The level does not gradually decline: it is either fine or it dumps the whole thing on power-down. A few months ago the car started dumping the coolant very frequently (almost every time I drove). I took it back to the garage which decided to replace the coolant overflow reservoir which apparently had a crack. This seemed to improve the situation, but in the last few weeks the problem has returned and the coolant is dumped after most trips when I turn-off the engine. The engine temperature shown on the dash is normal, no warning-lights come on, and the fans work normally. At least one of the times this has happened in the past I did not notice it immediately and ended up driving around for some time before realising there was no coolant. I have owned the car for about 2 years, and the issue first occurred about a year ago. Has anyone come across this before? I don't really want to take the car back to the garage for them to do yet another random "fix", charge me a fortune and not actually address the problem.
  4. When I went out to the garage this morning I saw a puddle in front of the left front wheel. I thought I had a bad radiator but when I got in and took a look it appears that the leak is coming at the connection between the breather tube and the radiator, check out the picture. So, my question is this; is this a bad radiator or a bad breather hose? Thanks!
  5. Hey everyone, I am new on this forum. Was recommended to create a topic about my problem here. Its a Cayenne S V8 2011 petrol Recently noticed oil leaking from the front area (left side of the car). See the Picture:) Porsche workshop is not fully sure yet about exactly where its leaking from. They think its from the oil pan and to find the exact place or fix it, they will have to take motor out and as well gearbox as I understood. They have recommended me to drive it 1000km and come back again for the check-up. They say its coming somewhere from the oil pan, but coulld as well be from somewhere above the oilpan. Thought post it here, and check if someone have had this kind of problem on their 958 or know about it. It leaks only when the car is running. Thanks for all the help I can get:)
  6. Had a puddle when warm, from the drivers side front (coolant leak as discoloured the drive). Common problem so took the wheel off with it facing as far right as possible, then, If I recall, 7 screws to remove the plastic cover of the inner wheel arch (torxs) Bottom of the 2 pipes were the problem on mine The 2 ends of the pipe means you will need a big bucket to catch all the fluid, There will be a something like a 3mm wire cir-clip that retains the hose, one at each end, make sure it is well clear or take it off all together, its easy to get back on. then just pull the hose off and get wet.(image) The leaking end had been bodged before so was I had to wiggle for a while, don't forget the car is on jacks so don't pull too hard. then release the other end, I must have releases a good 3 litres of coolant out of the car. The new hose (image) is apparently silicone based, and I read that you are not to use silicone lubricant on silicon hoses? So you will have to decide on what to put on the hose to aid insertion. Clean everything as much as you can, then push the new hose and put back the clips on both ends (test pull to see if well located). With the Gen2 (might be cayman and boxster the coolant refill should be done with a full drain as per other tutorials, but to refill and bleed you have to remove the engine cover and find the bleed valve as per image. not in the boot as gen1( as I understand) Check for leaks
  7. Has anyone had any experience with transmission Fluid leak on automatic, tiptronic 986, its by the front driver side tire, only about a half cup's worth. The car is an 03 with 107k miles, I have had the ims bearing taken care of and replaced the rms, no oil leaks. The air pump, fuel pump and aos have all been replaced with in the past 10k miles... at my last service mechanic stated that the transmission wiring harness would be the next thing to fail based on the mileage of the vehicle. Has anyone had any experience w this? Could this be the cause of the leak? ... any insight would be appreciated
  8. I have a 2006 997.1. Recently I noticed that the plastic cover at the rear of the car was covered in oil. After pulling it it was obvious that it was gear oil from the transmission, and that it appeared to have come from the left (driver's) side axle. I pulled the halfshaft and replaced the seal. I then refilled the transmission and the leak has not gone away. I figured I screwed up on the seal, and replaced it a second time just to make sure I hadn't lost the tension spring or whatever but that didn't do anything. My next thought is that it was probably overfilled. The book states 2.9l, but my assumption is that it can't actually take that much during a change -- only when filled from dry. After some googling I found some references to 2.6l when doing a change, though I've not been able to verify that in the owner's manual, service book, or anywhere else. I started slowly draining fluid and driving around the block to see what happens. As I drain more fluid it leaks less and less. However, I don't want to end up with too little so I'm not sure what to do here. The seal was an easy change, but I'm not too keen on doing it again because I'm pretty sure that's not the problem at this point. Does anyone know if the transmissions on these cars might have some kind of vent on the driver's side? The passenger side is dry and clean and there haven't been any problems with it. Is it likely that it's still overfull and the seal is really meant to prevent excess from splashing out and too much oil will still find its way out? From what I see those seals really can't do much to hold anything in if there's an excess of oil being thrown at it.

After a recent oil change (which I did, as a matter of routine, including draining the turbo reservoirs), I have suddenly developed a major oil leak coming out of left side intercooler pipes area. Have not yet investigated in detail. Shop where I just had an alignment done thinks it's a blown left turbo oil seal. Says turbo will likely have to be replaced. When I did a brisk left-accelerating-turn on the way back to my office, I generated a huge cloud of oil smoke. Otherwise, it is not visibly smoking, but it did leave a 12" diameter puddle of oil on the parking spot. Car has 80K miles. I have a lift and do all my own work (except alignment). 1) Is this indeed the likely a blown turbo oil seal? This seems uncommon, but perhaps not unheard-of, from scanning the forum. 1a) Is there anything I could have done during the oil change to cause this? I followed the same procedure I always do. 2) Is turbo replacement the only wise option?($3000 from Sunsset) What about a rebuilt "genuine OEM" unit from BuyAutoParts on eBay? ($679) 3) If I am going to the trouble to disassemble the turbo/exhaust system, would it be advisable to perform turbo and exhaust upgrades? We are satisfied with the stock power and sound, but mods are always fun and this might represent a good excuse to do some...as long as the cost isn't exorbitantly more than just repairing what I've got.
  10. Hi, I have a 2008 Porsche Cayenne with a a CEL for P2404. The car runs completely normal and this is the only check engine light code. The only information I found on this is: P2404 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Sense Circuit Range/Performance Possible cause of fault - Insufficient vacuum (system has a leak or blockage) - Short circuit to B+ in signal line - Leakage diagnosis pump faulty (diaphragm or reed switch sticks, internal solenoid valve stays closed or is blocked) -DME control module faulty I was wondering if there was anyone with a similar issue or anyone with knowledge of a reported fix. If not, I'm a pretty good DIYer. Does anyone know how I should go about diagnosing this?
  11. Doing my usual Saturday morning check-under-the-car routine, and noticed that something might have been seeping/leaking very slowly. I was investigating what could be making the noise referred to in this http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/44468-auto-noise-when-stationary-and-in-gear/ Nothing on the ground. Did the most sensible thing, and pulled the cover off, and cleaned it up (pic below) Checking around, it seemed that the area around the transmission oil pan is a bit grimy, like being caused by slowly escaping oil. Interestingly, one of the bolt's head was filled with oil. Definitely not engine oil, so would it be that the pan's gasket is leaking, or the pan hasn't been tightened correctly causing it to seep oil? Or is it something else? Car is 2003 C4 Cabriolet Tip
  12. Hi Everyone, My name is Andy, based in Swansea, South Wales, UK. Having just bought my first Porsche (an '02 C4S) with 70K on the clock - I have been googling my little socks off looking at all things 996! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this car - never owned anything that goes round corners like it... the downside is, it keeps me lying awake worrying about it - but I think that's the usual new car paranoia, which will settle down! Having found loads and loads of excellent posts written on this forum I decided to sign up, say hi and hopefully pick a few brains! Currently, I am making myself extremely paranoid about the whole IMS issue! The reason for this is there is a little bit of oil at the base of the engine (eg the normal IMS / RMS leaky bit - according to images on the web). The leak is VERY, VERY slow (more just damp) and is not dripping or anything (have wiped, driven and nothing much more coming back down). The question I have is this. There seems to be some discrepancy in information regarding leaks in this area. Some people seem to be suggesting that leaks in this area are NOT related to internal (eg potentially catastrophic) IMS issues as the "problem" bearing is actually sealed inside the engine behind the outer seal and therefore leaks from the outer seal are not relevant, they are just that, leaks from the outer seal and cause no damage, just irritation - and possibly the owner paying a bit more attention to oil levels! Others seem to suggest that vibration caused by wear to the internal bearing cause the outer seal to leak, and therefore one SHOULD be worried. Can anyone provide any clarification on this, should I panic / stop driving / do an oil change and check for metal / jump out the window / drive it like I stole it? In short, I don't want to waste a load of money if not necessary - are there any rules of thumb? Incidentally, I'm not worried if it's just a very slow oil-leak from a seal I can deal with that in due course! I'm sure this topic has been gone-over ad nauseum, so apologies, but can't seem to find definitive answers! (maybe because they don't exist!) Best regards, all - and thanks! Andy
  13. Hey all, Looking for some help here. I developed a pretty bad coolant leak about a month ago, i was losing about 1 liter per week. When I got under the car i saw the dripping coming from the tip of the waterpump, and surrounding areas. Since the car had gone about 60k since it was last replaced I bought that and replaced it thinking that would be it. However, after assembling everything back together.... The leak seems to be coming out of whatever is next to it. Attached are a few pictures, any help as to what this is; or how to troubleshoot would be great!
  14. 2009 C2S 50K miles I poured some water on the closed roof and water drained into the car from two places around the panel. (It actually seeps in everywhere but two, two inche lines poured in unabated.) Any tips? Questions: - What brand/type of solvent should I use? - Where to I apply the adhesive to? The leading metal edge or at all contact surfaces? - How do I get the trim to match up tightly? Slide and work it? About $100 with shipping from Pelican. When the car leaked, a drip from the dome light, the car was canted forward in a parking lot and I suspect the inflow exceeded outflow rate and it filled up. So I figure I can decress the inflow rate by installing a new gasket. I checked the drains and they are clear.... I pulled the front wheel liners and ran some weed wacker line up until it came out at the sun roof.. By the way, it appears to be an odd design as the water drain hole is way high in the wheel well and just drips all over everything in there including an electronic module near the rocker panel gets soaked. Of course I worry that I will make a bigger mess of it.   15. Hi everyone, Recently been dealing with a 996 TT with excessive smoke... After some turbo rebuilding the smoke from the tailpipe stopped but they started leaking externally. After some research turbos are not necessarily oil tight..meaning that the oil is not getting evacuated from the turbo reservoirs. More time and research led me to checking the turbo scavenge pump (yes they have 3, 1 on each head and one in the center for the turbos) Attached are the photos of some carnage, basically the drive off the intermediate shaft is stripped. I'm hoping one of the gurus will chime in on the extent of the required repairs now... Is the drive piece replaceable or am i splitting the case? Cheers, D.
  16. Uh oh. '99 Boxster with 160K was leaking a bit of coolant for a bit, then after a trip to the grocery store, steam started shooting out from coolant reservoir in trunk, and coolant starting pouring out of underside, by passenger side R wheel. It was like a teapot. . . . . .but that's not tea. I'm going to guess this is not a fix I can do myself. Anybody want to guess what it is, so I can tell the guys at the shop? What should I expect to pay? Shop is 20 mins from here, with significant highway driving. Can I dump distilled H2O to limp my car down there, or do I need a tow? Thanks as always, friends. B
  17. I have a MY 1999 996 C4 that I had to have towed because of a coolant leak. I saw smoke coming form the engine area so I pulled over, saw the leak and thought it best to get a tow. I initially thought it may be a hose leaking, but found that when I squeezed a hose, it looked like coolant was leaking from the lowermost flywheel (where the serpentine belt goes). Is this possible or could it be leaking from somewhere that I cannot see? About 1000 miles ago I had a new clutch, IMS and RMS bearings installed. Could any of these repairs be related to the coolant leak? I want to try to fix this myself before having the car towed for repairs if possible. Thanks in advance for your help!
  18. I am a new owner of a 2000 996 C2 cab with 75k miles. I started to change the rear brake pads today and saw that the fount side of the right rear wheel housing was covered in what appears to be oil. I removed the splashguard and found a vent or drain that had fluid draining out of it. I searched the forums and my manual but cannot find what this vent is for. I suspect if is for the convertible top housing above. Can anyone tell me what this vent is for and if the fluid is likely hydraulic fluid from the top mechanism or an engine oil leak? I am fairly certain it is not coolant. I have enclosed two pictures. The splashguard has been removed as well as the rubber baffle over the vent. Thanks in advance to anyone that can offer a suggestion. This is my first post on a forum of any kind so if I am not doing something right pleas let me know.
  19. 1999 Boxster S Tiptronic 57K miles. Spent good part of the afternoon trying to get to the bottom of coolant loss from the expansion tank. Wife went to use the car yesterday and the red light started flashing, checked the expansion tank - empty. Took about 3 litres to refill. Today I went through a 'bleed' procedure. Pulled up a spring loaded clip on top of tank, slowly filled tank, remove a fuse B1 to effect some sort of valve - apparently only needed for tiptronic system bleeds, run engine up to 90 - used cooking thermometer into expansion tank, reving engine every few minuets. There was a visible flow. The tank spilled over when it hit about 90(when the stat opened?) then settled down fine.This process took about 40mins. Reset spring clip, refitted fuse(which stopped the instruments working whilst removed), closed tank lid and took car for a spin. After about 6 miles steady driving pulled over and checked tank level - all good. Did another 6 miles with a blast up to about 6K revs in 3rd. Got back home and pulled over. all good. Ticked over for a few mins fine. Did one more lap of the block and pulled over; a large gush of water came out of the top of the tank -about 2.5Ltrs on to the road. Back to square one. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
