  1. I can't wrap my head around how to remove the muffler. I will be doing my plugs and coils this weekend. (had the PO306 code thrown) hope it's just the coils and plugs.. #6 that i could see with the wheel off looked pretty rough, part of the plastic came off in my hand. Is there a good muffler removal tutorial?
  2. Will 8.5 ET40 18 / 11 ET63 OEM GT3 wheels fit on my '02 996? I currently have 5mm and 17mm oem spacers...
  3. I do have an ohm meter... is terminal 1 on the coil and terminal 15 on the engine? (not sure where to put the red and black tester wires) thanks
  4. Should I replace them when I replace the spark plugs - or wing it? I was going to order at least two in case any where bad when I jumped in to it, but is it better to just go ahead and do all six? thanks...
  5. Should you replace the coils too? I've got 95K on the car now. (plan on tackling myself) recent (93K) coolant (indy) brake fluid flush (indy) tiptronic (dealer) oil filter air filter (self) paintless dent removal (indy) ((best 180 ever spent)) coming up: h&r springs m30 bumpstops 5mm & 17mm wheel spacers
  6. not mine, but 232K.. wow... http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ctd/3800398491.html
  7. Is the offset printed on the wheel? (you can see the 18s I have in my avatar) My owner's manual says: 8jx18h2 50mm and 10jx18h2 offset 65mm.... thanks...
  8. I did a quick search and just ended up more confused... I've got 18's and have a set of H&R sport springs on the way... I've read that a popular 996 mod is 7mm front and 17mm rear spacers to push the wheels out .. I don't know where to get 17mm rears, (I've only found 15 and 18?) My question is though, how do you figure out what size lug bolts go with what size spacer? thanks!
  9. i just noticed that yesterday! then stumbled across this post looking for wheel spacer info. however, looks like mine 'your speed is' is 4mph lower than my speedo -
  10. Did this a couple years ago and 4145, 4441 and 4439 not working this go around... which is weird because one of those three worked back then... :( Hi, 2002 Tip CR220 Type 4362 S/N 15000619 thanks, pete
  11. I have a 2002 996 with 51K miles. I read somewhere that the engine issues were not as prone to hit the tiptronic transmission cars (knock on wood) I drive in DC traffic, so while a lot of the time I wish I had the 6 speed, I went for the tiptronic and it's still a blast to drive. You can get amazing deals on '99 to '04s. They changed the headlights in '02 to bi-xenon which I think look better than the 'fried egg' pre '02 lights. Pick up Adrian Streathers 996 book for model year to year info. here's a nice 99 996: 99 996
  12. Can anyone recommend a low dust and/or ceramic pad for an '02 996? I've used akebono with good effect on a different car, but akebono doesn't have pads for the 996.
  13. Finally got the oil/filter done. Glad I had a drip pan. The flow overwhelmed the drain tub I purchased. All good though. I noticed the jack stand battle on a different thread and went ahead and propped it up on 4x4x6. Worked like a charm.
  14. Going for the oil change this weekend. Sunset sent an entire new drain plug with the sealing ring. Any reason why I should use a new drain plug? - or just use the new sealing ring with the old drain plug? thanks, pete
  15. Roger that. Checked under minor - - guess I'll try to tackle the oil change myself. (Filter and Filter wrench from Sunset??) What is the 'particle filter'? Should I even bother with the OBDII default read out? Nothing is showing up on the onboard system.... Sorry for the dumb questions, just new to this stuff. v/r Pete
  16. I was searching for a thread on the 45K minor maintenance and couldn't find one. I've rolled up on it and want to do it myself. Any tips/tricks? I got the Actron CP9550 obd II and am raring to go. Just finished the bumper removal/radiator cleaning DIY. (didn't have any screws left after reassembly!!) (dads help made it easier too) thanks, Pete
  17. Try 4441 or 4439 If you have not already read this FAQ - please do so... Lost Radio Code - FAQ, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST thanks! working now. good excuse to drive for an hour..
  18. Hi, 2002 Tip CR220 Type 4362 S/N 15000619 thought it was 4145, but that's not working. thanks, pete
  19. Switch Replaced. Lights working. Thanks for all the help. v/r Pete
  20. @Wayne Thanks for posting the article here. 1) Rumor has it that the IMS issue is much more rare on 996 tiptronics - your thoughts? 2) Are you going to do a 101 projects for the 996? pete
