I have a 2004 GT3 which I use as an everyday driver. The car is stock with no modifications. I still smile each and every time I get behind the wheel. The car has 10,250 miles on the clock. I had the air filter changed yesterday at the same time as some warranty work was done on the wiper control. I would normally have done this work myself but as it was in the shop, I let them do the switch. The car now sounds different and feels as if the usual superb response is not there. I have checked that the dealer used the correct replacement filter. Any ideas? Mel

Can anyone give me the name of non-dealer shop in the LA area they have used to repair air in a Boxster S. My dealer has quoted around $3,000 to repair a freon leak!

I have owned a 2004 GT3 since November 2003. I still have the same grin on my face every time I sink into the drivers seat (which is every day since I use it as may every day driver). I have owned Porches for the past 25 years and can positively say that no other model has even come close to the 996 GT3. 1. I cannot comment on the Ceramic Brakes as my car has the standard steel set up. 2. The ground clearance is tight but perfectly manageable on city roads. I must admit to having scraped the rubber lip a few times in the early days, but some very fine sandpaper and Armorall soon repairs the damage. The road humps in Dallas are no problem as long as they are taken slowly. The same can be said about parking lot entrances but if you are worried I would do the practical thing and take another test drive which includes the daily obstacles. 3. The GT3 has given me no trouble at all other than having to replace the rear tires every 6-7,000 miles (a direct result of a heavy foot and a function of exhilaration). I cannot imagine that you will drive the car every other day. It will suck you in! Good luck mate.

Help!!!! I took my 1999 Boxster into the dealer to have the "check engine light" problem repaired prior to a smog test. I have done 150,000 miles and so far had almost no trouble with the Boxster. The dealer came up with the following codes: 1. P1115 2. P1117 3. P1118 4. P1119 5. P0102 Any ideas on what the problem could be!!!!!! Mel

My son has a 2001 Boxster S with 135,000 miles. The car has given no trouble except for a coolant tank replacement. Good luck with your toy.

My son has a 2000 Boxster S with 135,000 miles on the clock. Recently the check engine light came on and he received the following "diagnosis" from the dealer: SCANNED SYSTEM FOR FAULT CODES. PERFORMED ON BOARD DIAGNOSIS TEST PROCEEDURE FOR OXYGEN SENSORS HEAT FAILURE. CHECKED WIRING AND SENSORS-OK. CHECKED RELAYS-OK. CHECKED DME CONTROL UNIT-FAULTY. ESTIMATE TO REPLACE CONTROL UNIT IS $1355 NOT INCLUDING DIAGNOSIS FEE. ADVISED CLIENT THAT PART MUST BE ORDERED AND PRE-PAID. Does this seem reasonable and does anyone have any comments on the diagnosis? Mel

Ivan, I have the identical 04 gt3. You will not regret the purchase. I have loved the car since the first time I drove it. Take it easy up to 1000 miles or so. My dealer recommended 4,500 rpm as the top line. I now can reach +80 mph in 2nd and +125 mph in 3rd. The acceleration is stunning and the overall handling is superb. I use the car as an every day driver! Mel

Thanks for the information. The brake lights are working and the fuse is clearly intact. The switch clicks on when pressed in. Any ideas where to look next. Mel

The Cruise Control on my son's 2000 Boxster S (which has now done 130,000 miles without any problems at all) has stopped working. The green indicator light does not turn on nor can he set the speed control. My initial guess is that a fuse has blown. Can anyone add light to the subject (literally and figuratively). Which fuse should he begin with and what else should I suggest he check.

It seems to me what you need is to drive the GT3 (if you can find one). You will never look back. All the qualities you list are present in the GT3. It has endless power and accelleration. You are well into the 80's before the shift to 3rd and 100 comes up inside of 10 seconds with all the power still on tap. The feel is true sports car but the ride can be surprisingly sedate when you so choose. It goes just where you point it and feels in a different league to the Boxster S. I warn you not to try a GT3 unless you are ready to dip into your pocket as you will not be able to resist it. In my view the Turbo is a distant second choice. Mel -
Rockit, Any thing to add on the mods. I am waiting for your assessment before getting to grips with a similar project. I hope you have a few more miles on the clock and can give me a heads up on a do or don't.

Phatbox makes an mp3 player that is compatible with older Porsche Sound Systems. It does not however work with the cdr23. I believe that they are working on compatibility. http://www.phatnoise.com/products/digitalm...ers/porsche.php

I have found with my GT3 that the engine cuts out when you try to left foot brake. However, if you start using a heel toe acceleration with the clutch in, you can then switch to a left foot brake without the engine cutting out. The interlock works in some way through the clutch switch!

You have done a superb job of documenting the upgrade. Your attention to detail is great and you have certainly made the job easier for others. My GT3 now has 1,500 miles on the clock and is loosening each day. Would you please comment on: a. Can you detect any performance improvement? b. Do you think the switch will affect your warranty? c. Is the car still epa legal? d. How much did the new system cost in total? e. Can you describe the sound? Enjoy your toy. Mel
