  1. I am considering a suspension upgrade to my 2000 Boxster S with 18” rims and less than 20K miles. I feel that the stock struts are a little soft on rebound and give me an uneasy feeling when the car gets un-weighted. If I upgrade to Bilstein HD struts will it improve handling without degrading the ride significantly? I have searched several of the boards without getting an answer.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. Hi,

I am a Newbie in this forum :welcome: . Nevertheless I like to ask for your support:

I have got a new exhaust (Gemballa 870 ). It seems that the mechanics havn't adjusted the rear bumper in a correct way. Now I like to do thier job.

Is anyone here who can explain how to remove the rear bumper of a Boxster S, MY2003. Perfect - of course - would be, if there would be some illustration (when it becomes too complicated for a non-professional ;-))

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Best wishes from Germany

    Andre

    Here are the instructions

  3. does anyone have any suggestions regarding the subtleties of removing the amber lense when implementing the soldering iron trick?

I have instructions from a few sources, but I was wondering if there were any extra finess moves to prevent screwing it up.

    Parker,

I have done it on two sets of lights. The second time I made some heat shields out of thin aluminum flashing in place of foil. This approach was much more effective in preventing the melting of the areas around the hole. With the shield in place it is an easy job.

    Good Luck,

    Rich

BTW I have an extra set.

  4. Hey there, i am wanting to get a good round of "paint care" in (i.e., more than just a wax) and was wondering if anyone has tried anything like clay bars or polish or other products.  if so, has anyone used zaino brothers.  i've read good things about them (and from the price they had better be good) but i wanted to know if anyone here has used them and what their experience was.  thanks for your feedback.  also, if anyone has any suggestions or advice i'd appreciate it too.
    Lee,

    Take a look at www.properautocare.com

I just did my '00 S with the line of Menzerna products and I'm very satisfied. My black finish is now near perfect and I can now keep it that way. I did invest in a Porter Cable 7424 polisher which makes the job easy.

    Good Luck,

    Rich

  5. Thinking of using Redline 75 90

Someone know how much oil i need exactly

    i know G86 transmission (5speed) are 2,25l but how about boxster S 6speed?

    someone now for sure?

    thx Simon

I just changed the lub in my '00 S. I put in a little over 2.5 Quarts of Mobil 1 75-W90. The manual says to fill to within 11 mm of the fill hole with the car level.

The Mobil 1 made a noticeable difference in shifting. Much smoother especially 3rd to 4th. :clapping:

  6. I have a rattling noise coming from the exhaust.  Had the heatshields checked and was told that a baffle inside the muffler was the problem.  I would like to replace the muffler and thought that replacing the hardware woud be a good idea as well.  Would like to know what options I may have for a replacement muffler.  Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks

I put an S muffler on my '99 and was very happy with the look and sound. It was just a little deeper in sound and not much louder. I had to buy the upper bracket for the S muffler because the mounting method had been changed over the years. I did the installation myself in about 2 hours without removing the rear bumper. Removing the bumper would have made it easier.

    Good Luck,

    Rich

  7. I'm going for my first DE session next month and setting up my '99 Boxster with a Halon extinguisher. I know about the passanger seat bracket but would like to put the extinguisher a little closer while making it completely removable for off track driving. I'm thinking about mounting the standard holder between the seats backs on standoffs. I can then unbolt and push plastic caps in the standoff holes.

Has anyone seen or tried this?

    Thanks,

    Rich

  8. OK, I checked the fluid level and it's OK. It happened again...this time the steering wheel seemed stuck after I stopped the car and came free with a little pop at the the front wheels after I played with the steering wheel. Almost like the front tires where stuck on something. ?????

I have a '99 and had exactly the same thing happen twice. I was making a tight turn with the wheel at the lock, and the steering wheel stuck at that position. When it broke loose the power steering took a while to come back. :drive:

  9. I'm having a problem opening my front hood. I've had this '99 for 8 months and it has always been difficult to open. At first it just required that I get my fingers under the edge. (do not pop up) Now I need two people, one to pull the release and a second to pull up hard. I have adjusted the latch up because the hood seemed to far down below the bumper interface and used a little silicone spray on it with no improvement. Is the cable adjustable? Why doesn't it pop up when released?

    Thanks,

    Rich in CT
