  1. I used the same LEDs from Custom Dynamics as the OP, but mounted them on Aluminum angle bar (3/4 inch) cut to the length of the LED strips. I painted whatever Aluminum was showing black. I mounted them on the inside of the grill using 3M tape, so that they are recessed. I already had switched power in the trunk from a Laser Diffuser. I really like how they look. The LEDs are really bright and match up with OEM lights I see on newer cars. The only thing I might change is I may bend the aluminum a bit to conform more closely with the curve of the bumper. I'm not sure it's worth the effort as it really does look good. I do have some extra aluminum, so I might experiment. This image from my phone doesn't do it justice. These LEDs are very bright.
  2. Thanks, Ahsai, I'll give that a go if the temperature ever gets above freezing again.
  3. I want to adjust the emergency brake. What problem did you run into? I tried the instructions found on this site for doing the adjustments at the rear wheels and I just couldn't get it right. It barely engages. There are other adjustments that can made from inside the car, under the rear center console, but I'm not sure what needs to be removed in order to get to it.
  4. I did mine last summer and it was my first ever DIY brake job. The only problem I had was adjusting the E-brake, which I will have done by my Indy when I go for an inspection. I bought everything from Suncoast. The dampers are more expensive than you would think, which is probably why they weren't included in the kit. Next time I would reuse them.
  5. Yes, it should work with or without parking lights. The LEDs are probably why you're seeing different results.
  6. I did a lot of reading and watching of videos on the subject of bleeding brakes. I bought the Motive Power Bleeder and a few liters of OEM brake fluid. I thought I was ready to go but I just read a couple of posts that said that if you have PSM, this isn't a DIY because you need a PTS2. My car is a 2000 C2 Cab Tiptronic with PSM. Am I screwed?
  7. Thanks guys, I'll check it out tomorrow. Btw, I found that the instructions for the rear dampers were incorrect, at least for my car. For the rears, the larger dampers go on the bottom and the smaller ones go on top. I finally got them in by peeling off the paper and sticking them to a wide flat screwdriver, then using the screwdriver to press them in.
  8. For adjustment of the cables and turnbuckle, what do you remove to access them?
  9. Look on Pelican Parts, Rennlist, 6SpeedOnline, Ebay, etc for a set of used wheels or wheels and snow tires. I bought a set of mounted snow tires (Pirellis) for $700 a couple of years ago. Having a mounted set of snow tires makes swapping them very easy. You shouldn't be driving normal tires in the Winter - even if there is no snow.
  10. I doubt the exhaust mod would be causing the problems. I would double check that the plugs are all seated properly and all of the coil connections are solid. I had a CEL after doing my plugs and I would have bet money that all of my connections were good. I went back in and sure enough, one of the coil wires came off when I tugged on it. I used the OEM Beru plugs and I see a noticable improvement after the change. The old plugs were Bosch but I can't say whether the improvement was due to the brand or just the age of the old plugs. My guess is the latter. I have the Fister mod too, but I had it done by Fister. I love the sound and I have a Cab. I guess it depends on how faithful your local shop was to the Fister mod. Maybe you just need to get used to it. I've had mine for 2 1/2 years and I still get a kick out of them.
  11. Can the emergency brakes be adjusted with the wheels on - one bolt removed? I can't seem to get it right and I'm tired of removing the wheels and remounting them.
  12. They keep falling out before I can get the pads in. Any tricks or tips? Got it! Either the DIY is incorrect or I have a weird set up. The larger damper goes in the bottom and the smaller on top. This is opposite of the fronts and opposite of the DIY instructions.
  13. Scroll down a few posts - There is someone with a totaled 996 that might be willing to sell a low mileage 3.4l engine. Maybe it's a match made in heaven.
  14. Hi, I'm about to replace pads and rotors all around and also need to flush the brake fluid. Is there a benefit to doing one of those procedures before the other? If I can't find the brands of brake fluid mentioned in the DIY, can I use any DOT 4 brake fluid?
  15. Are the heated washer outlets standard or are they only on cars with headlight washers? Do you have a photo?
  16. You need to enable "AUX" on your radio. This is what I found using the search function on this site: "Turn the radio on, hold down the TP button until Becker 1 is displayed. Turn tuning knob until AUX OFF is displayed. Then arrow down and change it to AUX ON. Turn the radio off."
  17. Congratulations! You didn't state the mileage, but for model year 2000, the spark plugs should be changed every 45k miles. While you're in there you should change the tubes and O-rings as well. I think you're going to be surprized how expensive it is to get a second key with working remote.
  18. Nice job. What size LEDs did you get? I have MK-I lights and a stock bumper and I would probably put the LEDs under the headlights, possibly in the grill. How do they attach?
  19. So sorry to hear about your troubles. Most likely amateurs/drug addicts as most pros stay away from Porsches. Porsche is one of the least-stolen of all cars.
  20. The Plx reader can be left installed and will not drain the battery, which might be why it costs more than the others. It also is the only one (I think) that works with iOS devices. I was thinking that it might be nice to have the real-time gauges available all the time, since I have an iPod touch installed in my car. In the meantime, I think I'll pick up one of the cheaper devices and play around with it. It's amazing that you can get them that cheap.
  21. Would an average weekend mechanic (oil, plugs, filters, etc) get good use out of a Durametric or would something like this Bluetooth ODBII reader be more appropriate? http://www.plxdevices.com/product_info.php?id=GSSTBLUETOOTH
  22. Check out this thread which I believe is similar to your problem. Most likely a tension cable or cord is loose. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/705066-convertible-top-fabric-not-closing-properly.html
  23. swede-man. What year is your car? The color looks very similar to my MY2000 which is Rain Forest Green Metalic. I think silver wheels would look best, but then again, I'm not a fan of black wheels on most cars. I wonder how the red/smoked tails would look with the green?
