  1. I was being serious, this latex is used commonly at race tracks to protect the leading edges of cars. Apply it to a clean car surface using a new narrow paint roller. It dries to a rubbery material and if you have any wax at all on the car it comes off in sheets. Easy and cheep, works for me. Just try not to get the stuff into cracks and crevaces, not the end of the world, just a bit of work to get out of tiny places. And guaranteed to almost 200 mph.
  2. You can buy latex in a gallon can and paint it on the surface with a paint roller. Use this at DE events. When the stuff dries you can just roll the material off with your hands. Look like He** but does the job and cheap.
  3. Not a stupid question, did the same thing myself. Trying to remember, I believe I unplugged the switch from the wiring and remounted the switch on the console lock then repplugged it as I reassembeled the console. I know it took some futsying around to find the right location for the switch, but if you take your time you can figure out how it needs to be placed.
  4. I have Fabspeeds' great quality, sound, and not a bad price.
  5. I try to answer based on the recent pad change on my GT3. The sensors (2, one inside pad, one outside pad) just slide into a groove machined into the pad backing plate. The pad wear sensors can certainly not be used, if that is being the case the sensors can be coiled up and secured to the underpinnings with a wire tie or such. Or they can be removed and a suto sensor can be made from an old sensor connector by twisting the wires together and inserting the adapter into the receiving plug. I used Pagid pads and the fronts had the proper groove for the sensors while the rears had a groove cut but did not fit the sensors, so I just didn't use them on the rears. Hope this helps.
  6. I can't say first hand but I believe the 996 crest in held in place by a small " rivit" which needs to be ground off from the back, the the crest can then be removed. Please let us know as I am thinking on changing mine.
  7. In years past this was standard procedure in any race type engine, especially high compression motors, re:GT3 (11.8:1). Spark quality and it's relative location was and probably still is important to efficient ignition. If you're just driving to pick up the groceries, the difference is certainly not going to be an issue. But in a racing environment, you take all those little things that don't make much of a difference and add them up, it can make a win or loss difference. It would be interesting to know, of all the folks that finished in GT at Daytona, what type of plugs they were using. It's kind of ironic that folks will spend $6000 for a 10 hp gain but are very quick to discount a very inexpensive possible couple of hp. Maybe I need to go back to school but I have a difficult time understanding the benefit of the multiple electrode over the single. In most cases, if not all, you would only have one spark from the center electrode to the matching ground electrode having the least resistance path, regardless of the number of electrodes. The other ones are only there to get in the way. Color me confused, not the first time and not the last, I'm hoping someone can explain what I might be missing. Please don't think I'm being argumentative, I just like a good, informative discussion. This is how I learn. I'd love to hear everyones comments.
  8. I'm wondering if there is any value in "indexing" the spark plugs when they are installed using shims/washers to align the plug gap to face the intake valve when fully tight. I have done this on engines in the past and was just curious.
  9. I totaly understand, we get a new car and want to tinker and make it "better". I went through that myself. I think we all do. But after a series of track outings you will be able to judge for your self what needs to be changed or not, based on your driving style, not what every one else has done. Don't believe everything you read. Get yourself some good safety equipment and get out there and drive the wheels off that puppy..... enjoy! Simply my humble opinion.
  10. I've only done a couple of things, Fabspeed Mufflers and different air filter, about 5 hp or so gain. More gain with the Fabspeed muffler bypass. All mods reasonablly priced, less than 4 figures. What kind of HP are you looking for, out of the box this car is faster than I can reasonablly drive it. Plan on spending a grand on driving schools, then worry about more HP.
  11. Any easy way to get a set of wires from the engine compartment to an area around the front console? I have 3 thermocouples to get to gauges mounted up front. Tnx
  12. Two things, first get rid of those OE yellow "Comfort" brake pads, I changed to Pagid RS 4-2-1 dark blue in the rear and street black in the front, different colors but essentially the same, both same compound. Second being the change to a light weight flywheel. A world of difference.
  13. First, Loren, thanks for all your help in the past. Just wanted to let you know it is appreciated and I'm sure all the other folks you've helped feel the same way. I'm getting rid of the OE "comfort" pads and installing Pagid RS 4-2-1, 2707 fronts and 2405 in the rear. My question is what other items I might need to complete the change as I already have the pads. I did notice on the pad replacement posting for the standard 996 suggested some replacement bolts, clips, etc. to be used during the installation. Can some of the hardware be reused? Thanks again.
  14. I would appreciate the paint code for '04 Arctic Silver. My car is in storage and don't have easy access. I'd like to place an order for some spray touch up paint. Anyone suggest a supplier for touch up paint? Tnx
  15. I would like to replace the gold crest on the air bag of my '04 gt3. The car being silver would, I think, look better with a silver crest. Can the oe crest be easily removed and is a similary sized crest available in silver? There are some sized larger that glue over the existing one but would prefer one that would fit into the existing recess looking a bit neater and stock in appearance. I have already made the exterior crest change to silver. Also there has been some discusion as to wether a metal object should be placed on the airbag cover, the contention being a plastic crest would be preferred. Tnx
  16. If my memory serves me correctly, the GT3 mark I came with an emergency electrical disconnect located to the driver side of the battery just in front of the wind screen. Wondering if there might be a install diagram and parts list for this assembly? Tnx
  17. The plastic linkage connecting the shifter and cable has been known to fail. Some have changed this piece to a metal one to prevent this breakage. If your lucky this may be your problem. Please let us know what you find.
  18. Loren, What I'm specificly looking for is a kit to convert the GT3 using the "new generation" ceramic rotors. Is there any way to tell if the GT3 kits listed are using the new ones, ala 997, or still using the "old" style rotors of the origional, '04 cars. Or will the 997 kit listed fit a GT3? (non-997)
  19. Loren, I'm going to change the brakes on my '04 GT3 from the steel viarity to ceramic. Do you know the P/N of a kit to do the conversion using the new "improved" ceramic rotors as used on the 997S? Tnx
  20. I have need of the P/N's for the right and left exterior rear view mirrors in carbon fiber as used on the GT3 RS. Are they a direct replacement for the OE ones? Thank you again! Regards, Ray
  21. Loren, Here we go again, need P/N's for a '04 GT3 throw out bearing, clutch friction plate and that guide tube. While your looking in that direction anyway it might be informative to get the flywheel, gear and pressure plate numbers as well. Thanks again! You save us all a bunch of time and it is appreciated. Ray
  22. I hope someone can help with a P/N for a '04 GT3 RS carbon fiber rear wing assembly. The one that can be fitted onto the OE GT3 rear deck. Tnx
  23. Anyone have the P/N for the GT3RS carbon fiber wing? Tnx
