  1. Pictures are from the rear wheel. Breaks are a Brembo Grand Tourismo set installed in 2003. On 2001 C4 Part # 1B1.8033A2 Front / 2C1.8007A3 Rear http://www.brembo.com/ENG/HighPerformance-...nTurismoBrakes/ ah, thx. i thought you were using stock calipers because of the PORSCHE script on the front.
  2. thx again loren. that's the part i am looking for. i am also thinking about changing my old style with "exposed" bolts to the newer style "recessed" bolts. i will definitely take pics.
  3. just taking precautions from oil starvation at the track. i've read of an updated oil pan baffle for 2000+ cars... anyone have the part #'s?
  4. LOL you troll this board too!!!! i really want to give the toyos a go but i want to make sure :help:
  5. i keep seeing 3% figure as the maximum tire height difference, front to back, though i have never seen it in the manual. is it there? basically, i am looking at a set of toyo ra1's for my track wheels. sizes 245-40/18 and 305-35/18 on 18x8.5/11 wheels. front diameter is 25.6 and rear is 26.3, the percent difference being 2.7%. will these sizes screw up the ABS?
  6. IIRC, the gt3 chassis starts off as a carrera4 chassis. it was chosen for it's added stiffness due to the c4 front differential bulkhead. it is then seam welded. not sure about your other questions. What is different that makes the chassis stiffer? Differently shaped, or additional pieces? Thicker sheet metal? Full seam welding? I read someplace the MY02 and up Carrera had a stiffer chassis than the older cars. Anybody know how that was accomplished? Why is the engine refered to as Modular? Bill
  7. 100 bucks!?! that's a no brainer. leave it to the experts. if they end up breaking any studs then they have the proper tools to fix it.
  8. errr, ummmm, welll.... i did em myself but i was lucky. it appeared that the previous owner had the headers removed for some reason allowing the header bolts to be easily removed. they probably used some anti seize. if your car is straight from the factory there is a good possibility they didn't use any anti seize. if you break these bolts you are SOL. one of the bolts on my car apparent had bee broken because there was an insert in one of the bolt holes. SPR had a terrible time swapping the headers and ended up busting quite a few of the bolts. he ended up flat bedding the car to the dealer. oh ya, i did break one of the bolts that attach the cat pipes to the header. :(
  9. got this from another board, "2002-2004 Carrera vs. GT3. Chassis: The GT3 chassis is the Carrera4, Carrera4S, Turbo, GT2 chassis (stiffer). The Carrera chassis is unique to the Carrera (Coupe and Convertible), the front chassis is shared with the Boxster. Body: Same body panels with the exception of front bumper, rear deck lid (including ugly spoiler on GT3), rocker panels. Most of the Carrera have sunroof, but the delete option was available. Brakes: The Carrera and Boxster S share the brakes. GT3 uses 6 piston front calipers and 4 piston rear calipers, on bigger rotors. The GT2/GT3 rear brake pads are the Carrera/Boxster S front brake pads. Bigger brake cooling guides on the GT3. Different ABS calibration on the GT3. Suspension: The front wheel carriers on the GT3/GT2 are shared with the C4, the Carrera uses the Boxster wheel carriers. Adjustable height coilovers on the GT3 vs. Coilover on the Carrera. Spring Rates (F/R): 146#/203# (170#/260# on M030) vs. 228#/543#. Ride height (F/R): 158mm/158mm Carrera vs. 125mm (115mm in RoW)/128mm GT3. GT3 uses front monoball camber plates vs. rubber upper mounts on the Carrera. Rear upper mounts are rubber on both cars, but stiffer on the GT3. Interior: No Rear seats on the GT3. Sport Seats standard on GT3 and optional on Carrera. No speakers on the doors on GT3, optional door speakers on Carrera. Reduced sound insulation on GT3. Rear carpeting with GT3 logo. Everything else looks the same. Wheels: 17" standard on Carrera vs. 18" standard on GT3. Carrera 18" wheels 8" x 18" ET50, 10" x 18" ET65 vs GT3 18" wheels 8.5" x 18" ET40, 11" x 18" ET63. Engine: Modular engine (a.k.a RMS-leaker/Wet sumper) on Carrera 2 with 320Hp (345Hp with X51) vs. GT1 evolved race engine on the GT3 (dry sump, 8200rpm redline, Titanium connecting rods, 380Hp underrated power). I've driven the 996, 996X51, 997S and GT3, the GT3 feels stronger than the suggested 60Hp difference. GT3 uses a third radiator while the Carrera uses 2 (3 on the X51). Transmission: Boxster S and Carrera have the same transmission, no LSD, no adjustable gear ratios, no rebuildable. GT3 uses the GT3Cup transmission with a different R&P (3.44:1), LSD, 3rd-6th gear can be changed, 1st and 2nd gear changes require a new shaft. The transmission can be rebuilt entirely (gears, syncros, seals, shaft, r&p, etc.) Electronics: no PSM available on the GT3, while optional on the Carrera. There are more differences, although minor, such as rpm gauge with GT3 script, stereo, model designation, spare tire vs. no spare tire, rear windshield wiper, etc. However, a lowered, Aerokit II Carrera with GT3 wheels looks exactly the same as a GT3."
  10. my motons have 450/700 lb springs but the dampening is MUCH stiffer than PSS9s. dampening on Pss9s are much softer than on moton club sports, even on full stiff. mine are barely streetable and are better suited for the track but PSS9s are more of a performance street setup. got this from another board: spring rates for gt3, ft 228#/rr 543#. i don't think PSS9 springs are any stiffer than gt3 springs.
  11. thx loren. hmmm so if i have a 6 speed there really is no need for the CAN bus then. i imagine on the e-gas/PSM cars then there would be a greater need for it.
  12. hey loren (and others) i was wondering if you can help with some wiring issues. i am trying to wire up my AiM XG log data logger to tap off the ECU's data stream through the CAN high and CAN low wires. dave at precision auto research has been great at helping me with the wiring but we both wanted to be sure. the AiM system needs to attach to the ECU's CAN + (high) and CAN - (low) wires. i have found thru alldatadiy.com that i can tap ECU pinouts 85 (CAN -) and 86 (CAN +). according to dave's porsche techs, that these are the correct pinouts but the diagram does not show the color. apparently BL is CAN + and GR is CAN - (BL=blue and GR=grey correct?). it also appears that i can tap into these wires from the green plug, PLUG A, from behind the instrument panel. alldatadiy doesn't have a wiring diagram of the green plug so i was hoping you would have it. thx
  13. it's fine for the street but i track the 996 regularly. hey, the gt2, gt3, cup cars RSRs have the third radiator so it must be there for a reason ;) i'd like to reconfigure the rads to RSR style, venting out the sides of the bumper, but the bumper is too aggressive for the street. btw, i wouldn't expect it to run cooler since the engine has an ideal running temp but i do expect the temps to remain more constant at the track. the needle has been between the 2 and the 5 and a couple of times at the 5 and just past it on a couple of hot track days. good idea though regarding the ac condensers.
  14. the seat itself is a no brainer, just held on with velcro but how do you remove the seat backs? anyone with instructions?
  15. thx loren. i have seen your picture but i just wanted to make sure  after i had mine installed i expected temps to be lower but, in my case, it seemed to have no effect. one major problem is that, because of my aftermarket gt2 look bumper, i didn't use the included ducting. i think i either have to make the ducting "fit", make my own ducting or convert it to gt2 type of ducting/orientation.
  16. to anyone with the third radiator, looking at it front the front, does yours tilt forward or backward? i had mine installed and it seems that the only way it can be installed is tilting towards the back of the car whereas the gt2 third radiator tilts towards the front.
  17. i bought insurance from AMERICAN COLLECTORS INSURANCE. very professional and well known. covers the car no matter who drives. lasts a calender year not a set amount of DE's. never had to use them, touch wood.
  18. if you are talking of the resonator box in the oem airbox (and i think you are), you really don't know what you are talking about. i had the stock airbox removed aka fabspeed kit (not at their stupid prices though) and it sounds nothing like the evo airbox. the evo let out an absolute howl whereas just removing the box sound very much like stock. you should try really listen to it before commenting like that. i can even give you a ride in my car back to back with oem box and with evo and you will see a huge difference in sound. regarding the MAF, if it becomes fouled with oil the a quick clean with electrical contact cleaner and it's as good as new. i can speak from experience, can you? B)
  19. hey doug, grade 8 - 7/16 fine thread bolts. i bought various lengths, 1/2"-3/4"-1"-1/2" longer than the oem bolts. if you can find 8.8 then even better. if you haven't yet, check this thread out rockitman's rollbar install. be sure to check out wolfgank's cutting template. THIS IS THE KEY for an easier install. it took me about 3 hours for the install, solo.
  20. i don't think it's the quality, rather its the length of the bolts. i ended up getting longer grade 8 bolts upon the recommendation in rockitman's write up and it was SOOOO EASY to get the seat belt bolts in. i did the install myself following the instructions from rockitman and wolfgang. what made the install easy was making sure the plastic substructure was cut away. it looks great. i have the crossbar version so i can use a harness but i do miss the access to the rear.
  21. it all depends on the offset. i have 19x10 sportecs with bridgestone so3 285s and they rub. mind you my car is very low, so low that the top of the tire tucks in behind the wheel well. the wheels have an aggressive offset, ET50. IMHO, you definitely should lower the car w/ 19s, it would just look funny if it was still jacked up. regarding ride quality, how bad are your roads? the fwys i drive in the bay area are for the most part, pretty smooth. when you get into downtown SF is another story though  . FWIW i found that the tires also play a major role in comfort. the conti sc2 on my 18s ride a lot more harshly than my bridgestone so3 19s! conti's suck! noisy, harsh and not very grippy. those f110s are super nice AND very light especially for being a 19" wheel. at less than 20lbs, lighter than some 18" wheels too. i couldn't swing the the price so i got the sportecs. if your car is not lowered or just slightly then it should be fine. if its lowered like mine then you will have to do some fender rolling. i may even go for a little more negative camber, it'll help out with the rubbing and help handling on the track too :D . i rolled the fender lips myself using the traditional fender rolling tool, a baseball bat. tire rack has a "proper" fender rolling tool for ~300 TIRE RACK FENDER LIP ROLLER
  22. Harry, I am also getting the B&M very soon. Let me know if you are going to do the DIY installation. I would like to drop by to help and watch if you don't mind. George <{POST_SNAPBACK}> George, I have 2 left hands so I am afraid I would not be safe in attempting the installation. Graciously, Loren has suggested he can help ( I hoop he still remembers :-) ). I still need to get that organized. Send me your contact info and I will talk with you as soon as I know when this "event" will take place. Maybe you could attend... email hroussar@yahoo.com This morning I visited Carlsen in Redwood City and talked with Brian H. . They are also seeing to a leak I seem to have in my a/c system. Expensive repair OUGH!! Brian is taking good care of me . Thanks B.!! But.... they had 2 GT3's with standard manual shifter and one Turbo Cab with the Short shifter ( factory) installed and the difference is AMAZING. Yes , this much more notchy and it needs more effort to change gears but it turns the car even more into a real DRIVERS machine... I tried Loren's shortshifter( in his C2 ) a while back and that is AS GOOD AS the Porsche version , maybe even slightly better. I am sold. It reminds me of my DeTomaso Pantera a while back... actually a LONG time ago. I also met Carlos there and saw his Carrera. The car is going fast standing still. Very nice ..in english english... Bloody nice indeed. Cheers HarryR C2 1999 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> it was good meeting you too harry! thx for the compliments  i hope your A/C problems have been fixed. i am also thinking about doing the 3rd radiator. although the past track day proved that my 996 was running fine in 90~100 F heat, i want to add the radiator for a little more security. next track day will be august 6th, thunderhill so you know it's gonna be HOT!
