  1. Hope is not like the X5 my wife drives. No power to any outlets unless car is on.
  2. Either replace your Ciggie liter with a US market version or Buy a US version from Suncoast, Radar Roy or get an adapter from Roy. Or others.
  3. LOREN OR ANYONE. WHERE IS The clutch bleeder valve ? In the Bentley manual the pic is too close to tell. Yellow and blue fluid is available to make sure you had thoroughly bled that old fluid.
  4. u don need no stinkin' part no at Suncoast.com :soapbox:
  5. I bought an extra from Suncoast jus' cuz it makes getting the wheel jus' raht! :renntech:
  6. I recommend 914World and 914club.:Dand NARP . PM me if you want more as I have 40 years experience and a lot of 914 contacts. :welcome:
  7. Or as we do here on The South, spray WD40 every where you can reach.
  8. Try Braille Moll, and Optima. Mine came with a Moll and has had a 17 lb Braille for the last 15 months. From Tire Rack. Came with mounting bracket. As Loren said this topic has been beaten to death and there are many pros and cons. As a 914 owner I'm exremely sensitive to hell hole damage from lead acid batteries and prefer any solid battery. My Braille is mounted poles forward for maybe 0...1 o/o improvement in CG and 25lbs in weight.
  9. As a 40 year member there is no question about the value. Not just for normal 10 per cent dealer discounts, but for events ranging from insured driver ed to comp racing on tracks or in autocross and rallies , and free valuations on your car, ads (wanted or for sale) in Pano and online, a great website, model registries (I'm in 914, Boxster and Cayman registries), free tech advice from THEE premier experts in Porshedom online or in print, Porsche parking area at major events, access to drivers like Parick Long, etc etc etc.. And as Loren said Panorama is just about worth the cost of admission if only for the ads. I just returned form a Toys for Tots event at a local dealer. Catered lunch, free Porsche hats, posters etc, and conversation with like minded Porsche Folk. The motto is "It's not just the cars, it's the people." And that has been my experience in numerous regions over the last 40 year. Some regions better that others, BUT you can make a difference in any region IF you step up to the plate and manage events, write articles, and man corner worker slots , registrations tech inspections , etc. Join. Trust me. Join. :soapbox:
  10. I used the switched cell power and ran harness from Becker to the cell plug (to avoid cutting factory harness). This to tie into the remote mounted in a blank batwing I got from Suncoast for about $7.00. Then ran the wire form the Becker kit up the A-pillar padding to the visor mounted RX-65 There is also an unswitched lead that is handy for powering my hardwired garage door opener to a Targa top switch in the horsecollar.
  11. :welcome: You'll have to search as oil brand and weight are frequent topics. I forget what constitutes an old engine, but I think 88 is okay with a full synthetic like Castrol Syntec.. I use 5W-40, but not sure about your year car. Most would recommend changing oil & filter once a year or every 5-6000 miles. whichever comes first. Much more for track car. I recommend Brad Penn dinosaur oil in 20W-50 for oldsters like my 914. Ramps are not good in most cases as you want the car level. For my Boxster I've used trailer ramps, 2X10s, and jacked the car to get at filter/drain plug. You have to unjack the car to get all the oil out and re-raised to install plug. . Use a jack stand whilst under the car. My 70 911 could be changed by crawling under from the rear. Just use a thin pan. Use a fresh crush ring on the drain plug. And a new gasket if you remove the strainer, which I'd do for first change..

  13. Thanks for getting back to us with the promised report. :thankyou: I'm going the same way when I need replacements.
  14. I don't think the Sunoco 93 would do that on its own. Something might have contaminated the gas (like a recent underground tank re-fuel that stirred up something at the bottom). If that is it and the fuel filter is partially clogged, the in-tank filter will be a :censored: royal PITA to remove and replace. Hope it is something simpler. No codes?
  15. API has adopted two new engine oil performance standards for vehicles with gasoline engines: ILSAC GF-5 and API SN. ILSAC GF-5 represents the latest performance standard set by the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC), a joint effort of U.S. and Japanese automobile manufacturers. Most automobile manufacturers are expected to recommend oils that meet ILSAC GF-5. API SN is the most recent service category issued by API’s Lubricants Group. Oils meeting API SN and the new “Resource Conserving” designation meet all ILSAC GF-5 performance requirements. Vehicle owners and operators should follow their vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations on engine oil viscosity and performance standard. http://www.api.org/certifications/engineoil/new/index.cfm I read General Motors is going to use an ACEA rated version only in synthetic that meets Mercedes standards. Wonder is Porsche will approve, and if it will be good for a pre-05 M96? And if all the ZDDP will be gone.
  16. Thanks, Loren. I'm not impatient. Had a page of new posts since 0749 today and a page and a half of active content.. Oddly your posts in this forum do not show up.
  17. Mine is set to show new content since last visit. I only mentioned active content because it works. Today I had two pages of active content, (44) since about 5:30 PM last nite and only 11 new posts today since 3:49 PM today. It appears something is making my account think I log in when I have not. Of the active content all were new to me, but some were also on the new content
  18. Aren't cold starts with multi-viscosity oil going to be with thin oil? I'd think hot starts with hot oil would be more of a problem, if there is a problem.
  19. 1 new post, but 49 active content that includes some that should have been new.
  20. I thought i posted this already, but maybe I did not hit at add reply button. When I logged in today I got no new posts since 1:00 PM.. Then I hit Forums and got 10 new posts since 1:00 PM. Then I followed your instructions and cleared cookies and re-logged in. No new posts, but probably cuz the cookies were tossed. I did notice in "recently added posts" that there was a posting as early as 9:something this morning. I'll try later or tomorrow and let you know the results. Thanks. Edit: OBTW I get two pages of :Active Content" over the past 24 hours.".
  21. I'd do several things before adding a lot of power, or even a little to an S. LNE's IMS fix first. Adding a third S radiator would be next if I had a basic Box. Then brakes. Certainly would re-look suspension, especially on an older car. Maybe add RoW 030. And wheels and tire should be considered. And my simple answer would be an emphatic NO to forced induction. Personally I'd let Jake Raby work some magic with a bigger bore and some fine tuning. Not cheap, but great and apparently reliable results.
  22. I agree. As one of the few guys from the Southeast who has met him ( I suspect) I can say he has a beautiful house and terrific garage, a lovely wife, and a gorgeous Porsche. Not bad garage mates to keep it company either.:thumbup::thumbup: But even if he were an :censored: , this site would be a treasure. Come on guys, let's git 'er dun!
  23. Well :censored: ! It is baaaack. I even cleared the cookies as you suggested. Had 6 pages unread on 986forum.com. I had one new entry "since 12:45 today." I was not on for a lot longer than that. 2-3 days IIRC.
