  1. I have a 2004 cayenne turbo with air suspension and have noticed that my compressor is starting to get really load but no errors on dash yet. I was going to inspect the system and had a question regarding what fills the system. I believe it is just air but I came across posts regarding the air suspension filled with nitrogen. Is nitrogen just used in the later model cayennes.
  2. I had my indy look at it and they confirmed that it is the power steering pump that is leaking. I am thinking of taking on the replacement and know that it comes out through the drivers side wheel well but wanted to see if anyone has any advice or tips on the replacement. One issue that I think I will have is getting the upper intercooler hose off on the drivers side to get more room to the pump from the front as getting access to one of the upper intercooler pipe bolts is very difficult because of the plastic coolant line that is above it. I though I might be able to reach the bolt by taking the headlight out but it is very difficult to reach. Do I need to take the bumper off to get to it.
  3. I have a 2004 cayenne turbo and have been finding quite a bit of oil buildup on the drivers side ending up around the ac compressor and lower intercooler hose, coming from above. I cleaned the area up and do see an area that starts to look wet around what looks like a drain plug screw on the power steering pump, which is in front of the bent metal tube that the reservoir hose attaches to. I do not think it is coming from the valve cover gasket as I had those replaced about a year ago and that area looks dry. I have noted some power steering fluid loss in the reservoir but not significant. Can the power steering pump commonly leak in this area on a cayenne. My search yields complaints of leaks around the rack as being common but this is not what I am noticing.
  4. I have a 2004 cayenne turbo with air suspension and need to replace some worn front suspensions parts. I am likely going with replacing the lower control arm and tie rod with the upgraded turbo S version. I was curious on people opinions of the Powerflex polyurethane bushings and if anyone has experience on using them on a cayenne. Also I have found that eurowise sells adjustable spherical end links for the sway bar as upgrades to the oem ones and hoping to hear from anyone with experience with these. Should I just ignore this aftermarket products and stick to OEM.
  5. I have just finished up replacing my front passenger side window regulator as the cable in my original one snapped and thankfully after the window was already fully up. I replaced the regulator with a brand named Magneti Marelli AC1642 from fcpeuro which was listed as OEM brand. The window works but it now only rolls down 2/3 of the way and then stops. Is there a reprogramming of the window that needs to be done or could there be something wrong with the regulator that I installed or something else I need to do to adjust it.
  6. I am going to remove the MAF sensor to check them but would appreciate any recommendation on how to pull the MAF housing off from the plastic connecting tube that goes to the turbos without breaking the accordion section when trying to pull up on it as last time I tried to remove them, it was very difficult to separate it. Is there something I can spray around the connection to loosen it up and ease it removal.
  7. After a long time of trying to sort out my drive ability issues with my evom tune, I decided to clean both MAF with CRC mass air flow cleaner and the car ran great for a day or two then started to get sluggish again under hard acceleration. Is it possible that my MAF could be going bad but not bad enough to set off a CEL. Of note, I did not take the MAF out when I cleaned then and just sprayed the sensors while in place which I know is not the recommended way to do it.
  8. As another update, I ran a new power and ground wire to the sensor and it got the light activation portion of it working again. I will need to check the rain sensor portion but got the codes to finally clear.
  9. As an update, I have been able to narrow down the problem that there is no power going to the sensor from the Wire at the fuse box. The other wire at the fuse block is live but it is not getting to the sensor. Does anyone know where the harness for the rain sensor and mirror travels. Is it down the A pillar on the driver's side?
  10. I have a 2004 cayenne turbo and recently been having issues with my automatic lights. When I put the headlight switch to automatic, the headlights always come on, even in daylight. I ran a check on piwis and durametric and get the 1520 error for the rain/light sensor. I have cleared the error and it comes back as soon as the light switch is turned back on. I found a used rain/light sensor which I installed and still have the same problem. I also disconnected the sensor and turned the lights to the automatic setting and they come on without the sensor connected which I am not sure if that would happen anyway. I guess it is possible that the used sensor I got could also be bad. Is there a way to do a resistance check on the sensor. Are there other components in the system I should be checking as well. I did check the fuse and it is fine.
  11. For those that have had to replace their kessy module, does it just require using piwis and using the option control module replacement and read the existing module info and then writing it to the new module. Does all the information regarding my keys also get transferred over or do you also have to program the keys separately to the new module.
  12. Attached is a picture of the plug I found next to the rear convenience module behind the right trunk panel. To anyone that has the OEM tow system, does this look like the OEM harness plug that goes to the trailer hitch module.
  13. I would like to add that I removed the trunk panels to replace my rear convivence module and I found a red plug wrapped in foam in the area that would be the place for the pre hitch wiring. Even though my build sticker did not have the ID8 code, could this be the plug that goes into the tow hitch module or is it for something else. I read on one installation manual that they describe it as green. I would appreciate any who has done this installation with the pre hitch wiring, what color was the plug that you found.
  14. For anyone who is interested, I found the answer to my own question if you read link below. Earlier model cayennes had gateway built into the instrument cluster and not a separate unit unlike later models. Instrument Cluster Upgrade - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums RENNLIST.COM Cayenne 955-957 2003-2010 - Instrument Cluster Upgrade - Debating about upgrading my instrument cluster to the 2010 turbo has anyone done...
  15. I have a 2004 cayenne turbo and trying to find the location of the gateway module. I saw some workshop manuals which say it is located behind the glove box but I removed the lower black panel and looked behind the glovebox and do not see anything. Is there another place I should be looking.
  16. I have a 2004 cayenne turbo that was not pre-wired like later models. Has anyone ran the needed wires to connect to CAN system and fuse box and if you would have any guidance or wiring guide to do so.
  17. If it were to be a compression issue, would it result in an engine rebuild or are the other potential ways to fix it.
  18. I have a 2004 cayenne turbo and was recently noticing a rumbling in the car at idle. After ruling out motor mounts, I eventually had a CEL pop up as p0308 for cylinder 8 misfire and p0300 for multiple random misfires. I check durametric and found that I was getting misfires happening in cylinder 8 while the car was idling but when I would press the accelerator it did not seem to increase the misfire counter. I replaced the coils a few years ago and went ahead and check them all again and did not see anything wrong or cracks. I also change all the spark plugs at the same time. To rule out a coil, I moved the coil pack from cylinder 8 to 5. After all this, I started getting the cylinder 8 misfire code again. What should I be looking for next, fuel injector issue, bad wiring, compression problems in that cylinder. The valve cover gaskets were also replaced a few months ago for leaks. What does it point to that misfires seem mostly to occur with idling.
  19. I have a 2003 cayenne turbo and suddenly have been having issues with the drivers side door locking mechanism. I have no errors when checking with durametric. My problem is that when I open the door, the lock actuator gets stuck at the first click and I am not able to close to door because it hits the metal lock and I have to use my finger to pull it back into its starting position while either pulling on the inner or outer door handle. When the door is closed, I am able to open to door with the inner or outer handle but cannot close it because of this issue. I went through the steps. I tried the fix as noted in the link below about adjusting the locking mechanism but it made no difference. When it push the lock through both clicks, the outer and inner handles will not pop it back into its starting position and I have to do it manual will pulling on of the handles. https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-diy/1069169-955-957-cayenne-diy-door-handle-s-inoperable-fix.html Could it be an electrical issue with the actuator and not mechanical since the handle will open the door?
  20. I have a 2004 cayenne turbo with tune and few mods. For the longest time I have had issues which felt like timing being pulled and surging under boost. I did all the usually things checking for vacumn and boost leaks, etc. and could not find anything. About 2 years ago I had replaced the battery with a duralast gold lead battery and over the past couple months started getting issues with the battery being dead when it was cold out and I assumed battery was going bad. Even before the battery was dying, I was getting the surging issues. Strangely, everytime I would reset the DME from disconnecting the battery or through durametric, the car would run great with smooth acceleration and no surging. Unfortunately, it would only last for about 10 minutes and surging would come back until DME was reset again. I just recently replaced my battery with a duralast AGM platinum and all those driving issues went away and I have not had a problem since. I know that the cayenne is sensitive to weak batteries and weird electrical things can happen, but am I correct to assume that when the car is running, everything is powered by the alternator and independent from the battery, unless the battery still plays a role in powering certain things? Could the electrical signals for timing, boost, fuel etc be impacted by a bad battery. Also isn't the OEM battery an AGM and could running a lead battery cause issues.
  21. I have a 2004 cayenne turbo with the option code 1K7 (rear disk brakes 17 inch red calipers) I was wondering if the larger rotors from the cayenne turbo s work with the caliper I have or is there a bigger caliper on the rear for the larger rotors on the turbo S. The porsche parts catalog lists different part numbers for the calipers for the turbo and turbo S so I assume that the calipers are different sizes or did porsche just use different part numbers for the same caliper but on different vehicles. My question is whether I can just install the larger rotors onto my existing calipers or would the upgrade (like the E81 powerkit) require other parts to make it work on my car.
  22. Hey loren, I actually figured it out on my 2003 cayenne turbo. I tapped into pin 10 on my headlight switch which is the illumination wire for the switch.
  23. I am installing a boost gauge and have found plenty of switch 12v fuses but cannot find one that only turns on with the lights on. I have one wire to the gauge that works as a dimmer. Anyone know where I could tap into a line that activates with exterior lights on.
  24. I was hoping someone may have tips on how to search for a parastic battery drain on a 2003 cayenne turbo. I know that it can be difficult with vehicles that have CANBUS systems. I have had our battery go dead after just after a few days of not driving the car multiple times and the current battery (duralast platinum) is only a year and a half old. I am going to test the battery to make sure that it is not bad already but I wanted to also see if I could search for some electrical system draining the battery. My wife frequently does not lock the car when parked in the garage. Could electrical systems be running if the you do not lock the doors after parking the car. I also have an aftermaket alpine headunit and replaced all the interior lights with LED's.
  25. I have a 2003 cayenne turbo that developed this sudden and intermittent coolant leak and hoping the wisdom of the forum members can give me some advice. The vehicle had the aluminum coolant pipes and replacement T pipes placed about 4 years ago. I replaced the coolant reservoir cap with part 1J0121321B about 2 years ago. My coolant reservoir is 7L0121407C which I am assuming is the original reservoir given the part number starting with 7L0. This last week, I took a couple long trips on the highway in 80 degree weather and upon arriving home today after a 3 hour drive, as soon as I got out of the car there was a sudden pouring of coolant from the behind the passenger wheel well. I went to remove the coolant reservoir cap and depressurizing the system seem to get it to slow down and stop but I did also notice a sudden drop in the coolant level in the reservoir. I filled the reservoir up and took it for another drive later in the day with the car at operating temperature and when I stopped the car again, some fluid at a slower rate started dripping again from behind the passenger wheel well, stopping by removing the reservoir valve. On both occasions, I looked under to hood and around all the reservoir hose connections and top of reservoir around its seal and did not see any obvious leaking or wetness. After doing some research on this forum, it has been suggested that it could be a bad reservoir cap or leaking reservoir. Could it be leaking on the underside of the reservoir that I cannot visualize or are there other coolant parts in this area that could be leaking when the car is shut off. I do not see any leaking with the car is running and the coolant gauge remains at the middle which I would guess means the water pump is fine. If it just needs a reservoir replacement, I can easily do that but don't want to just throw parts at fixing it if unsure of the problem.
