  1. Acting stupisd here, so sorry, but are the spaces for looks only or do they have a performance effect?? many thanks Russ
  2. Thanks Nick, Appriciate the feedback. In that case, does anyone know of anyone in the UK that has a PST2?? Many thanks
  3. Thanks Guys, appriciate the help. One thing you maybe able to settle my nerve on, I spoke to a number of dealer about switching the option on in the computer, and they said that yep no problems............providing it coasts first time (I guess they mean works first time). Has there been any problems with doing the mod, getting it turned on at the dealers, and it not working?? many thanks Russ
  4. hi, I have heard that it is possible to fit the cruise control to your boxster after market. Can some one confirm that this is correct? I have a 00MY Boxster S (so I presume it has EGas), and I have a chance of buying a four level stalk for only £75. Is this all I would need to carry out the modification (as well as lots of wire!!!) Any help would be very much appreciated. Many thanks
  5. Any help on this guys?? PLEASE, PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE
  6. I agree, No matter what people say, Porsches are one of the leading designers in cars that last a lifetime. They just go on on on. I have a Boxster S and have nearly 100k on the clock, there is a design fault with the boxster S big end bearings that causes the engine to fail at around the 95k mark, yet because my car has been maintained requarlly, it is showing no signs of major bangs, click, knocks etc, and just keeps going. I LOVE PORSCHES......I was fortunately (or stupid) enough to have a Porsche Boxster as my first car, now on my third one, I just cant and will not turn my back on them. Lovely!!!
  7. Hey Toby, Many thanks for you reply. All 4 of my CV boots have broken, mainly cause I have left it so long since the first one broke which I know is a very very stupid and I should have don’t them immediately. Anyhow, I am now geared up to changing them all. I am a fully qualified mechanic and degree qualified engineer so the job is not to difficult for me, But while I am carrying out the job, I was wonder if there are any other items that may as well be changed while at it. My car as done 95k (Boxster S) so I can imagine the change of some bushes might be recommended. Any input guys will be very helpful. Many thanks Russ
  8. Hi All, Im getting everything I need together to take on the job of replacing all four of my CV boots and though, ehat else can be done. Is there anything else while I have alot of the suspension disassembled that I can/should/you recommend replacing, such as bushes, etc. Let me know what you advise so I can put them on order. many thanks Russ
  9. Hi Johny, Yup I completely agree, But you can create the 555 timer circuit to be completely flip flop so there is no way of getting up and down activation simultaniously. Also, you can IC filter it to prevent premature activation. I would be interested in reviewing your design if you have any left? Russ
  10. ok, My bad Will post a bit more detail on diffusers shortly
  11. hi Chris, No mate, was not directed at you at all, is was more directed at these comments "Sorry, but is this a joke..? (remember I'm a foreigner, so I wouldn't know if someone's pulling my leg)" happy new year to you too, and all on RennTech
  12. Ok, Im am just running a CFD model of Bernoulli to help this thread. Just to add a note, the addition of the boxster diffuser do not work the way proper diffusers work, however, they should have an effect on the aerodynamics. With out seeing data, I would say that they "may" induce a Vortex pair, that will be further energised by the high energy exhaust gas flow. What benefits would this have.........it will improve the efficiency over the rear lift wing and lessen the wake......resulting in less drag. Porsche would not just add this for the sake of looks, for the simple reason that is an extra complexity in the mold tool of the bumper, thus increasing manufacturing costs. If that diffuser was not there....would you not buy a boxster......Of course you would so its not just a styling tool to make you buy it. Im not saying the diffuser has a dramatic effect, and with out seeing data o one can answer its effect, we can only assume, but it will have some effect to the rear wake Russ
  13. Hi Loren, Nice link, this gives a nice outlay of the Bernoulli effect. If anyone wants to get even more in-depth in this subject, try buying some fluid dynamic or aeronautical books off ebay or Amazon, the Bernoulli effect is a very very deep subject and the mathematics behind the highly complex applications an become quite serious. I am a CFD/Aerodynamics engineer and used work in the race world so if you want some CFD images posted on this thread of a simple Bernoulli application (simple venturi or something) let me know. Russ
  14. I did not say that the Boxster diffuser are actually diffusers, I agree with you that these are for looks only, was simply stating how diffusers work. So before you start slating people on forums, ask politely first Russ
  15. Also, just wanted to add, the picture posted by Chris_in_HN, shows a great example of a diffuser, but they is alot more complexity to that design than you think. For instance, the exhausts are positioned there for a diffuser related aerodynamic reason.
  16. The diffuser work by using a phenomena called the Bernoulli effect, this is increase by taking advantage of ground effect also. Basically, think of the old SU style carburettors that had a venturi. This venturi uses Bernoulli effect to increase the air speed through the Carb's, thus lowering the pressure and drawing the fuel trough the fuel jet. This is the same principle as a under body diffuser. The sudden increase in cross sectional area at the diffuser causes the airspeed to increase the so lowering pressure. it all comes to the simplified form of the Continuity Equation which states, (P1.V1)/A1 = (P2.V2)/A2 This is the basics of the diffuser and what most people know of it. However, as an aerodynamic engineer, you would also know that a diffuser does a whole lot more. The flow pattern over the car and rear wake changes completely, as well as increasing the efficiency of a rear wing application. hope this helps many thanks Russ
  17. Hi Guys, hope you dont mind me adding to this. this is actually a very simple circuit to make. You can do it using a 555 timer circuit on both the open and close lines on the switch. This simple keeps the switch on for around 13 - 15 seconds after touching the switch once, very very simple. Also, if you need to service the engine, you simple press the button once, and turn off the ignition ocne the top if at the service position which automatically stops power to the top. I can send you the circuit if you need it. They is a more clever device that I am currently writing code for using a pic, this will read the speed to prevent opening at over 40mph. But even more cool, I am tapping in to the remote windows, so when you press and hold the remote control (key fob) to close the windows, it also closes the roof remotely. If you are interested in this let me know and I will post out either the pic alone or the circuit if you want it for the costs of just materials and postage. I have to finish it first though. many thanks Russ
  18. Thanks guys, Out of interest though, can you bolt the later rear bumper (2003) with the under diffuser splits straight on?? many thanks Russ
  19. Hi All, I had someone crash in to the back of my boxster last week, and it requires a new rear bumper, new exhaust, and new front bumper. I am able to choice an set I want as long as pricing is similar. What do you know that fits and looks really really good from the wide range of rear bumpers, exhaust and maybe 911 front bumper porsche do. Any comments will be a great help many thanks for your input in advance guys Russ
  20. hey Tool Pants, Yes mine is a manual, but im not to bothered about the gear light, I will replace the dial faces with my white ones anyway (although I dont havw the 2 outer ones!!) So ignoring the gear light, this should work fine yes, the LCD and everything?? the part number of it is the one I gave above many thanks Russ
  21. hey Tool Pant, this is the unit I want to fit to my 99 (my00) boxster S
  22. Hey Tool pants, cheers for your reply. The picture of the new ones I am looking at buying seem to have the same dials as mine, the only difference is they look like they have the newer style LCD (bigger) and also they have the battery and oil pressure dials as addition. would the dials work (other than the battery and oil pressure dials which I would have to buy part for to send information) Let me know many thanks Russ
  23. No mate, thats what im asking, Im looking for some clear needles for my dials. When I find some I am planning on twaeking the light so when max rev's are hit they light up blue (like the new Noble sports car) Does anyone have any idea if and where I can get clear needles from many thanks
  24. Is it possible to fit a 996.641.108.01 dial set on to a 1999 (MY2000) Boxster S that does not have the new style LCD? Many thanks Russ
  25. Hey Guys, Anyone got any idea on this?? many thanks Russ
