  1. A quick question - how do I remove a front seat in the MY99 996
  2. Hey all The top dudes at Autostrasse have fixed it! :D The guys replaced faulty radiator cap (£10.65) then they fixed the offside radiator resistor pack which needed replacement (£51.52) then there ran it for a bit and there was still clouds of steam then they found the reservoir had a leak, so I got a spanky new one (now with an overflow pipe) (£145.94)!! (I know, I know, you all told me so!!!) so, phew my fears of a bust engine were unfounded... Thanks everyone for all your help and interest Mark PS. The AA added water, autostrasse added anti-freeze, so whats the issue with not using the right coolant? Anyway my next question :P is I want to put on a sports exhaust, something throaty like the PSE only cheaper.. Fabspeed? Janspeed? any suggestions anyone?
  3. The oil seems clear on the dipstick, cant check coolent easily. Autostrasse are looking at it tomorrow so the truth will be reveiled!
  4. Thanks all, a couple of points in response to 1999Porsche911: Actually I get coolant blowout only above 91'C ie when the thermostat is open, there are no symptoms when the engine is colder. to phillipj: I have always (since 2001) had a little "pancake batter" or "mayo" in the oil refill tube, your comment - "she is dead" - means what? - new gasket?, piston linings?, engine? car? anyway I'll check for intermix....
  5. Hi Have owned car for 8 trouble free years. Last Saturday I noticed there was coolant leaking by the cap when i was topping up the oil. By the time I got home there was a huge and dramatic cloud of steam. I called out the AA, they tested the cap (was blowing at right pressure). Topped up coolant, They plugged in the diagnostics, everything was fine, until the temp got to 91'C (when the thermostat opened?) then it started to blow out again. Hope its something cheap and simple (yer right!) , but surely its blowing thru the head gasket or similar. Engine has always had a little mayo in oil pipe but i thought it was condensation. What do you all think? any tips on getting it fixed? What do I ask <_< :renntech: Mark
  6. Funny you should say that, thre is some history to this. The car rolled off the handbrake, then went 5meters into a post.. I had complained to the dealer... nowadays I park it in gear
  7. Thanks, if I get the radio out can I route the telephone output through the speakers, add mute, get power, add ipod input... via the socket at the back of the unit? Is there a desciption of the pin layout pls? also there are many references to other articles in the forum eg. "How to remove the radio", are these listed somewhere Mark
  8. Crickey that looks the business, I'll go and have a look.... (some time later...) i dont seem to have it how do I get powered up? also how do I get the radio out?
  9. Help! I am fitting a nokia phone kit in my 996 my99, everything is fine except where is the best place to pick up switched nd unswitched power? photo would help!! thanks mark
  10. I just drove a boxster that had footwell lights, whats the part numbers for these which will fit my c4?
  11. My handbrake sticks, well the brakes stick. Are these the rear disks or inboard? Any tips, just had a service and the rear brakes didnt need replacement although they are heavily scored. the porsche dealer said that was normal.
  12. My 996 C4 MY99 has a original sound system with a second set of controls (just above the bat wings) for adding hall, pop etc, I can setup 3 different configurations. What is this exactly, I assume this isnt the same as the bose option? ive not been very impressed, except for the features to make louder automatically
  13. I love my silver 996, but I think the "fried egg" lights are the weakest feature. I have an idea, an improvement on those stick-on light surrounds you see on ebay. What do others think, of a perferated vinyl in body colour covering the whole of the fried egg cluster except the main light. But the indicator would still work (see through perferations) I suppose I have to get a template and find a supplier... what do you'll think.
  14. :cursing: Got same problem on my 99C4 @ 34000mls, what can I do? How do I open airbox, what do I do when I have?
  15. Talking to my OPD they consulted Porsche Technical and were willing to fit the PSE without any wirings or even the 30-40kpm quiet mode.. worth talking to them but it was still not a cheap option...
  16. I have a 99C4 with a front 6 CD changer. I have same problem
  17. You said what are these litronics? harness? beam directions? Also did you mean the dealer left it on the loud setting and still pass the MOT? I went to my OPD today and they are going to talk to Porsche about fitting a PSE without any valve gear. Perhaps a 3rd party exhaust is calling me....
  18. Emailed Das Shild and got a reply: "Mark, Thank you for your interest in our liners. We are currently shipping parts from Switzerland. Total S&H is $65.(US) You may order on-line if you agree to the additional $40. charge for S&H. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance, and thank you for your inquery. Sincerely, Corrie L Customer Service" Does this mean the liner is made in Switzerland I wonder?
  19. I am also thinking of getting a PSE for my MY99 C4 but still trying to get to the bottom of this whole setup. The PSE is put into "quiet" mode at certain speeds or rpm? With the switch installed in the cab can this be overridden or is that fixed? Is the PSE UK street legal if the switch is not installed, or will I find the car failing the yearly MOT on noise levels? I am torn between getting the Porsche PSE full set (£2K) or half a PSE (£1100) or a third party kit (£900). At the moment I think the PSE half setup is the best.
  20. I remember many moons ago seeing an advert selling a plastic skin which fitted to the underside of the bonnet/hood to protect it when you closed it from any extruding luggage striking the outer skin. Has anyone tried one of these? any opinions?
  21. You got a really good deal at £1100 incl. fitting, my OPD has quoted hardware £1019+VAT plus fitting £620+VAT giving the grand total of £1925 :( Was your deal repeatable?
  22. I didnt realise that I would need to new fenders (we call them "wings" here in the UK; mainly because on old Uk cars the winter salting would rust them so much they would flap around when driving...) Perhaps I will wait for the whole hog and to do the 997 upgrade?
