  1. When cut of no warning light on the display? When my alternator was gone almost the same. Battery low because no charging. I saw the warning on the display. But when batterie almost dead and alternator not working. My car stopped driving after some hundred meters.
  2. Congrats. Free electricity for the next years. I hope!!! I remember you give your ViN to be shure to get the right replacement part. how possible you got a part which needed to be modified to fit? if it happens to me i would be lost with this extra work. if there is time, please could you explain how you changed this upper control arms.
  3. I can post a succesfull repair as you read i changed and tried a lot to find out why this car is running so bad. Yesterday again all plugs new, checked the coils which are almost new. Changed the new MAF for the old again because thinking there could be a problem. Replaced the venturi tube. All in all nothing did improve the bad bad running engine. looking arround all the small tubes and hoses i found suddenly a small hose which hang arround. Close to the intake manifold close to the firewall. Its wasnt connected. Slipped from a valve because i was split in the end. Connected and. Wow. The Turbo is back. From the very beginning a smoother idle and a almost flueless accelaration. Testdrive. Changed again for the new MAF. Testdrive. German Autobahn without speed limit. Wow. Looks like i found the 200 missing horsepower. The car runs very good. Fingers crossed!!! thanks to lewis which constantly pointed me to a vacuum leak. For me a new lesson. what difference a single small tube can make which is not connected.
  4. Well done!!! Hope your hands dont have to much scratches because of this tight job
  5. Here is a nice DIY lesson from pelican. please pay attention to figure 17. is it possible to mess up something with the trigger wheel when changing the gasket and if yes what could be the result? http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Porsche-Cayenne/40-ENGINE-Valve_Cover_Gasket_Replacement/40-ENGINE-Valve_Cover_Gasket_Replacement.htm
  6. This is acctually a very good offer. I payed for a remanufatured from DELPHI arround 350 Euro and this was even very low comparing what Porsche is asking for
  7. Onother question regarding coils. i have about 24 pieces at home. Some are used some are "new", lets say not used. what i a wondering , is a coil only faulty if its cracked or can be there other problems which are not visibel? some have a green label with the part number. Some have the part number engraved into the plastic and some dont have anything. Just some kind of code in front. See pics. How to know which version is this?!
  8. Came back from my trip to france. Dont want to experience this again. The car was running quiet bad and i was really worried it could become even worse. Running like crap. No power. Rough running. Idle floating from time to time. Checked the coils - found one cracked. replaced one. now at home i changed all. same engine behaviour. MAF are new. Engine running i disconnected the MAF and to my surprise the same. What the hell is this. Dont have a piwis or durametric Check with my OBD scanning device. Please find the readings. Maybe the pros here have a idea whats going on. I am very worried its a timing issue. what i need to say, the car is showing this behaviour since my indy changed the valve cover gasket and later on the small round seal at the top which is the cam actuator solenoid i believe. What could went wrong during such a job which is causing this problems. thanks a million for your input sorry but i dont know why some pics are upside down
  9. Just can tell you what my mechanic told me when he changed mine: hope you dont come again with such a job. need hands like a child because its tight. Some recommand to take away all front to get access. He just take away the right wheel and the whell well liner. Took him about 5 hours the job.
  10. Actually i have codes which point to camshaft sensors. The shop changed thm already but the codes stay. Not a good sign. Maybe a timing problem or this solenoid we talked above. That is what i mean "everybody can be glad to have a shop which is looking little bit ahead of things" mine doesnt. The had the valve cover i off. Not enough they didnt fix it proper. They know about the camshaft codes but they didnt have the wish to check the solenoid while working there.
  11. Can you test this camshaft adjuster which you see now in front of you? How find out if this is working proper?
  12. But we dont have a choice Mark or i missed something?
  13. Yes in some way. In the same time i can say they last minimum 4 years in the car, which is not bad. Plus i had / have this problem with the overheating. Everything from plastik, all this lines and tubes etc. having a hard life. Imagine this temperature floatings in this engine compartment.
  14. everybody loves his porsche. Dosnt matter how old and how much trouble. But there is always a border where the fun to drive this cars is changing to frustration. I guy which i know from the porsche service where i go usual has the 3. engine in this 997. talk with him and you know what i mean
  15. I reset already. Will see if it comes back. lesson for me:. Never drive far away without with big box of tools, code reader, coils etc. Oh what a car. The french man was right today
  16. Dont even know how old the coils are. I have the car now 4 years. I didnt change them. I just check them from time to time.
  17. I carry 2 coils with me. Thanks god. I changed them and the car is running fine. Just drove to the beach and back. But now which surprise. Check engine light is on. Grrrrrrrrr. Code 2187 and 2189 which means to lean at idle. Get crazy. I hope you have found the source of your problem. Part 13 i just changed last week because the membrane inside was not ok
  18. Could not stop thinking about if i did something wrong during my weekend repair. i thought ok lets check the coils again. Car in front of our holiday destination in Cannes. Open hood. French people which passed the way: "porsche which has problems" somebody asked . For shure they are thinking what is this german doing here with his car. First coil bank one, voila
  19. So the update on this story was: they fixed the valve cover gasket in the right way, but they didnt fix the small gasket on this small valve which is sitting in front on top od the valve cover. Now its done. Maybe i am wrong but the loss of power situation i have came almost at the same time. Would somebody tell me what this part is. # 21 on the picture i guess. Is it the camshaft actuator? What is this part doing? Could the do something wrong there? Thank you
  20. On the highway to france. Car is not running nice. Feels not smooth. no power. Very bad fuel economy even while i am driving slowly. But this has nothing to do with the new DV. Was the same before
  21. I like to work with cars but in the end they have to drive perfect. I cant tell this from my turbo. At least i drained the intercooler hose. I will drive to france tonight. I hope there will be no bad surprises. The other DV i did not check. Because this side did not have any oil . Just replaced the MAF now. The hose you mention- last pic in my post- looks really a bit worn out. But its saturday. Shops closed. Couldnt get new one. I will see how the PIG is driving tonight
  22. Looks like the part which i disconnect is still working. So my work today was to no avail.
