  1. I'm jealous : 1. you bought a brand new 997 C4S . It failed to excite you, so you sold it after 6 months 2. then you bought a new Z06 , which you loved . But , you sold it after a few months anyway. 3. Then , just for the heck of it , you go out and get a 997 S , even though :" it is neither as controlled as your previous C4 S , nor does it put a grin on your face, like the 'vette ......"but you still like it better than any other car because it feels lighter and more alive and it suits you fine.... but it still is not as exciting as the 'vette .... but you think a GT-3 would be better if you would track the car ,except you did not buy it because you don't plan on tracking it.... You must have ordered each new car after driving the previous one for just a few weeks. If I were to buy a new car every time the ashtray was full , my wife would have a serious discussion with me . Lol
  2. (from Porsche.com.usa ) Noth American sales for 2007 Cayenne : 13,370 911 ( all variants ) : 13,153 Boxter : 10,153 Cayman : 6,249
  3. I filled the hose from the resonator with silicone mold material . It stays put , but can be removed anytime since it does not bond to the rubber . You can also just buy a rubber plug in a Hardware store. Just insert it deep enough to allow the hose end to fit over the resonator outlet . The elbow in the hose will prevent it from going any further ,but also, since the resonator is a closed box , it won't get sucked into the intake since there is never any pressure on it .
  4. Roof racks Bike carriers ski carriers Sunglasses Watches Bicycles Skis Golf clubs Luggage Model Cars Keychains Hats Shirts Jackets Pullovers Blankets Beach towels ....... need more ? Lol
  5. If you want to remove the center caps (with the wheel on the car ) take a heavy piece of wire( coat hook ) and spread the ends apart approx. the width of the two holes in the cap. Then with a pair of pliers bend each end ~ 1/4 inch long , 90 degrees. Insert the ends into the holes and pull the cap off . (or you can buy the "special" tool from Porsche for about a weeks salary . lol )
  6. Looks like you do more stopping than going . Lol My 997 S averages ~ 19.5 mpg in light traffic.
  7. I installed the OEM Porsche 5mm spacers a while ago. I paid $200 for the 4 spacers and another ~$90 for the screws and longer wheel bolts. Four bolts are the locking type and the socket was included in the price. It may look a little better? but I cannot honestly claim that I noticed anything different in driving the car .
  8. I was under the impression that the X-51 air box had TWO air intakes ? If so, it would not be a direct replacement for the stock 997 unit and would require a new engine hatch liner or cutting an additional hole into the existing one . I would also check if the air intake connection to the engine is larger than the std. 997's
  9. My 997 S manual states ( under starting procedures ) : ...When starting the engine, be ready to drive IMMEDIATELY.Drive the engine at moderate speeds and avoid speeds above 4200 rpm during the first five minutes. ..Do NOT let the engine idle to warm up.
  10. You can just disconnect the orange plug in the engine compartment to have the PSE on permanently , or you can interrupt the 12 volt power going to the solenoid by installing a switch . I installed a two pos.toggle switch in the ashtray . Pos. 1 : PSE functions per factory Pos. 2 : PSE is always on
  11. I had the same problem a few months after I got the car. It was the GPS antenna. It's under warranty , have the dealer fix it.
  12. The resonator is specifically designed for the 3.8 liter 997 S engine air intake only. It's purpose is to : 1. reduce cabin background noise in the higher frequency ranges 2. emphasize the sporty, load related air intake noise between 300 and 600 Hz. ( per Porsche "Technik" manual )
  13. Thanks Paul, put's my mind at ease. It is still quite a bit of oil burning though. My MB has about 50 k miles on it now and has never needed a drop so far. I had an air cooled Porsche a few years ago which used quite a bit, but I thought that the new water cooled engines would be a lot tighter .
  14. My tailpipes are not overly dirty, but I have been using 1/2 Qt . oil ~ every 1000 miles ( 997 S ) since new . I now have ~ 7500 mi. on the car and it has been pretty constant. According to service dept. that's normal . Is it ? anything to be concerned about ?
  15. 1. The car should be level 2. I don't have aproblem getting underneath to change the oil, without putting it on jacks.
  16. What exactly does it do ? Also, how difficult/easy is it to install ? Thanks.
  17. The panels are held in with small clips. Pull them out towards you but be careful because you can break the clips on the trim piece of you dont pull it out straight enough. After that you've got 4 5mm allen locking tabs and one 7mm set screw. I did finally succeed a while ago. Thank you for your reply .
  18. Here is a picture showing the PSE mufflers. Note the bypass pipe with the shut off valve in it .
  19. Here is a cutaway view of the muffler. The bottom is the inlet, the middle is the outlet. If you connect a pipe from the top (capped) outlet and connect it to the middle pipe, you have in effect created a PSE muffler ( it bypasses the middle chamber , that's why it is louder ) Also, since the exhaust only goes thru ~1/2 of the muffler , there should be less resistance, therefore a few HP gained , although Porsche does not claim any. Good luck .
  20. I never experienced this condition in my 997 S. Rather than have amateurs second guess possible causes on a web site , my car would have been at the dealer this morning .
  21. Sorry I can't help you , but I do wish you success and let us know how you are doing . I will be one of your first customers.
  22. I got the small carpeted panels on the side off. Each is held in place with one T-25 screw. Then there were two screws ( T-20 ) visible at each side panel , which I also removed. But the panels will not come off . Does anyone know how to remove them ? Any help is appreciated . Thanks.
  23. I need to get to the back of the radio . Does someone have step by step instructions on how to remove the PCM and center console? ( Hopefully with pictures ) Any help is appreciated, thank you.
  24. You can get the screens from Performance Products. They come in black or silver and cost $300 for the set. Hope this helps .
