  1. That's the outside air thermometer to tell you what the temperature is that you read on your OBC. :clapping: No wonder I had no idea what it was, OBC isn't turned on in mine! Thanks! it would help if you have a pic but there something you could pull to access the fuel tank manually
  2. it could be oil blockage or it could be lifter noise just take it some where and check the car
  3. my mechanic is doing all the work but I just to know how much the whole thing cost and will the tip handel the 3.2 engine.
  4. Hello there I have 97 986 with 83700 mile and tip transsy I am doing 3.2 conversion and I Need to know all parts that I need ( the major one) and how many hours to complete the conversion. if you guys know how much the conversion cost that would be great. Fly wheel is not coming from the engine and the torque converter is also is not coming out so I would have to buy a new one. I also want to now if my tiptronic transsy with 30 k mile would handle the torque and what modification need to be done to it.
  5. Hi there I have posted the same topic before go and check if the sound comes from your car sounds like mine.and does the noise increase when you press on the gas. if you have the same problem as mine then its your engine . I think its gone and you would have to get a new one. I REALLY HOPE ITS JUST MISFIRING CYLENDER OR LIFTER NOISE CAUSE A NEW ENGINE IS NOT CHEAP.
  6. would cost around 500-600 for the top and around 300-400 to install
  7. I think it will be less than 50 percent. I knew guys who had to change their engines few times. if you want your enigne to last long you are gona have to drive ur porsche like any normal car. no high speed runs no over taking. most 2.5 engines start knocking after 80k-140k.
  8. I would recommend you to get a extended warranty . They will charge you $1800 for 2 years and every garage visit you pay $100 only even if you car need a new transsy or engine. For me after I had my transsy replaced. I bought extended warranty. And guess what !!!!! 2 000 more and my engine is gone.
  9. you could buy one of ebay that about 90% as the one in the pic for about $220. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Boxster-Tur...sspagenameZWDVW
  10. I think there is this guy in ebay that would make you illuminated door sills for about $100 and you could wright anything you want with any font. I am pretty sure you could get the same font as the ome .
  11. take a look at the old post see if the problem been corverd before. if its the metalic sound when the car start then its normal.if its something else then you might have a problem with the starter. I don't know if I helped at all but all I know is that all boxster model make weried sound when its start(sometimes) and its been coverd in many posts.
  12. thats why I want to do it ASAP my last reading was last monday when my check engine light flashed I took the car to mechanic to check it. thats why I am good with anything more than 83000-85000 .if you guy know any one who would like to have the one that has 81000 and give me his +83k then I am fine with it.
  13. and if any one want to swap his with the one with one I have which is around 80000-81000 is welcome I need one with 830000-850000
  14. thanks tool pants do you know where can find that kind of service .I have found speedometer with 80000 and I want to set to 83000 cause last time I checked on porsche it was 82600.
  15. my whole speedometer and my cd player was stolen few days ago and I was woundering if I bought a used one would I be able to keep my orginal reading or is it going to be the same or is going to be different.cause if it is the same I will not look for used one that has milage from 83k-85k. please guys if you know about it let me know. boxster 97 tiptronic 82000
  16. Hey there for how much did you get the set?
  17. I think you should go for the boxster. just make sure you buy one with warranty. if it does not have warranty buy a extended one. If I were you .I would buy 97-99 for 14-15k and the spend the rest of the money on 3.4L 996 conversion.I think the 996 engine is alot better than the boxster 320hp in boxster thats mean 0-60 in less than 5s top speed of +180 mph . just make sure you buy one all the options.and check the car before you buy it.the most important thing is DO NOT BUY ONE WITH OUT WARRANT.
  18. hello there Just go to my post and see if the problem is the same. if it sound the same then ur engine is going bad.and it need to be replaced soon.
  19. thanks for the info. Here's what Im thinkin is the problem. After i had the problem, the car sat for almost a week and i drove it today. No problem at all for hrs. Then it started again. The last time i experienced these symptoms it was my clutch going bad in a 1988 honda accord. Same thing, third went first and so on. It's as though it is good for a few hrs, then starts to heat and slip. I'm getting it looked at tomorrow. thanks for you two that replied, i appreciate it. I'll keep ya posted. if i can afford internet after the repairs lol. thanks dave my car did the same . it runs fine but when it get heat it up to 180 the gear start to slip. I took my car to every porsche tech and they all told me the same thing. my transy is going bad and it need to be replaced . what you have to do now is stop driving the car and change the transy oil .this is not going to solve the problem but it is going make the car last longer before it start slipping. the cost of the transy oil change is 230.but I think you sould start looking for a used transy.
  20. sorry to hear ur problem . I think it is time for a new engine or it could be something like lifter . if you want to make sure post a sound file .however I think with 78K on the clock ,I think it is time for a new engine .
  21. Hi there can you please tell us which year and what is the milage on your car and it will be better if you could record the sound and post it here thank you .
  22. I think I will be going for the 3.4L engine. The only problem I could think off is the tiptronic transmission . Do you guys think it will be a problem with my transmission. Will it fit the new engine or not. I think cost of having my engine rebuilt will be vary close to upgrading my engine 3.4L and this is why I am doing it. I really don’t want to spend much money on the car cause I am buying a 996 4s or Merc CL55 ( I don’t now yet) So I want to do the swap with the least $$$$.
  23. what is the reman porsche engine. where can I get it. many thanks.
  24. My 2.5 engine is gone and I need to have it either rebuild or buy one from Porsche. I am thinking about 3.4 engine. Am I going to need a complete engine? Or is it just the motor? I have tipronic transy , is that going to be a problem? (if yes then what can I do about it) How much was the total cost for the swap? Where I can find the best deal on used 996 engine? Thank you all. 97 2.5 tiptronic US 80k mile
