  1. Check the pressure at the high pressure port. I recently overfilled my system and heard a really loud screech after the compressor built up pressure in the system. I think the noise was from a pressure relief valve. In any event, the noise went away after I removed some refrigerant.
  2. Check the TSB for approved wheels, tires and spacers. No problem with the rears with no spacers. The front setup is not approved, but I think I recall reading somewhere that 8.5s will fit up front, not sure about the offset. Also, I was recently advised by Loren that Porsche doesn't recommend spacers only in the front.
  3. Porsche does not recommend spacer on just the front or just on the back. You could do 5 mm all the way around or 5 mm front and 17 mm rear. Thanks Loren. I guess I will leave well enough alone. The 11s are plenty wide in the back as is.
  4. I put sport technos (18x8/50 front, 18x11/63 rear) on my 2001 C4, and I was wondering if I could add 5MM spacers to the front. The TSB does not list this as an option. Any thoughts?
  5. See http://www.renntech....stand-placement. There is some controversy over using the engine case to jack the rear. After I jack each side from the rear jack point, I put stands in the front and tire ramps under the rear tires. This gives me plenty of clearance to reach the suspension cross member (Bentley manual recommended jack point) with the jack from the rear. Then, I can insert the rear jack stands under the rear jack points, and remove the ramps, if necessary. It doesn't take any longer with the ramps, which I got on sale for $40.
  6. You could probably "recreate" the sticker, if it's still in one piece, with a high res camera and a laser jet printer.
  7. I have had my 2001 996 C4 for a little over a year (about 10K miles). RMS went two weeks after I bought it (warranty covered replacement). Since then no issues at all other than a loose screw causing a rattle in the passenger door panel. Great car, fun to drive, easy to work on for routine maintenance. Finding a nice one is half the fun. Drive several before you decide to buy, and as others have mentioned, get a PPI.
  8. I have had my 996 to Rocs twice: the first time to put on a ROW M030 suspension kit, and the second time to replace the front wheel bearings. Great work, fair price, car ready before promised. No worries.
  9. I live in NJ too, and use snow tires in the winter on my C4. As a general rule, however, I avoid wet salted roadways in the C4. I also put snows on our other cars, including a rear wheel drive CLK. IMHO, a rear wheel drive with snow tires performs better in the snow than a four wheel drive with all seasons. Snow tires also generate more road noise than summer tires.
  10. Lots of views, but no feedback; so I am updating myself. Acquired the Sport Technos with Michelins Pilot Sports. So far so good. Mounted with what appears to be sufficient clearance in the rear. I'll post more info following some road testing.
  11. I have read the TSB, which indicates that the rear fenders may need to be rolled, but I haven't seen any posts that indicated that rolling was actually necessary. So I am hoping to get some practical advice from anyone who has installed the Sport Technos on an MK1 996 with 295/30x18 tires in the rear. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
  12. I decided to give the Sprint Booster a try because some of the other "feel" mods I have done (997 Shifter, PSE mufflers) have made the car more fun for me to drive. I can now say the same about the Sprint Booster. In my experience, it makes a significant difference in how the car "feels" when driving it. To me, the car "feels" more responsive and more powerful. I happen to like this "feeling." In my testing, it was not possible to achieve the same "feeling" by mashing the pedal with the Sprint Booster in the off position. The medium acceleration position provides a noticeable "feeling" improvement over stock. I personally preferred the maximum acceleration position, which provides a "feeling" of more torque compared to the smoother medium position. Installation was a PITA, but not difficult. You have to contort yourself under the dash and work one handed, but it only takes a few minutes to install. I removed the air duct for better visibility and elbow room. Is it worth $289? In terms of the actual hardware, it seems way overpriced. The profit margin must be huge. On the other hand, I like the way it makes the car "feel" so I am keeping mine.
  13. Adding to the knowledge base. I ran a Durametric on my '01 996 C4 after a ROW M030 suspension kit install, and got the following faults for the Litronic HBA: Current Fault Codes 1:Engine path left 2:Engine path right 3:Axle-position sensor front 4:Axle-position sensor rear Inspected the front sensor and saw that part #21 was hanging. It must have gotten dislodged during the suspension install. I snapped it back into place, cleared the codes, and all is well again. Nothing in the Bentley Book on this. Glad I have this forum to rely on.
  14. That's my DIY. 6 months later: works great, no issues. Easy.
  15. I picked up a MY03 set of PSE mufflers with 31K miles. Almost new condition. Easy install with the DIY instructions. The mufflers I got came with tips, but the MY03 tips are too long and low for a MY01 IMHO. I ended up using some Tubi tips I picked up on ebay, which look great. The sound is, of course, perfect.
  16. I just got my car back with the ROW M030 kit installed. Exactly what I was hoping for in terms of handling and ride. Rear end sway is gone. Cornering is much improved. No appreciable difference in ride comfort. I actually think it's a little better now. It's a little lower, but you'd have to look for it to notice. Bottom line, excellent upgrade.
  17. The lowering is marginal ~20mm front, ~10mm rear. Should improve the stance, but nothing dramatic. I decided to outsource the install. Having it done this week, so I will have some real feedback shortly.
  18. Excellent upgrade. Exactly what I was hoping for in terms of handling and ride.
  19. In my car with the 6 speaker hifi setup, I am pretty sure the stock dash and rear speakers were 4 ohms, and the Alpine SPS 410s are also 4 ohms. The stock door speakers were 2 ohms, but I didn't find any 2 ohm speakers with the frequency response I was looking for. I am sure changing from 2 to 4 ohms creates some balance issues with less power going to the Pioneers than went to the stockers, but I use the equalizer on the new head unit to dial in the sound I like. The max volume is not ear drum crushing, but it's plenty loud for listening even with the windows down at highway speeds.
  20. I added the 997 shifter to my 2001 C4, terrific upgrade and an easy DIY. My car has about 51K miles, and the ride quality is quite good, but I wanted a little better handling (less roll), so I just got the ROW M030 sport suspension kit (springs, struts and sway bars). Based on the pricing I have seen, the whole kit doesn't cost much more than replacement shocks and the labor is essentially the same, so I decided to give it a go. I haven't installed it yet, but I'll let you know how it compares to stock after I get in installed.
  21. One more question (for now): Will I have any fitment issues if I want to reuse my stock MY01 tips? Thanks again.
  22. Does anyone know if a MY03 (3.6L) PSE will fit and perform properly on an MY01 (3.4L)? Thanks.
  23. The prices for these on ebay are not competitive. When I bought mine, Pelican had the best price. Very easy upgrade.
