  1. I've notice that the inside rim of the exhaust tips are faily sooty; is this normal or is any soot on the exhaust a sign that the engine is 'running too rich?' The soot is very black and dry and is primarily located on the fold between the inside of the tip and the outside chrome finish meet.
  2. '03 Cabriolet C2 wit 48,000 miles as a daily driver in Las Vegas. No probles beyond regular wear; replaced the clutch at 42,000 miles. August 6, 2007.....now have 53,000 miles; 'cats' replaced by dealer after check engine light. Sounded like pie tins humming/rattling from about 3,500 to 4,500 RPMs. Dealer mechanic originally diagnosed noise as predetination due to poor fuel. After six tanks of 100 octane noise persisted, then engine light came on, the car insisting that something was amis. The only other incidents involve plastic parts breaking: seat trim came off after fastnening cip broke, speed control stalk snapped, and the hinge for the fuel cap door. All covered by the dealer except the hinge. Still very much 'in-love' with this car!
  3. Orient Express....great post! I have one question though regarding the height of your stands. Do you know what the maximum stand height is? I am trying to decide if my current set of stands are too high, even when fully retracted to the lowest setting; they are also Sears brand, but rated at 6 tons (for a Ford F350).
  4. Thanks, I appreciate the answers. And yes, driving at speeds above 3.2k is a good idea; and really, really fun! My only complaint about owning a Porsche is all the other cars that are in my way.
  5. After several years of planning I have recently had the honor and fortune of purchasing a 2003 Cabriolet with a six speed transmission; I use the car primarily as a daily commuter. Being unfamiliar with what is 'typical' for Porsche behavior I am hoping someone can provide a bit of guidance. I have noticed that there is a sudden surge in power as the car moves through the 3,200 RPM range; it is most noticable while moving through the first and second gear. The dealer from which I purchased the car and an independent 'Porsche only' garage has opined that this is just the car, "moving into the Porsche power band." Is this true? Thank you.
