  1. Looks like he was guessing. The fuel vent valve is $118 at Porsche and is 1/2 hour job by somebody like me (not a mechanic). It is easy and obvious and it has been covered in previous posts. Sorry you were short-sheeted.
  2. This sounds like the problem I had with my 2001 C4. If so, it is the valve at the gas tank that is not opening. It is controlled by this part: 996-201-143-01 Fuel Vent. It was $118.96 at Albuquerque Porsche. This vent controls the flap down at the bottom of the filler pipe. It is quite easy to install. Remove the right front wheel and look up to the filler pipe on your left. Undo two bolts under the rubber gasket around the fill spout. Pull out the old unit and install the new unit making sure to include the dangling sensor about the size of a number 2 pencil and a couple of inches long in the same spot as before. Just to check it before you do, push about 30" of gas proof hose down into the tank. You should feel that valve and it will open if you push against. I drove back to Oregon from Houston with this issue. Temporarily, you can stick a screwdriver in the small opening behind the door flap hinge and it may release that valve. Irritating but cheap to fix.
  3. Thanks..... I figured it was a mistake, but you never know. There aren't any security nuts on the wheels, but there was the piece you need to remove security lugs in the side pocket when I bought the car. My guess is that HiLux2400 figured it out.
  4. Tightening all my lug nuts today (2001 996 C4) and every wheel had one lug that was not anywhere near the correct torque. It was low. The other 4 on each wheel were tight. Is this just sloppiness or is there some reason for it?
  5. Thanks again for the posts. I've had the Michelin Pilot Sports on an M3 and liked them. The Porsche dealer "Brand Ambassador" in Albuquerque recommended Contis and two sets - winter and summer. Still like the one, all purpose idea. A side comment: I went to 2 Porsche dealers (Albuquerque and Phoenix) and an Indie (Jones Autowerks in San Antonio) on my way back from Texas for different reasons and was impressed by each. Straightforward and easy to deal with. I expect it in my home town as a local, but as a traveler I never felt like I was getting short-sheeted. Wish I could say the same for most Land Rover or BMW dealers.
  6. Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I was unable to find a way to search this forum. I just bought a 2001 C4 with the M030 option and a 6 speed and I live in southern Oregon so we have heat, rain and some snow. From reading it seems to be the wisest idea to have two sets of wheels and tires - summer and winter - but I'd prefer to avoid that expense and just use one set of all season tires (probably Continentals) year round. How much will I be giving up with this approach. It will not be tracked, but I do like driving faster than I should - especially around corners. Will I give up significant braking distance. Thanks
