  1. all your spending is $3200? consider yourself lucky. I am rebuilding my engine also, I bought apr rod bolts on recommendation from lne as this is apprently another weak spot of the engine. apr publishes torque specs on their site. http://arp-bolts.com/kits/ARPkit-detail.php?RecordID=1203 click on kit instructions my new pistons from LNE came with ring instructions but I doubt that's universal. when I asked the other board about it, jake came in and said it's up to the engine builder really.
  2. Yet very few people even realize that and think his gouging them. they didn't do their homework!
  3. yes, looked into it. unfortunately, iirc, it was 25k out the door for me once shipping, currency exchange and insurance was involved
  4. oh yeah, I'll be one of the 1st to tell you that even jake's minimum pckg is a fantastic deal.
  5. thanks once again. the advice & tips are really appreciated. Y2K911 - I sent jake an email about a student of his in my area that was recommended to me by an air cooled Porsche builder in the area. Jakes response was that this person was a great student but wouldn't know of he's done the engine before... I'm thinking of taking his online course in Sept and then deciding if it's worth to spend another 2k in tools or just send it out
  6. just to make sure I understand. when you say +90 degrees... torque bolt to 15ftlbs, stop, then continue for an additional 90 degrees?
  7. so the carrier bolts by arp are $205....not bad. head bolts through arp.... $890 [emoji15] I think I'll stick with the porsche oe ones... $250 all torque/sequence specs (for these bolts) are on arp's site - fyi
  8. if it's the original clutch it could be a combination of things. in this case, an old clutch got some abuse it wasn't use to seeing and the the clutch wasn't able to take it.
  9. maybe take this one bolt at a time. bearing carrier case. any published specs there? I can start with that next week when I get everything back from the machine shop. can I reuse the bolts? I got apr rod bolts on LNE recommendation , but I want to know if I should get new bolts to reassemble the bearing carrier...I know going new should always be the answer but if I was to do that, I'd be spending over $2000 in bolts. that isn't a joke. if they aren't stretch bolts, I should be able to reuse some of these??
  10. after getting a lot of "yeah, I'll do it but have never done this kind of work before" to my question of can you re assemble my engine, I've decided that I am going to try putting my engine back together myself. I am going to enroll in jake's online course for September. does anyone here have the FActory Porsche repair/service manual that I could reference while rebuilding my engine?
  11. so the timing chains I see on pelican showing Porsche as the maker are just IWIS chains?
  12. buying more parts this week and was looking at pelican and the timing chains... is there a big difference between the IWIS chains and the porsche oe ones? we're talking about $200 vs $55 price difference per chain here. that's significant savings for me. especially when you need to buy 2 of those chains...
  13. I'm about $9k CDN in so far fixing my engine that had scored cylinders (1 of the other 20 reasons, lol). listen to this guy. save up for repairs. sucks less when you know the funds are there to fix whatever issue you will run into.
  14. page 2 (on tapatalk) show the heads when I pulled them. I didn't snap pics when they came back from the engine builder/cleaner. the heads vacuum tested "excellent" according to them and should be good to put back in. edit: just realized what youre asking. no, don't have any shots. need some?
  15. got the cases back from lne. time to start buying the rest of the parts..
  16. my cylinders are scored to hell and the car was driven in the winter on Ocassion (we can get to -40 celcius). I don't think that was my issue though. once I split the cases I saw the timing chain paddle plastic had broken off in peices, clogged my oil pick up and caused oil starvation. actually...maybe being started in the cold caused the plastic to break.....hmmmmm I bought the LNE thermostat to put in once I Re assemble. it's supposed to prevent this from what I've read.
  17. junked engines still sell for 2-3k. that's a lot of money.I haven't gotten my cases back from LN Engineering yet. they have 6-8 weeks turn around and my cases haven't even been there for 4 yet so it will not be until mid June until I get started on the Re assembly.
  18. very neat and detailed answer. thanks once again. I owe you a beer or 12.
  19. and you had me worried so I checked and the option to go from 3.6 to 4.0 is still on the site
  20. still looking for an answer. some, I can push down with a pencil (eraser end), others are pretty tough to do.
  21. I don't think so. maybe I'm one of the last?? I'd be curious if so....they have my deposit already, so I hope I am getting the 4.0. lol from what they told me, the porsche ECU is supposed to be able to compensate for the added displacement & my injectors are fine.
  22. that sucks man. looks like i was right with my 1st post. :( 15k for a properly rebuild motor is an amazing price. I took my motor out and disassembled myself and still sitting in the $10k range. I really love the car hence my decision to rebuild.
  23. the lifters....should I be able to push the inside "piston" with relative ease? I believe these are activated with VC+.
