  1. I own a 996 TT with a removable hardtop and am thinking of selling it. I dont see many of them around and am wondering if they are more valued than a traditional soft top convertible or not? I personally like the hardtop because I dont think soft tops look as good and can be a pain in the winter, but just wondering if there is really a difference in the demand out there and if I should factor it in the price?
  2. Full tank of fuel mixed with StaBil fuel stabilizer (run or drive the car for about 15 min. after adding the StaBil to get it circulated), air the tires up to around 40-45 PSIG, change the oil and filter, make sure the battery is full (distilled water), clean the car inside and out, put the car on a quality battery maintainer (Ctek), cover it with a dust cover and let it sit on the ground (you should never store one of these cars with the suspension hanging, very bad for the struts). Chock the wheels and leave the car in neural with the parking brake off. Have a safe deployment. Awesome reply, thank you very much, I really appreciate it. Doesn't sound like it will be too much fuss. Is there a certain motor oil thats preferred for the 996 TT? The oil was just changed at the dealership where I bought it a few weeks ago, not sure what kind of oil they used besides Mobil. It wasn't a Porsche dealership but instead a Land Rover/Jaguar. Hopefully the mechanics did their homework and put the right stuff in, I imagine they did but you never know.
  3. I have to go overseas for 6 months in Afghanistan and need to store my 2004 996 TT. I am curious what all I should do when storing for this long? I imagine I should drain out all the gas, but what about other fluids? Should I take the wheels off and put the car on jacks to avoid the tires from flatting out or hurting the suspension at all? Any fluids I should put in it? I am storing it in a garage with a cover however it won't be driven for that 6 months. Its a manual transmission. Thanks in advance.
  4. Good question, I would be interested to know as well. I have a 04 996 TT, do I need to make any mods to fit 19" tires on the car? I believe they are 18" tires right now. Will it affect performance at all?
  5. Is it worth buying some of the aftermarket cold air boxes or could the money be better spent elsewhere? Or how about buying the "performance" air filter for like $140?
  6. I have a buddy who is a mustang freak and owns a 2013 Mustang GT without any aftermarket upgrades. He has the "track pack" which he believes puts his "stang" right there with exotic sports cars. He thinks because his V8 has about the same HP as my 996 TT that it would beat it. I tried to tell him that it won't be close unless he gets a GT500 or adds some serious muscle to get it over 600hp and then hope he can keep the wheels from just spinning. I came here to see if any of you know more specs between the too. I have been trying to find the weight of the 2004 996 hard top cabriolet with TT because I know it has an aluminum frame and the engine is much lighter than the Ford V8 but can't seem to find the specs. The 2013 Ford Mustang GT weighs around 3800lbs I believe. What other specs would make a big difference between the two? I have AWD so the car sticks, my wheels are 18's and he has 19's which I would think might make mine quicker. I had an 09 BMW M3 before the 996 and it would beat his mustang and the 996 is much faster than the M3, especially once you are already cruising. I'm not impressed with the 996's start out of first but after that it's a rocket (manual). The worst are the Mustang owners who think they have a high end sports car because they can smoke the wheels and it's loud. I won't even race them when they try on the highway or whatever, it's not worth risking a life or a ticket for racing a big piece of plastic. Thanks in advance for any comparable specs.
  7. I just purchased a 2004 996 Turbo yesterday and one of the few complaints I have is the play in the gearbox and the design of the shifter in general. Does anyone else notice the same and what are some cost friendly upgrades/fixes?
  8. I literally just bought a 2004 996 Turbo yesterday with 50k miles. I was curious what type of additives are recommended to combine with fuel/oil/etc. I just went from a 2009 BMW M3 and a 2009 Audi S5 and without question the 04 996 Turbo is so much more fun to drive.
