How can I remove fuel filler cover?

Recommended Posts

You may have read on other forums that while cleaning the car I damaged the fuel filler cover on my new 997 C2S :( . The cover itself looks fine it's just that the spring assisted closing hinge/mechanism that has been affected. The cover is no longer restrained in the open position and when closed it's somewhat "floppy" and rattles. My OPC was reluctant to tackle the problem saying that it looks fine but I would like to get the problem sorted. It may be that the spring mechanism has become unseated but its difficult to see, hence my question:

How can I safely remove the fuel cover and hinge mechanism to allow a more detailed examination and hopefully rectify the problem?
