Basic question: No Roll Cage Option?

Hi Hombre..... I would guess that the 997 GT3 2+2 situation is the same as for the 996 GT3...and that is: No.. because it has no rear seats, no rear seat belts, and therefore is not DOT approved for rear seating. They would say that the factory did not intend passengers to sit in the back..and have not provided required restraints in the back...so, not DOT legal. In the 997 GT3, I don't know whether the unibody has, does not have the rear seat belt bolt bosses welded to the body under the carpeting.

As a matter of fact the rear seat belt bosses or how you call it, ie the connections for the seat belts are there in mine 04 996 GT3. I actually orderded the parts just a couple of days ago. Rear seats is al little more complicated. a metal support part for the hinges of foldable backrests is missing. I'am thinking of glueing those in (hi-tech 2-K metal glue) I know of at least one factory 2+2 GT3 (99, with normal seats in the front) in the Netherlands (ordered by the exclusive program)

Hi,

If you look at the carpet under the rear window you should see small breaks. You

would then get some tin snips and carefully cut the carpet. Under

neath the carpet are brackets welded to the frame. You can use these

as seat belt brackets.

As said above.... we still don't know if the 997 GT3 has the rear belt bosses welded onto the unibody (like the 996 GT3 does) or not.

Hi Craig,

The weld tabs are on my 997 S 2006.

I bet there are on a 997 GT-3. I feel that the only way they

would leave the tabs off is if they installed a factory roll bar cage.

Let me know what you find. I would love to buy a GT-3 Cup

car with sequential shift.

I talked to a dealer and you can order a GT-3 with a factory installed roll bar cage.

Paul - that surprises me. I expect that the roll cage is designed to be flush with the ceiling on a non-sunroof car. Since all the US GT3's will have a sunroof, I expect that the ceiling will be too low to fit the cage...

Hi,

I know for a fact that the porsche club president for

the denver region drives a GT-3 and lives in Boulder.

I would search the Porsche club of america site and hook up

with the racing division.

The guy with the GT-3 races in Time Trials in the Denver

area. You could drive over and check out his roll bar

cage.

so there is no way in the world you can have the roll cage and a sunroof either.. does the sunroof not slide within the roof?????

Cannot order a US car with Sunroof Delete!!! Means no factory roll bar either....dumb cement heads screw it up again, just like the RS which really is a BS deal, Oh I forgot....you get the single mass flywheel and pretty wheels!

The factory Roll bar can be ordered from Farnbacher Loles in Connecticut.
