03 996tt or 02 w aero? buying decisions...

I'm down to two 996tt's to choose between. Would love some input on any factors I might not think of having not owned one before. Prices are almost equal.. tricked out 02 or subtle 03?

Car1:

2002 6k miles

local (no transportation $)

black (favorite)

aero kit

full carbon kit

nav

dealer-installed chip + headers (not necc a plus)

Car2

2003 4k miles

~$1k transport cost

~$1k higher cost

silver (still nice, but no black)

aluminum small/aluminum gauges

warranty live until Jan 07

You see the dilemma... the price is pretty much equal. newer car w/ warranty v. tittied-out (that's a summary of black+aero+carbon) 02. I'm leaning towards the 03... seems like it would be a little more subtle, although I have convinced myself the black aero would be worth the attention. I'm not hell-bent on nav, but I much prefer the look of the interior with it as a whole - looks incomplete to me without it. Oh decisions...

I would suggest going with the car you most feel comfortable with. They're both really nice and you can't go wrong either way. It all boils down to what it is you really want in the car......good luck!!!

  • 1 month later...

Extended warranty on the 02 will cost you 2.5K and the extra options are worth the difference in the MYs. So they seem to be even logically. Sounds like a gut choice.

I've not measured but Aero front lip in only marginally lower than stock from what I've seen.

I am not sure on your financial situation... to me having factory warranty left on the car is a great ++ and peace of mind...

But this will be your baby, and you should buy the car that moves your senses the most... :drive:

Get a good shop to perform a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI), try to find the service history on both cars (a visit to the dealer with the VIN can help get you the history (they will strip out the name of the owners for privacy act reason but all you need is to know the work that has been done). The two cars have such low mileage that I doubt there is something seriously wrong with either one but best to check the service history anyway... also get them to read the codes and look for errors, over-revs type 1 and 2 codes, etc...

I am bias towards CF and black cars... so the first car sounds great and it is local, which makes it easier to look at and go over it..

Let us know what you decide on and be sure to post photos!! Cheers!
