Cell Phone Connector

While browsing RennTech, I ran across the Cell Phone Connector in this thread:

Using a volt/ohm meter, I determined the pin-out to be:

Brown Wire - Ground

Next Wire - Switched +4V ???

Next Wire - Switched +12V

Next Wire - 12V

Is this pin-out correct?

I then played a round of stump the parts guy at my Porsche dealership. I took the car to the dealer, showed him the connector, and asked him if I could buy the mating connector plus pins. He couldn't find the part in his system.

Does anyone know if Porsche sells such a part? If not, how are people tapping into this connector?

Loren has posted the electrical info.

In the olden days you had to buy the connector from Bird - the cupholder place.

Becker sells it. It has a diagram. I think you have to buy the cell phone and aux in and keys as a set, but check with Becker. It is the one on the left.

Brown = Ground

Red / Green = Switched 12 volts

Green / Black = Unswitched 12 volts

Yellow / Black = Telephone Mute

Some early Boxster's had only 3 wires I believe.

Perhaps Jeff has the connector info?

Only the 1997 Boxster had 3 wires. All other years including the 996 4 wires.

Standard in the US but an option in the UK - believe it or not.

I installed a SonyEriccson Bluetooth module in my 04 Turbo Cab. It works with the same four wires and hides in the dash. HCB-30

Here is a picture of everything pulled apart and the Bluetooth module hanging to the left of the shifter.

I put the control on the "Bat Wing" piece just in front of the shifter.

I had to use the Techart speaker base because I have a car with the MOST bus. If you have a 02 or before you could actually send the sound from the Bluetooth module through the right side of the sound system.

Does the HCB-30 come with decent wiring diagrams for the installation? Also how about the microphone? Where did you manage to install that? I am looking for a new phone and was interested in the setup you have.

I mounted the microphone just behind the steering wheel. It is real easy to run the mic wire back to the module in the center consol. The wiring is simple. You have one that wired to ground, one to switched 12 volt, one to 12 volt, and one that mutes the radio. Then there is a speaker wire and mic wire, so it is pretty simple.

The PCM II module or any of the Porsche radios will mute when you get a phone call.
