1998 Porsche Boxster Covertible Top Problems

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've read several threads that offer information on "how to" fix the problem I'm having with my top. It's stuck in the down position. The motor functions, but only the drivers side of the clam shell will open. I would imagine it's the passenger side cable that is broken or disconnected. Couple of questions:

Where's the best place to purchase replacement cables?

How do I get the top in the "manual mode"?

Does anyone have pictures of the process for placing the top in the manual mode, also replacing the cable on a 1998 Boxster.

Does this sound like a cable or trans.?

Thanks a lot,

Jeff

Once you dive in this is a lot easier to fix than you might think. I got all the parts I needed from Sunset Imports in Oregon, great service and prices.

Sounds like the passenger side cable has stripped. You will find all the part #s and pictures you need already in this forum.

I too have the same problem and the dealer has quoted me $800 to do the cable replacement. I found the cables on PelicanParts for $35 each, but I'm worried about timing the transmission correctly. I've searched and searched but still can't find any information on how to properly time the transmission. There was one article that mentioned using a level, but it didn't give the details. Any good articles on this?

Thanks!

My dealer wanted $2,000.00 to fix the same problem. Said that the cables where streched and the only replacement cables available would only work with the new transmission. I have since obtained the parts and installed them but found that the manual seems to leave something out relative to the setting and timing of the various rods. Did you ever find a good explaination on how to set up the top when new parts are installed? I would love to find out the right way to adjust the top. Thanks Jeff
