Thud From Rear/Engine

Recommended Posts

Here are my car specs:

2003 911 Carrera 2

Tiptronic S

20k miles

I recently have been hearing a thud from the rear of the car when accelerating hard. When I accelerate slowly there are no noises from the rear. The thud can be hear from a stop or low speed hard acceleration.

I took the car into the dealership and it has been there 5 days. The service manager said the sound came from worn transmission mounts, so they replaced them. However, now they say they can hear a softer clunk noise from the rear when accelerating. They have had my car 3 days since they fixed the intial issue. They are now putting on microphones around the car to identify the area of the noise. The service manager said he has not had to replace tranny mounts on at tip before. He says that everything is being covered under warranty, which makes me feel better, but I still dont have my car!

Anyone know what can be wrong with my car? Do you think I should take it to another dealer or give him a couple more days? Thanks for the help in advance.

The most likely causes (of these types of noises) are a loose rear swaybar or a broken engine mount.

I forgot to mention that they replaced the engine mounts too. I will mention the loose rear swaybar. Thanks for the help Loren!
