996 Dash Kit

Recommended Posts

I want to remove the Factory Becker Radio and install a double-din monitor in the Upper Dash.

I need to relocate the HVAC controls to the upper-position in the lower dash (currently occupied by the CD-holder-gizmo). Is there a wiring kit needed, or does the factory wiring reach? (i've seen other people mount it down there)

Does anyone have a list of all the optional (factory or 3rd party) dash components for the dash? I've seen a few posts when searching, but most of the parts seemed to be for the accessory pockets.

Thanks!

-Joe

What are you going to do with the CD holder gizmo? I have a cd player and a cassette holder gizmo.

I'll PM you when I finally yank it (it'll probably be in Late January/Early Feb after I have a door switch problem fixed under Warranty)

Did you have any luck with this?

When I tried to do it last night, I found that the HVAC control was too big for the top slot in the lower console (where the CD holder was).

Looking for a solution to this before I take my Dremel to the whole thing...

Thanks

Yea, it only fits in the lower slot in the lower console. It's a tight fit, but it goes in. Remove the batwing. To move it down you need the following (pricing from SunsetImports.com)

996 552 339 00 01C $3.55 (Trim Ring)

Optionally, I added this:

996 552 253 01 01C $25.48 (Cubby to mount in the upper slot of the lower console, above HVAC)

If you are going to install a double-din head unit, you might also want the main dash frame without the bar across the middle. Will Prevent Extra Dremel Work:

552 231 12 01C $30.07 (Main Dash Frame, double-Din opening)

To remove the frame above you have to remove the vents. I just yanked on mine and they popped out, but I realized this wasn't the way to do it. You can insert a screwdriver thru the vents to push on the tab (There is a good description in the PCM2 DYI)
