Battery problems. I should know this :(

Recommended Posts

This subject has probly been asked so many times but I **** forgot. A search didnt help. Maybe I am a dummy. Yup that's it ;)

So my battery is dead and all the doors, hood locked.

I know the emergency access pull cable is somewhere by the front wheel but cant see it.

Any help appreciated.....pictures maybe.

TIA

Berny

On Us cars it's just in front of the passenger's side front wheel well. I assume this is the driver's side in the UK. You need to pull the wheel liner back or down to find it. I have rerouted mine to be behind the plug in the bumper for the tow hook. Makes it much easier to get to in a case like this.

Scouser,

Mine was on accessible between the space of the headlight and the bumper cover, US version passenger side. With a flashlight, look for the shiny cable. Maybe be also by removing the side marker on the right side, shine a light and you may see it there too.

Thanks folks. I couldnt get access to the wheel because I have it garaged and there isnt much room to remove the wheel in there. I ended up doing the screw driver trick between the hood and engine release latches. It worked forst time and the battery is currently on the charger.

Thanks again

Thanks for bring up this topic, but I still can't find the cable to open my hood. I have a 1999 996 C2 Cabriolet. I pulled down the passenger side wheel cover and still can't find that cable. I even flipped open the side marker. Where exactly should I be looking? high side/low side? Toward the front? Is it a covered cable or is it a bare wire?

Help.....

My 99 C2 is a bare wire loop. Mine is underneath of the passenger side headlight toward the front bumper. Its also accessible on my aerokit by pushing the rubber portion of the radiator air guide up and squeezing a small hand up toward the light. I think the easiest thing to do though would be to use one of the charger things that plugs into the lighter socket, assuming you've got an electrical release and not a manual lever.

Good question Viper, is it a pull handle or button Scouser? My 99 has a pull handle, when I had the same problem I had to open and lock the car with the key on the door a couple of times, and it was back to normal. The 03 with the button is a different story. But the battery was "filled" again.

The cable I used is the shiny cable, flashlight and a wire hanger, between the passenger headligh and bumper cover. Should be in there somewhere.

The side markers hole, if you can see it, should be towards the front. Look like an aircraft wire with a loop on the end. The wire hanges made it easier for me to hook it and pull.

Remove the headlight and look for it so you will know where it is in case you ever need it. The thing is, it is not always exactly in the same place from the factory. Plus, if you have a used car, some people have done "hacks" and relocated the cable.

The first thing I did in 1999 when I bought my Boxster was to extend the loop end of the cable with a length of stranded picture hanging wire over to the side marker. Then we came up with the idea of relocating the cable to where the tow eye hook it. Both of these "hacks" make it easy to get to the cable.
