PSE cutout disabling?

Recommended Posts

I see there is an easy mod on here to disable the PSE cutout on the 996.

Is there anything similar for the 997?

996 had a mod for the relay, if you search old posts.

997 I am in the process of wiring a switch and 12 volt line directly to the solenoid for on/off control!

Thanks Larry.

I guess you will post results and instructions on here when complete?

You can just disconnect the orange plug in the engine compartment to have the PSE on permanently , or you can interrupt the 12 volt power going to the solenoid by installing a switch .

I installed a two pos.toggle switch in the ashtray .

Pos. 1 : PSE functions per factory

Pos. 2 : PSE is always on

I installed the switch in the ashtray as well. I am more than pleased. Most of the time I leave the switch in the "off" position which means that the PSE is on all the time even on start up and stays on no matter the speed. In the "on" position the PSE is back to the factory mode which is then controlled by the sport button on the dash, but cuts out even if you have it on between 30 and 50 mph. My PSE was put on after delivery of my car so the wires to the solenoid were easy to find behind the back seat (there was a good post on how to do this previously). There are a huge number of wires in this area and if the dealer had not found the wires to install the PSE I'm not sure I would have been able to pick them out of the harnesses. I think I can post pics of my switch if you want, I replaced the round cig. snuff-out thing at the front of the ashtray with the switch and it looks factory to me, and disappears if you close the ashtray door.

If you want to duplicate this make sure you get a fairly flat switch so it does not interfere with closing of the door. The cig snuff out thing is just a metal plate and it pops out if you lift it straight up. The switch I got was a bit bulky in the back so I cut off some of the excess on the sides behind the front face plate so it would sit down in the area and clear the cover. I was able to cover the exposed end with black vinyl wall edging I had left over from refinishing vinyl flooring at the office(this stuff is as easy to cut to shape as paper).

Hi Larry, Sorry I could not respond to your pm earlier but I was away and then I realized I did not know how. Hope you are happy with the mod. Looks like you did a nice job. I am interested in your ipod set up but I need to get my pcm updated to 2.1 b first, and then I'd like to get sat radio and ipod. Thanks for your pics.
