MAF - different question

Recommended Posts

I know MAF problems were covered thousands times, but my question is about cleaning it. When cleaning sensor, we are not supposed to touch anything. Just spray fluid on it and dry it. Pretty simple.

Hmmm!!!!!

DID ANYBODY TOUCH ANYTHING ON THE SENSOR?

Can we clean it gently for example with q-tip?

Are we going to damage sensor permanently?

Thank you for respone.

Don't touch and use CRC Electrical Contact Cleaner and let dry and repeat two more times. No Q-tips because some of the cotton may lodge itself and get stuck and you may also risk breaking it (not the q-tip)

Why are you cleaning it? :o

Funny you should ask. Based on the recent P1123, I decided to clean the MAF last night. All the posting says not to touch it , and just spray & airblow.

Well, I did touch the sensor using the modified Q tip. Before I did this, I read enough about how the sensor worked and could not think why using QTip will damage it.

We clean various sensors this way including super sensitive CMOS, CCD sensors used in DSLR.

Well, I could be wrong but I will find out today when I drive. No, I haven't driven the car yet :)

My contact cleaner has a fine brush tip on it. After the spray/air dry my MAF was still visibly dirty under strong sunlight. I figured "what the heck" and brush cleaned it. Now visibly much cleaner. I went about 8 months running great and no CEL. About 3wks ago my little friend CEL came on again 1123, 1125 codes. I cleaned it again and the CEL came back after 50 miles. I figure now at 68,000 mi it's time for a new one... ordered yesterday along with a fresh air filter.

So basically you can't ruin your sensor by touching it.

I've already clean it once using crc spray but there was still dirt visible. It was a little bit better but no huge difference.

I've got 78K miles on my Boxi and I think I have to buy new sensor soon.

Before that I will clean it gently with q-tip, crc spray and see what's gonna happend.

Thanks

P.S. No codes, I just feel it's going bad.
