Bit of a techie question about brake wear sensors (Cayenne S).

I had a look at the sensors and it is connected with two wires. Does this mean it is a loop and the loop is broken by the wearing pad? If this is how they work I assume that they need replacing when the brake pad warning light comes on.

Most brake wear sensors I have seen are single wire and detect by shorting to the rotor/disc. This means that if you don't want them it is possoble to tie them out of the way and no warning will show. I presume that tieing back an 'activated' Cayenne sensor will continue to show a brake pad fault.

Last query. Is it possible to know which sensor has activated the warning light, without dismantling the brakes.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or knowledge

Mike

Yup, you are correct these guys are a loop. You can bypass a triggered one by cutting the sensor wires and twisting them together. I don't know of any way of determining which one is at fault without at least looking at the pads and seeing which one is worn the most. If you can't tell from that I'd just start on the fronts and check them first.
