2004 C4s noise and oil drop

Recommended Posts

Big trouble I believe. Got off the interstate, drove 1/2 mile and while stopped at a light heard this horrible grinding noise (sounded like something metal was caught in the fan belt. Slowly pulled off out of the intersection ( still grinding) and turned the car off. Then the car dumped its oil on the ground. No leaking while I pulled out of the intersection. Oil seemed to be coming from front of engine based on my examination as it was being pulled on to the truck.

Sound like a rod? I have never heard of this a a problem with the 996s. The car only has 14000 miles and the oil was changed 2000 miiles ago.

Any thoughts?

shaft parallel to and driven by the crank. Sprockets on both ends that drive dohcs on r&l cylinder banks. They fail as the bearings are too small and the shafts under built. This has been corrected on later M96 motors and reman replacements for early cars.

I thought the intermediate shaft problem was corrected before '04.

Sounds like you're getting a new engine courtesy of Porsche. Sorry to hear that too because that probably will destroy your confidence in Porsche regardless of a new engine. Maybe this would be an opportunity to haggle for a new 997 C4S because it's in your ballpark. <_<
