Question re: front strut disassembly - removing mount

I attempted to replace a failed strut tower bearing today. I removed the strut, compressed the spring, removed the fastening nut, and removed the stop plate. However, I could not, for the life of me, remove the mount.

I was expecting that it would just slide right off. Is there some sort of trick to this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Probably rust between the shock absorber rod and the top mount. Try soften with penetrating oil or similar product.

Agreed - it should slide right off. Though I didn't bother compressing the spring. There isn't much (if any) preload on them once the assembly is removed. Maybe that slight preload helped push mine off. :)

John V & RFM - Thanks for the input.

I actually went so far as to back off the fastening nut (dampner shaft) and remove the spring compressor - the mount didn't budge. I also tried improvising with a gear puller, but with no luck.

I tried penetrating oil per RFM's suggestion, but with no luck. Any other suggestions, or is it time to get destructive?

You can try to head the connection between the rod and the top mount to save the spring, all the rest shock absorber and COMPLETE top mount need to be replaced in this case. Bad luck.
