Time for PCM1 8bit to PCM1 16bit upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My old PCM1 8bit is not working as it should and therefor I plan to switch it to a PCM1 16bit...

I am keeping a eye on e-bay, but havent found anything in Europe yet.

Do any of you know of place to get this - Design911 and Jasmine Porsche havent got it the part.

In denmark I can get the part for 17.500 with CD's but I hope someone knows a cheaper solution used or new :)

Thanks in advance !

If I were you I would forget PCM1 and buy a far superior aftermarket system, such as the Pioneer AVIC. Much more up-to-date, and far more versatile than PCM. Looks good too:

Yes, I have looked into this but I cannot make my own faceplate to make the Pioneer fit and besides the picture you just showed me I havnt seen any DIY installations I liked. However I have the same interor as you and I think what you have done is very impressive.

Can you help me with instructions to where to buy this ?

How about fuel economy, phone and aircon-settings ?

Kind regards

Morten

I had it installed for me, as it was free fitting: http://www.audio66.co.uk . It won't show fuel economy, but it has Bluetooth Phone, iPod connectivity, Hard Disk Drive Music Library, Voice Command, DVD Player, etc. It also has provision for reversing camera if you want that. I bought a speed camera database from TeleAtlas, as we are plagued with those things over here.

I moved the aircon panel to the lower position myself, but presumably yours is there already. It should fit into the same slot as PCM1 as it is 2-DIN standard size. Mine just has the standard Pioneer trim around the unit, and I had to make small trim piece for the top. (I had a standard 1-DIN radioo before).

I must say it looks nice - but the faceplate and non-original look is still a bit of a issue for me, I have to concider it !

If anyone knows a PCM1-16bit shop with a pretty fair price please let me know :)

Have you tried Porsche-Apart? There is also a couple of guys on Ebay that break Boxsters and the like. Plus Douglas Valley breakers etc. (but I've heard variable things about them). Whatever your source make sure you can send it back if it doesn't work in your car and isn't "sold as seen".
