Will this part fit ?

Hi' Forum

I have been searching for a replacement for my 8Bit Navigation-cd reader for my PCM-1 so I can

use 2006 / 2007 cd's from Navtech - the old 8bit 2001 discs are pretty useless in my opinion.

I have found this unit for sale: 996.642.122.12 EWD (what does ewd stand for ?) from a 2002 porsche.

As far as I know this unit-serial is a 16Bit unit, can someone confirm this ?

- I have read that all units with serial 996.642.122.03 or more (04,05,06,07 +) are 16bit.

Will this work with my PCM1 unit in my car if I just replace the navigation-1DIN cd reader or do I need special 'porsche dealer' software ?

My Boxster is a 98' 2.5

Thank you Loren, that was exactly what I was looking for.

I hope the .12 EWD part fits my car, the company says the 'think' it does and offer me 30 days refund.

Thank you for the tip with the wires, I will be carefull .

Any tips on what EWD stand for ?

and any advice on the software upgrade to version 5.43 mentioned in Lorens link ? How do I upgrade it ?
