Setting Seat Memory

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble having my seat memory work with my key. I have a 2004 C4S. According to the manual, if I put the key in the ingnition...turn the car on....and then set the seat, mirrors and the tilt down reverse opiton, it should recognize this when I open the door with the remote. It doesn't work. When I press the key button to open the door, the seat moves back to the max, then I have to press my memory button to get the position I want. What am I doing wrong?

Peter,

As i read your note, I sense you have tried the procedure with the engine running rather tha njust turning the ignition to on without starting engine. In addition, you need to shift the transmission into reverse ( for the passenger mirror tilt option to be activated). In addition, hold the lock key on the dash at the same time you press your seat memory button for a believe is 5 seconds. that is how I programmed my 02 C4S.

Good luck!! demosan

PeterC4, that seems to be a very common issue with the remote keys, especially new ones.

You can do whatever you want, follow the manual word for word, it will not work.

Some dealers, apparently do not know how to program the new keys to work with the memory control unit under the seat.

I had the same problem, old key works fine, new key sends the seat all the way back, all the way down.

The dealer cannot program my new key remote right, and told me the whole memory control module needs to be replaced for $1000 with NO guarantee it will fix the issue. WTF???

Since then, I have read of several similar issues on the various sites.

My indy says he has done a few with similar complaints, and he can fix that, I just haven't done it yet.

Read my lips, There are some dealers that just DO NOT KNOW how to program the keys correctly!

From the Service Manual Instructions:

"Note!

The adjustment function of the seat, mirror and lumbar positions via the hand-held transmitter is correct only if the radio code and the transponder code of a hand-held transmitter are each stored at the same position in the alarm system control module."

There are 15 steps in "teaching" a new key and matching the old keys.

Hmmm, I didn't think my 2004 C4S had a radio code. Anyway, I don't know if I have an old or new key but it looks like a real key. So are you saying I have to "teach" my key (assuming its a replacement of sorts) to match the old key? I'll try my other key to see how it works.

Loren: What are the ...15 steps..." ? I too cannot get my '02 996 Cab key to program so that it is tied to the seat. Have gone through (over and over and over) the steps, including clearing the memory, to no avail... I am able to get the key symbol memory button to work when it is pressed but cannot get it paired to the key remote itself. I only have one key so no other to attempt...
